3 | Page PRESIDENT State Party and Meeting were cancelled due to weather but we had the Board meeting via Zoom and FWD Consulting will be continuing as our lobbyist this coming year again, Tallahassee will still be a Sunday meeting and Monday Ride and we vote to push Hands Free driving, as soon as elections are over the hard work begins... Be ready to ride with us to the Capitol during Committee weeks to get our voices heard early as well as in April. Biketoberfest has come and gone, the News Journal reports that a 6 year low on trauma cases during the event. It could be less people are attending or we are making a difference (I'd like to think the latter). I had to work most of the event and didnt get out all that much and when I did I stayed pretty low key and avoided the crowded places like the plague. We set up at Tropical Tattoo Chopper Time and met a lot of great people, a huge THANK YOU to all that came out and helped. During Chopper Time we were asked if we could put some bikes together to escort our current Congressman (and next Governor) Byron Donalds from a Beaver Bar event to the airport, we had quite a few bikes and trikes (and police in front and behind us) escort him and we have plenty of pics up online and in the news. Also in attendance were our own Ormond Beach Mayor Jason Leslie, Congressman Randy Fine, Senator Ashley Moody and State Committeewoman Erika Benfield... If you missed it, sorry cause you would have had a great time. We even put a Daytona Beach ABATE Chapter Patch on our next Governors vest given to him by Chris Cox from Bikers for Trump.. We are working on a great guest speaker, keep your eyes out for the flyer, coming soon. Also we need to start planning our Ride to Daytona Health & Rehab after our Dec meeting!!! Come on out to our next meeting Nov 1st, 2026 @10:00 am at the Eagles Post #3800 located at 190 South Nova Rd Ormond Beach FL- come early for breakfast, stay after for a ride Till next month, STAY SAFE and ride free!!!! Thank you, Alfy ABATE of FL, Inc. State VP & Daytona Beach Chapter Pres VICE PRESIDENT Well, Biketoberfest is done and seems like it went by really fast Willie’s show was pretty quiet and the setup at the track seemed to be less than half of what Biketoberfest week was that said the numbers of surveys that were conducted was impressive thanks to all who participated. As November comes around, please remember to bring a toy for Elaines Local Angels charity or a cash donation that will be put towards purchasing a pallet of toys or both if you’re feeling generous. December is coming up quickly as well and we will be having our annual gift run to the Daytona health and rehabilitation center so please make sure you can make the December meeting. See you on the road and be safe Snowbird season is here! Mark

Here is something from Scribe Report BR-002 when safety becomes the sales pitch, worth repeating. Once the bill gets SCHEDULED to be heard in committee, a staff report is issued. Not all of them will cover these topics. PROVE IT.  Show us the data.  Show us the crash mechanism you're trying to change.  Show us the research.  Show us how enforcement will work.  Show us who will be affected.  Show us what it costs.  Show us whether existing law already addresses the problem.  Show us how success will be measured.  And show us whether there is another way to accomplish the same safety objective without creating an unnecessary burden on people who never causing the problem in the first place. If the proposal survives those questions? Then maybe you've got a good bill. If it doesn't? Maybe you just prevented a bad idea from becoming permanent law. Either outcome serves the public. I should have posted this last month: Volusia County at large - Nancy Miller Endorsed by former Sherriff Vogel and Mike Poniatowski District 1 - Wendy Andersom; Don Dempsey

7 | Page SAFETY Another Biketoberfest has come and gone. For the most part the weather held up nice for the event. I have yet to see any safety numbers from the event, but when I do, I will share. We are now full steam into fall; the temperature seems to be dropping some making for more comfortable rides. With that in mind you should check your tire pressure as it will have changed too. While you’re at it check over the rest of the bike. Brakes, lights, turn signals and the condition of your tires. Make sure you’re good to go for the fall and into the winter. The safety tent on the track drew some good crowds and many people participated in the safety survey. I would like to thank all of you that came to help. Be careful of the ghosts and gobblins soon to be moving about, watch out in the neighborhoods. Kids and adults at play. Enjoy the ride, be careful, be safe.

Waymo is in many states including Florida. Our state legislature has done little about this issue. A new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) underscores a problem motorcyclists know all too well, distracted driving remains a serious threat on America’s roads, and riders often pay the price. The IIHS study found that cellphone use before crashes is significantly underreported in police reports. Using data from nearly 17,000 crashes, researchers found drivers were using their cellphones within 30 seconds of impact in 7% of single-vehicle crashes and 8% of two-vehicle crashes. Police report recorded cellphone use in less than 1% of those crashes. The problem goes well beyond texting or making a phone call. Drivers were frequently tapping, swiping and otherwise manipulating their phones before crashes. IIHS also notes that looking away from the road for just two seconds doubles the risk of a crash or near-crash event. For motorcyclists, distracted driving can have devastating consequences. A driver who looks down at a phone, changes an app or simply fails to pay attention may never see a motorcycle until it is too late. “Distracted driving isn’t just a problem for the person behind the wheel. it is a threat to everyone sharing the road, especially motorcyclists,” said the Motorcycle Riders Foundation President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard. “This study reinforces what riders have been saying for years: drivers need to put the phone down, keep their eyes on the road and focus on driving.”

SAFETY: MSAP- School is now in session, with that in mind there are lots of kids running around, big yellow buses on the streets and plenty of distracted parents driving their kids to school. Be especially careful around schools, pay attention to the speed limits in school zones, watch out for kids darting out from between parked cars. Be careful around the school buses don’t hang out in their blind spots. This is also the time to start gearing up for snowbird season. The northern migration south will start to trickle in with it being full on in a few weeks. With this migration comes increased traffic, more folks on four wheels not paying attention and new bikers feeling their oats. Both sets will be executing erratic behaviors on the road. Keep your eyes peeled, heads on a swivel and be aware of what’s going on around you. Biketoberfest is right around the corner with that brings another influx of folks out to have a good time and not necessarily always paying attention. The hazards will be increasing over the next couple of months, and it’ll be a while until they settle down. Pay attention, be aware, be careful, be safe and enjoy the ride. 14.
