R E H A B I L I T A T I O N + E X T E N S I O N This project is about reconnecting students with the Parc de la Ciutadella while giving new life to Las Caballerizas, a historic building that has gradually lost its original purpose. By transforming it into a student hub, gallery and residence, the proposal creates a new public entrance between the city and the park where students, visitors and the local community can meet, learn and create together. Guided by the principles of Recircular, Microclimatic and Timelinks, the project reuses the existing building, improves environmental comfort and reconnects the site with its history. Environmental strategies extend the landscape of the park into the building through vegetated pergolas, interior gardens, seasonal shading and natural ventilation, creating comfortable spaces while reducing energy demand. A new atrium connects the city with the park, the gallery celebrates both the site’s history and student work, the student hub provides much needed study spaces, and the residence allows students to live alongside one of Barcelona’s most valuable green spaces. Together, they create a place where the city, the park and university life naturally come together. Las Caballerizas, Parc de la Ciutadella. Elari Ramirezp. 20 T H E C O M M U N I T Y G R E E N H O U S E This project entailed a detailed study of The Cultural Quarter in Leicester, England, with the objective of developing a comprehensive solution proposal to enhance the area. Despite The Cultural Quarter’s rich offerings, it remains under-appreciated, with limited public engagement and minimal visitor interaction. Additionally, there is a noticeable lack of green spaces and insufficient evening lighting. The Community Greenhouse, situated in The Cultural Quarter in St George St, is a strategic solution designed to address these challenges. As a model for community integration and well-being, its primary objective is to foster relationships among the various communities within the area by encouraging conversation and interaction. This modest yet vibrant green space not only addresses the scarcity of greenery but also improves the overall ambiance and safety with better lighting. The Community Greenhouse aims to revitalize both the environment and the community spirit, making The Cultural Quarter a more inviting and dynamic destination. Elari Ramirezp. 26 3 R D A G E D R O P - I N C E N T R E This Drop-in Third Age Centre Project, located on Rapton Street in Leicester, UK, is designed to create an inspiring and engaging space that encourages retirees to step outside, connect with their community, and embrace a socially active and fulfilling lifestyle. The project not only serves as a dedicated centre for older individuals but also enhances the surrounding urban and natural environment, fostering a deeper integration between architecture, nature, and community life. One of the project’s defining strengths is its strategic location, which directly influences its design and purpose Situated in front of a river and adjacent to a lush park, the centre takes full advantage of its picturesque setting, seamlessly incorporating the natural landscape into the architectural experience. Large windows, open terraces, and carefully planned outdoor areas allow users to engage with the riverfront, promoting relaxation and well- being through nature. Walking paths and seating areas provide spaces for relaxation, socializing, and outdoor activities, creating a smooth connection between the architecture and its natural surroundings.
