01 S T I T C H I N G T H E D I V I D E An Inclusive Transit-Hub at Khilkhet MRT Station “Stitching the Divide” reimagines Dhaka’s Khilkhet MRT Station as a crucial civic anchor bridging a severely fragmented urban land- scape. To address the dense, unregulated building fabric and narrow streets of the adjacent Khilkhet neighborhood, the project leverages new Detailed Area Plan (DAP) regulations for block development within TOD zones, proposing a comprehensive spatial restructuring. To optimize pedestrian flow, the design purposefully decentraliz- es the station’s entry and exit points. Primary access nodes are situated directly above the station to provide immediate, at-grade multi- modal exchange, while remote entryways connect to key destination points via underground travelators and walkable tunnels. By linking these networks and activating neglected under-expressway spaces for informal street vendors, this thesis demonstrates how inclusive transit infrastructure can successfully catalyze equitable urban regeneration.

These illustrations contextualize Khilkhet Station within Dhaka’s expanding transit network. Situat- ed on the underground MRT Line 1, the station serves as a strategic urban node. The localized map details its immediate positioning between the adjacent stops at Terminal 3 and Norda. Together, the visual data highlights Khilk- het’s complex convergence with the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and existing elevated expressway infrastructure.

Nikunja (top) is characterized by a formally planned, gridiron layout. Conversely, Khilkhet (bottom) consists of a dense, organically developed urban fabric filled with unregulated buildings and narrow roads unprepared for high density. To resolve Khilkhet’s fragmented layout, the proposed design applies new DAP regulations for block development within TOD zones. This spatial restructuring replaces the organic sprawl with organically organized blocks, designed to safely manage high pedestrian volumes, increase FAR ratio, improve ground- water sockability and seamlessly integrate the neighborhood with the new transit core.

[de]constructed This project presents an abstract, deconstructed model of the Tejgaon Industrial Zone. As show- cased in the model, the composition fragments the area into its primary spatial and material characteristics. By utilizing raw industrial elements such as corrugated metal, exposed brick, stark concrete pillars, and bold red steel framing, the model captures the rugged, utilitarian essence of the zone. Rather than a literal representation, it distills Tejgaon’s complex industrial landscape into a striking, conceptual physical portrait. Year : 2020 Studio : ARC 112 Foundation Design Studio II

“Probhat Kunjo” is a G+10 semi-luxury residential complex situated on a generous 48-katha plot. Comprising 36 expansive apartments ranging from 2,500 to 3,200 sq ft, the 14,204 sqm development masterfully utilizes site orientation to maximize natural ventilation and capture soft morning light. To mitigate harsh sunlight, prominent vertical louvres are integrated into the facade. Lush landscaped grounds, green balconies, and a rooftop pool complete this thoughtfully craft- ed design. TESSELLATION This structural exploration models a dynamic, pavilion-like canopy utilizing a delicate assembly of toothpicks. The undulating form, as showcased in the model, was achieved by constructing geometric pyramids of varying heights and projecting them onto an abstractly shaped steel mesh template. Once the intersecting nodes were glued to form a rigid, self-sup- porting space frame, the underlying mesh was removed. The resulting structure relies entirely on its geometric tessellation, creating a fluid topography that casts intricate, grid-like shadows. Year : 2019 Studio : ARC 112 Foundation Design Studio I

Evolving from a rigid corner block into an open civic gesture, “Mrinmoy” features sweeping brick facades and stepped green terraces that blend indoor and outdoor learning. By lifting the primary mass, the ground floor becomes a fluid public plaza encouraging community engagement. Inside, exposed brick and ver- tical louvres elegantly filter natural sunlight, creating warm, climate-responsive spaces for study and collaboration. C-FRAME TABLE The C-Frame Coffee Table explores material contrast and structural balance through bold, geometric forms. A continuous, open-grain solid ash wood plank intersects two matte- finished, cast concrete rectangle shaped bases. This junction of warm, organic wood and cool, heavy concrete creates a striking visual tension. Enhancing its utility, the table- top features an integrated ceramic tray and planter, seamlessly blending brutalist-inspired industrial aesthetics with elements of natural life. ZEPHYR TOWER Located in the bustling heart of Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar, this 40-storey mixed-use tower translates the kinetic energy of its surrounding urban traffic into a dynamic architectural form. Rising beside a major circular intersection, the building’s twisting morphology is both a contextual narrative and a high-performance environmental response. The rotating floor plates effectively mitigate harsh solar radiation through self-shading while aerodynamically disrupting lateral wind loads, merging structural ingenuity with civic presence.
