YOU ARE NEEDED and… Your presence is essential. You ARE NEEDED. Your passion, your heart, your mind, your creativity, your compassion, and your empathy. So, don't sit on the sidelines, questioning your place. You belong here. You are strong. You are here on purpose, for a purpose. So, do your best. Lean into wisdom. Take with you wise counsel. And, take action whenever and however you can. That’s all that is required of you. Then, trust the Goodness of Life to bring the victory. There’s a change coming, and, even in the messy, Your presence matters. -unknown 4

A MINI PREVIEW OF MASTERMENTAL MasterMental is an inward experience built around self-awareness and conscious accountability. This work asks you to be honest, open, receptive, accountable, patient, and willing to stay the course. You will examine your perceptions, emotions, feelings, thoughts, core beliefs, attitudes, relationships, response-ability, and the ways you show up in your own life. If an exercise or discussion brings up strong emotion, write your thoughts in your journal. Do not judge yourself or your feelings. Notice them. Let the work show you what is asking for your attention. What do I expect to gain from this experience? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ What will staying the course require from me? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ Everything you need is already inside of you. 5

HOW TO USE THIS EXPERIENCE MasterMental is built on nine principles. Each one builds on the work before it. Take your time. Keep pace with the group. Engage in the exercises. Journal daily. Practice gratitude. Use affirmations. Be patient with yourself. Remain open to new ways of thinking. Stay the course. Do the work. Practice makes permanent, so be mindful of what you practice. The first three principles focus on who you are and how you perceive yourself. The next three focus on how you think, believe, and feel. The final three focus on showing up in the world as the best version of yourself. …The more you know, the more you grow. Go meet the best version of YOURSELF! “Don’t let your circumstances define you.”— Angelle Smith 7

OVERVIEW MasterMental is an awareness-development, conscious-accountability, and life-skills experience based on cognitive behavior modification and fundamental principles or laws. A principle is a basic truth, belief, rule, or idea that guides you and can serve as a foundation for behavior. Self-awareness and accountability help us notice how principles, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, language, and practice shape behavior. Belief and principles are interconnected, and with practice they can generate rules that influence behavior. THE NINE PRINCIPLES 1. THE LAW OF POTENTIAL 2. THE LAW OF INWARD CORRESPONDENCE 3. THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT 4. THE LAW OF ATTRACTION 5. THE LAW OF PERPETUAL TRANSMUTATION OF ENERGY 6. THE LAW OF ACTION / INTENTION 7. THE LAW OF CIRCULATION / COMPENSATION 8. THE LAW OF ONE 9. THE POWER OF YOUR PRESENCE You are who you are, regardless of who you think you are. Your thoughts affect your actions, and your perception affects your experience of everything around you. Your thoughts control your experience of reality. But your thoughts cannot affect, change, control, or even touch who you are. You have a power that has nothing to do with what you do, what you say, who you know, what you know, where you are, what you look like, your skills, talents, or even what you have. It is the power of you. — Paul Williams After getting acquainted with myself, what do I understand about the power of my presence? 16

IDENTITY Identity is the process of defining a person or thing. The attributes, features, and characteristics that make you who you are are referred to as your identity. Identity includes the memories, encounters, connections, ideals, traits, and experiences that shape your sense of self. How you see yourself and how other people see or categorize you may not always be the same. “ It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves. To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself. Too many people overvalue what they are not in undervalue what they are. “ -Sir Edmund Hillary IDENTITY QUESTIONS 1. SELF WORTH Self-worth is your perception of your own value and worthiness as a human being. INHERENT WORTH — achieved through personhood. EXPRESSED WORTH — often assumed through upbringing and validation. ACHIEVED WORTH — directly related to our actions and can be roughly measured by our efforts. Where have I most often located or measured my own worth? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ What changes when I consider worth as inherent? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ What is the difference between inherent, expressed, and achieved worth? REFLECT AND ASSESS GRATITUDE Thankfulness is an emotion. Being and feeling consciously grateful is the ultimate goal of practicing gratitude. Approach today with gratitude, understanding, openness; knowing that it offers potential and possibilities; knowing that every moment is an opportunity to reflect, reset, and move forward with intention. THE INTENTIONALITY FORMULA 1. Intentionally think, say, and write the words, “I am grateful for…” 2. The more you intentionally think or write what you have to be grateful for and why, the more you will feel it. 3. The more gratitude you intentionally think and feel, the more you receive to be grateful for. 21

LAW OF INWARD CORRESPONDENCE

THE LAW OF INWARD CORRESPONDENCE PRINCIPLE: PERSPECTIVE THE SEVEN SUBTOPICS 1. An Inside Job 2. Self-Esteem 3. Self-Talk 4. Obedience 5. Self-Care 6. Meditation 7. Self-Confidence THE LAW OF INWARD CORRESPONDENCE The Law of Correspondence relates to the unique relationship and dialogue we have with ourselves. As within, so without. As above, so below. This law asks us to acknowledge and look at an issue until the lesson is learned and fully understood. Awareness of this law creates an opportunity for real inward change. What in my life may be asking me to look inward? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ REFLECT and ASSESS “WHAT YOU SAY… IS WHAT YOU GET” 26

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” — Lao Tzu 27

OBEDIENCE Aligning one's actions, trust, and life with foundational teachings. In MasterMental, obedience is inward. It is the willingness to listen to, trust, and follow through on what you consciously know supports your growth. It is not surrendering your judgment to another person. It is learning to hear and respond to the wisdom within. The relationship I have with myself influences the way I experience and respond to my world. What am I noticing about the way I speak to, regard, and respond to myself? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ What do I already know I need to practice or follow through on? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ JOURNAL What gets in the way of my following through? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ What would obedience to what I know look like in practice? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ What is the difference between obedience to another person and conscious obedience to what you know within? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ SELF-ESTEEM Self-esteem is confidence in your own worth or abilities; in other words, having self-respect. 28

FIVE COMPONENTS OF SELF-ESTEEM ● SECURITY — I know I am safe. ● IDENTITY — I know who I am. ● BELONGING — I know others accept me. ● PURPOSE — I know what I want to achieve. ● COMPETENCE — I know I am capable. Which component of self-esteem most needs my attention? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ What could strengthening that area look like for me? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ SELF-CONFIDENCE Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means accepting and trusting yourself and having a sense of control in your life. SELF-ESTEEM SELF-CONFIDENCE • General impression of yourself • Situation specific • A form of self-love • The amount you trust yourself • You can have high self-confidence but low self-esteem • Often easier to develop WAYS TO BOOST SELF-ESTEEM WAYS TO BOOST SELF-CONFIDENCE • “I can” affirmations • Meditation exercises • Taking risks • Doing something to make yourself feel better • Trying something new • Questioning self-doubt Where do I already feel confident? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 29

Where would I like to build greater confidence? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ What is the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ OPEN — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY SELF-TALK Self-talk is the way you talk to yourself—your inner voice. Your inner voice combines conscious thoughts with beliefs and biases to create an internal monologue throughout the day. Do you hear the words that are coming out of YOUR mouth? THE SELF-TALK CYCLE HOW TO REWIRE YOUR BRAIN SELF-TALK → SELF-IMAGE / SELF-ESTEEM → PERFORMANCE → CONFIRMS SELF-TALK 1. Our self-talk builds a picture of ourselves in our minds. 2. Our self-esteem causes us to live out this image. 3. Our performance causes us to confirm our self-talk. 4. The cycle repeats. The cycle can be used to embrace a better truth by beginning with self-talk. 30

THREE STEPS 1. THIS IS NOT LIKE ME… When you catch yourself in negative self-talk, stop it. You can also say: “Up until now I have been… but no longer…” My statement: ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 2. THIS IS LIKE ME… Describe the better truth about yourself. My statement: ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 3. NEXT TIME I INTEND TO… Tell yourself what behavior you intend to practice when a similar experience happens. My statement: ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 5 STAGES OF SELF-TALK 1. Negative acceptance 2. Admitting the need for change 3. Deciding to change 4. Being a better you 5. Universal affirmation THE 3 C’S CATCHING CHECKING CHANGING PRACTICE • Catch yourself when you fall into negative self-talk traps. • Check that you do not say anything to yourself that you would not say to someone else. • Make self-care a priority. • Reduce your exposure to negativity. • Practice gratitude. 31

• Change your vocabulary and what needs to change in order to change your thinking. • Take a time out. Breathe. • Practice positive affirmations. What is one way more intentional self-talk could support my well-being? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ SELF-CARE Cultivating inner strength is an important part of self-care. Inner strength supports resilience, self-belief, self-compassion, and personal growth. Self-care is the act of engaging in activities to gain or maintain an optimal level of overall health. EIGHT AREAS OF SELF-CARE ● PHYSICAL ● PSYCHOLOGICAL ● EMOTIONAL ● SOCIAL ● PROFESSIONAL ● SPIRITUAL ● FINANCIAL ● ENVIRONMENTAL 32

EXCELLENCE IS WITHIN SELF-CARE CHECKLIST PHYSICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL ☐ Healthy eating ☐ Practice a hobby ☐ Personal hygiene ☐ Learn something new ☐ Exercise ☐ Read EMOTIONAL SOCIAL ☐ Express feelings ☐ Meet new people ☐ Laugh ☐ Be polite ☐ Respect yourself ☐ Meaningful dialogue PROFESSIONAL SPIRITUAL ☐ Stay in the loop ☐ Meditate ☐ Work on your skills ☐ Pray ☐ Read relevant literature ☐ Reflect on what brings joy FINANCIAL ENVIRONMENTAL ☐ Make a budget ☐ Drink water ☐ Learn to say no when it comes to spending ☐ Clean your room or living space ☐ Find the least expensive way to get things done ☐ Purify the air when possible One self-care practice I already use:_________________________________________________________________________ One area I have neglected: ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ One realistic practice I will add within my present environment: ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ How does self-care extend beyond physical care? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ OPEN — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY 33

MEDITATION Meditation is a mind and body practice focused on interactions between the brain, mind, body, and behavior. FOUR KEY ELEMENTS 1. A quiet location with few distractions 2. A comfortable posture 3. A focus of attention 4. An open attitude Meditation in MasterMental is a practice of becoming still enough to notice what is happening within without immediately reacting to it. PAUSE Take a brief period of quiet stillness. Become aware of your breath, your body, and what you notice within. LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT

THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT PRINCIPLES: KARMA • ACCOUNTABILITY THE SEVEN SUBTOPICS 1. Personal Accountability 2. Self-Respect 3. Discipline 4. Self-Control 5. Self-Esteem 6. Honesty 7. Integrity / Response-Ability THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT The Law of Cause and Effect asks us to understand that actions have reactions and consequences. Our actions, words, thoughts, desires, choices, and responses create causes that affect our experience. The good news is that we have the power to change our experience by becoming more conscious of the causes we create from this point forward. Where can I become more conscious of the experiences I am creating? What is the relationship between cause, choice, and consequence? OPEN — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY Personal accountability means taking ownership of what happens as a result of your choices and actions. THE FOUR STEPS SEE IT - and feel what it reveals OWN IT - and face it honestly SOLVE IT-and fix what is within your control DO IT- and free yourself through conscious action SEE IT. OWN IT. SOLVE IT. DO IT Feel it. Face it. Fix it. Free it. 36

8 HABITS TO BUILD MORE PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY ● Make a commitment ● Gain clarity ● Be realistic ● Create SMART goals ● Eliminate blame ● Practice holding yourself accountable ● Feedback, feedback, feedback ● Get an accountability partner One area in which I can practice greater accountability: REFLECT — PRIVATE HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE What can I do today? What can I do within the next year? Who can help me keep track of this goal? What is my backup plan? How will I celebrate reaching this goal? OPEN — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY What changes when a person moves from seeing a problem to owning and solving it? 37

SELF-RESPECT / SELF-ESTEEM Self-respect and esteem are part of the Law of Cause and Effect because the choices we repeatedly make can affect the relationship we have with ourselves. REFLECT — PRIVATE What choices help me respect myself? What action could I take that would strengthen the way I regard myself? DISCIPLINE Discipline is often confused with punishment, rules, enforcement, or simply doing what someone else tells you to do. The root of discipline points instead to study, learning, instruction, and training. DISCIPLINE = STUDY • LEARN • TRAIN • APPLY Discipline is not something others do to you. It is something you do for yourself. Discipline is a choice—your choice. MORE DISCIPLINE → MORE CHOICE → MORE CONTROL LESS DISCIPLINE → LESS CHOICE → LESS CONTROL Where in my life would greater personal discipline give me greater choice? What standard do I want to practice consistently? OPEN — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY How does understanding discipline as an internal choice change its meaning SELF-CONTROL — CLEARING THE MIND When the mind is crowded, one way to regain clarity is to separate what requires attention from what can wait and what can be released. 38

1. Write everything that is on your mind—concerns, regrets, fears, dreams, ideas, and anything else that is taking up mental space. Brain Dump! 2. Sort what you wrote into three categories: ACTIVE CONCERN What requires action now? MAYBE LATER What can wait? DELETE What am I willing to release? 3. Make a plan for each active concern. My next action: 4. Move forward with clarity and confidence. REFLECT — PRIVATE What became clearer when I sorted what was on my mind? RESPONSE-ABILITY Responsibility is being able to respond and be accountable for yourself, your actions, and your things. THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION PRINCIPLES: BELIEFS • THOUGHTS THE SEVEN SUBTOPICS 1. Core Beliefs 2. Attitudes 3. Emotional Intelligence 4. Feelings / Thoughts 5. Emotional Management 6. Choices 7. Coping / Conscious Control THE LAW OF ATTRACTION The Law of Attraction directly relates to our ability to create or manifest events, people, and things. All of our thoughts, words, feelings, and energies attract like energies. Simply: Positive energy attracts positive energy. Negative energy attracts negative energy. What we focus on expands. What am I repeatedly giving my attention to? What relationship do I notice between focus, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, energy, and choices? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ REFLECT & ASSESS — CLASS DISCUSSION — VOLUNTARY “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” — Buddha 44

CORE BELIEFS Core beliefs are fundamental and deeply ingrained assumptions about yourself and the world around you. These beliefs influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors by shaping your perspective. FOUR TYPES OF CORE BELIEFS SELF-WORTH — Beliefs about your own worth and value as a person. OTHER PEOPLE — Beliefs about others, such as their trustworthiness or intentions. THE WORLD — Beliefs about the world and how it operates. THE FUTURE — Beliefs about what the future holds and what might happen. Core beliefs often form through experience, messages from others, and interpretation. They can be examined by looking at evidence, considering alternatives, and practicing more balanced thoughts. REFLECT & ASSESS — PRIVATE What core belief about myself most influences how I interpret my experiences? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ WHAT DO YOU SEE? Attitude refers to an expression of the way one feels. Behavior is the way someone acts in response to their feelings. Although attitude and behavior are related, they are distinct. Attitudes can include three components: COGNITIVE — how you think. EMOTIONAL — how you feel. BEHAVIORAL — how you act. Your attitude can influence how you communicate, collaborate, perform responsibilities, and move through your day. Your attitude determines your altitude! EMOTIONS / EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE Emotions are created by our brains. They are the way our brains give meaning to bodily sensations based on past experiences Emotional intelligence is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. REFLECT & ASSESS — PRIVATE How well do I recognize what is happening within me before I act? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ “Emotion can be the enemy, if you give into your emotion, you lose yourself. You must always be at one with your emotions, because the body always follows the mind.” — Bruce Lee DEGREES OF EMOTION HOW MUCH AM I FEELING? I am powerful beyond measure. I turn thoughts into things. LISTEN TO YOUR EMOTIONS… Bitterness can point toward where healing is needed. Anger can point toward passion, boundaries, or something believed to need change. Guilt can point toward expectations or something hurtful that was done. Anxiety can call attention to being stuck in the past or living in fear of the future. Sadness can reveal the depth of your feelings and care. REFLECT & ASSESS — CLASS DISCUSSION What information might one of my emotions be bringing to my awareness? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ FEELINGS Feelings help us interpret and respond to our experiences. ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ Becoming more aware of feelings allows us to understand, use, and express them more consciously. ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ REFLECT & ASSESS — PRIVATE What feelings have I had difficulty naming or expressing? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ What changes when I can name what I am feeling? ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ “People will forget what you say and what you do, but they will never forget the way you made them feel.” — Maya Angelou 49

HOW OUR THOUGHTS DICTATE OUR FEELINGS Thoughts and feelings are not the same thing. We do not always know that we are thinking a thought until it becomes conscious. A change in thought can change the automatic interpretation of a feeling. When an unhelpful thought appears: NOTICE IT./FEEL IT Do not judge it. EXAMINE IT./FACE IT Ask: Is this healthy and beneficial? CHANGE IT./FIX IT Breathe gently and let the thought go. CHOOSE./FREE IT Choose a thought that serves you better. “We’re not here to be right. We’re here to get it right.” TRUST TRUST BEGINS WITHIN. Self-trust is the relationship we build with ourselves when we learn to listen to what we know, believe what we recognize, honor what we feel, make conscious decisions, and follow through on promises we make to ourselves. Self-trust does not mean believing you will never make a mistake. It means knowing that when you make a mistake, you can face it, learn from it, correct what can be corrected, and make another conscious choice. You do not build self-trust by always being right. You build it by becoming someone you can rely on. REFLECT & ASSESS — PRIVATE CAN I TRUST ME? 1. TYPES OF TRAUMA • Physical Trauma: A severe bodily injury, wound, or shock, such as a major burn, broken bone, or head injury. 60

• Psychological/Emotional Trauma: A lasting emotional response to a terrifying, dangerous, or shocking event—or an ongoing series of events—that makes a person feel helpless and shatters their sense of safety. • Acute Trauma: A single, one-time stressful event, such as a car crash, natural disaster, or sudden loss. • Chronic/Complex Trauma: Prolonged and repeated stress, such as long-term abuse, domestic violence, or persistent neglect. COMMON EFFECTS AND REACTIONS • Emotional: Intense fear, anxiety, sadness, shame, or numbness. • Physical: Trouble sleeping, fatigue, hypervigilance—being constantly on edge—or stomach upset. • Long-term: Trauma can contribute to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, or difficulties in daily functioning and relationships. GENERATIONAL TRAUMA Generational trauma can be like an inheritance we did not ask for but carry anyway. Families can pass down fear, silence, survival patterns, beliefs, coping behaviors, relationship patterns, anger, shame, and ways of responding to pain. We can inherit a pattern without being required to continue it. What was inherited may explain a pattern. It does not have to become our identity.
