BIRD WATCHING JOURNAL Welcome Make room for a slower kind of discovery. created by PaperLakerStudio 03 Your personal birding archive Use the quick log during an outing, then return to the detailed pages when you have more time. Add each newly identified species to your life list. Print favourite worksheets again whenever you need them. Choose your paper size Use the PDF matching your paper: A4 (210 x 297 mm), US Letter (8.5 x 11 in), or A5 (148 x 210 mm). The A5 edition has fewer table rows and a layout adapted for a smaller field binder. Print with confidence Print at Actual Size / 100%, portrait, one page per sheet. Turn off automatic scaling. Start with one test page. Use single-sided printing for easy rearranging, and check your printer supports the chosen paper size. Build your binder Keep the left margin clear for binding. Position your hole punch carefully and test it on a spare sheet. Print on paper that suits your pens. The Ink Saver edition uses a white background and lighter decoration. What you receive 32 pages per edition, including cover, contents, guidance, example and reusable worksheets. These are printable, non-fillable PDFs. No physical item is included. Illustrations are decorative, not identification references.
BIRD WATCHING JOURNAL A gentle start to birding Curiosity is all you need to begin. created by PaperLakerStudio 04 1. Pause and notice Start near home. Look for movement, then note the bird's size, shape, posture and behaviour before reaching for a name. 2. Record the clues Write down bill shape, colours, wing bars, tail pattern and habitat. Describe sounds in your own words. A quick sketch can capture a useful detail. 3. Check your identification Compare several features with a trusted, up-to-date regional field guide or bird identification resource. Leave uncertain sightings unconfirmed until you have enough evidence. 4. Keep a useful record Include date, place, count and observation method. Record estimated counts as estimates. Keep age separate from sex and use Unknown when unsure. 5. Observe with care Keep your distance. Avoid disturbing nests, handling wildlife or sharing sensitive nesting locations. Respect access rules and minimise disturbance from sound playback. Make this journal your own A life list records unique bird species you have identified over your lifetime. A trip checklist records species seen on one outing. Your wish list holds birds and places you hope to encounter.
