IMPACT REPORT 2025-2026IMPACT REPORT 2025-2026Shelly Wharton Executive DirectorThank you to each and every one of you for making 2025 a year of advocacy and progress. For 73 years, we have remained dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year, we continued to expand professional development and leadership learning opportunities for our team, strengthening our ability to provide high-quality services and supports. We also remained active in advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal levels. Our services were strengthened by the generosity of donors, volunteers, community partners, and organizations who invested their time, talents, and resources in our work, helping to fuel our mission. Because of this support, individuals experienced meaningful opportunities to engage in their communities, build relationships, explore new interests, and give back through volunteerism. As we look ahead, our commitment remains unwavering. We are grateful for the individuals and families that we are privileged to serve, the dedicated team members who make our mission possible, and the supporters, Board of Directors, county boards, volunteers, and local, state, and federal partners who stand beside us. Together, we are creating more inclusive communities and expanding opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live their best lives. We could not do it without you.

Thanks to the generous bequest of Robert J. Toth, the future Toth Home and Heritage Home will provide high-quality, person-centered support in welcoming, modern, and accessible environments. These homes will help meet the growing need for residential services while creating new opportunities for individuals to live with dignity and independence. We are honored to carry forward Robert J. Toth's legacy, and with the groundbreaking on July 27, 2026, we took an exciting step toward making this vision a reality. For 65 years, Steve cared for his brother Mark alongside their family. But when it became clear they could no longer safely meet his complex needs, Steve and his family faced an impossible choice. That is where The Society stepped in. The difference was immediate. Mark’s first FaceTime call from the Deerview home showed a brother Steve hadn’t seen in a long time. “Seeing him genuinely happy, engaged, and proud of his day was the first moment we realized how dramatically his life had already changed.” Mark was going to stores, out to lunch, exploring the community. In his previous year with a different provider, he’d been out fewer than six times. But the transformation meant something deeper for Steve too. “When I was working and also serving as Mark’s primary caregiver, I struggled to keep up professionally, and it became hard to separate being his caregiver and being his brother.” Now, everything has shifted. “Now, I get to simply be his brother again. We go to church, out to lunch, hiking with friends, visit with my grandchildren, and go to car shows. Our time together is joyful instead of stressful.” Mark’s sister-in-law, Ann, puts it simply: “Mark now lives a better life than he did with us - he’s out in the community daily, going to lunch, attending events, and truly enjoying life. That means everything to us.” This is what quality care looks like. Not just safety and support, but dignity, opportunity and the chance for families to live without carrying the weight alone. What makes this possible is a team that truly sees Mark. The caregivers at Deerview didn’t just accept him as he is; they invested in understanding him. They learned his unique communication style, his transfer needs, and the specifics of his care. Steve observes that they “treat residents the way they would want to be treated,” showing up every day with both kindness and genuine engagement. For families like Steve’s, that level of care and expertise changes everything. It means peace of mind. It means trust. But more than that, it means Mark gets to live his best life.
