Grade 6 NS/Tech Research Project: Exploring Rovers onExploring Rovers on the Moon and Marsthe Moon and Mars Exploring RoversExploring Rovers onon thethe MoonMoon andand MarsMars Rovers – Robots on a Mission You will research and explore the design, key features and functions of robotic vehicles (rovers) used in space exploration on the Moon or Mars. The focus of this project is how these vehicles are engineered for space conditions. You will choose either a Moon Rover (like the Lunar Roving Vehicle or the Artemis LTV) or a Mars Rover (like Curiosity or Perseverance) and research the following: 1. Purpose of the Rover: • Why was the rover sent to the Moon or Mars? • What information is it collecting? 2. Wheels and Axles: • What are the wheels of the rover made of and why? • How are they designed to move over rocks and dust? Topic Objective Project Instructionsvisit twinkl.co.za Page 1 of 2

Exploring Rovers on the Moon and Mars 3. Cameras and Sensors • Where are the cameras placed? • What do they help the rover see or record? • Do they have any special features? 4. Wheels and Axles: • Does the rover have arms or tools? • What are they used for? If they have multiple uses, then list them all. 5. Solar Energy/Power System • How is the rover powered? • What are the benefits of that power source? 6. Communication Systems • How does the rover send information back to Earth? • How long does it take for messages to travel? • poster (handmade or digital) • mini booklet • Google Slides/PowerPoint presentation • fact file or research report • headings and subheadings • diagrams or pictures (you may draw or print them) • labels on important parts • fun facts Presentation Options (Choose One): Make sure your project includes: Exploring Rovers on the Moon and Marsvisit twinkl.co.za Page 2 of 2

Exploring Rovers on the Moon and Mars Criteria Excellent (4) Good (3) Satisfactory (2) Needs Work (1) Covers all required features (wheels and axles, cameras, mechanical arms, solar energy, communication) All required features are included in detail with extra, relevant information. Most features are included and explained well. Some features are missing or briefly mentioned. Few or no required features are included.
