Behaviour: Ready, Respectful & Safe Children are expected to follow our three school rules at all times: Ready, Respectful and Safe. These provide a clear and consistent foundation for behaviour in all areas of school life. Vision & Values Aspirational Futures for All Children Aspirational Futures for All Children is our school-wide ethos, focused on ensuring that all children in our care have aspirational futures and improved life chances. It is rooted in a growth mindset—believing that abilities can be developed through effort, perseverance and learning from mistakes. We encourage children to make small, consistent improvements—known as 1% gains—across all aspects of school life. Whether in learning, behaviour, organisation or attitude, these incremental steps lead to meaningful, long- term growth. By aiming for continual improvement, every child can reach their full potential. Celebrating Success Shine Assembly Each week, successes are celebrated in a special ‘Shine Assembly’ and achievements are recognised and shared. Our certificates celebrate a range of achievements, including academic progress, positive attitude or excellent behaviour. Beyond the Classroom We love to celebrate achievements beyond the classroom too. If your child receives a certificate, trophy or medal for an out-of-school activity, please send it in so we can celebrate their success during our weekly assembly or in class. Expectations & Weekly Organisation To support the children on their journey and to help them make consistent 1% gains, we have a number of key expectations that underpin our daily routines and approach to learning.READYRESPECTFULSAFE

Throughout the day, there are planned opportunities for children to learn through play, promoting positive relationships, communication and collaboration. These shared experiences help children develop socially and emotionally while ensuring they feel part of a wider Early Years community. Our aim is to create a warm, safe and stimulating environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to explore, discover and thrive. The teachers in our Early Years classes are: Nursery and Pre-School Lead: Mrs Panter Reception Teacher: Miss Bartram The Early Years Foundation Stage is a unique and exciting time where children begin their school journey through play, exploration and discovery. In both our Nursery/Pre- School and Reception classes, we provide nurturing environments where every child is encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning. Our Nursery, Pre-School and Reception classes each have their own dedicated indoor and outdoor learning spaces, carefully designed to support children's curiosity and development. Through a balance of child-initiated play, adult-guided activities and meaningful interactions, children build the knowledge, skills and confidence that provide the foundations for future learning. Welcome to Early Years Some subjects or events will be covered by subject specialists as required. The other adults working in our classes will be: Mrs Ford Mrs Robinson Mrs Mulley Mrs Kapler

Mathematics in the Early Years is built through play, exploration and everyday experiences that encourage children to notice, investigate and make sense of the world around them. Through practical activities, stories, songs and meaningful conversations, children develop confidence with numbers, patterns, shapes and measures while learning to reason, solve problems and explain their thinking. Our aim is to foster a positive attitude towards mathematics and provide strong foundations for future learning. Maths in Early Years at Edith Weston Academy Nursery and Pre-School Number Shape Pattern Throughout Early Years, children will learn about: Measuring Addition & Subtraction Sharing & Grouping In Reception, children build on these early experiences through daily opportunities to explore mathematical ideas in practical and meaningful ways. Learning takes place through a combination of teacher-led focus groups, child- initiated play and rich indoor and outdoor provision. Children develop a secure understanding of number, counting, composition, shape, space and measure using practical resources, games and problem-solving activities. In Little Ospreys, mathematical learning is woven throughout the day and is centred around play, exploration and everyday experiences. Children are encouraged to count objects, sing number rhymes, notice patterns, compare sizes and quantities and begin to recognise numerals and simple shapes. Through activities such as building, sorting, role play and outdoor exploration, children develop early mathematical language and an understanding of the world around them. Reception Our aim throughout the Early Years is to develop confident, curious learners who enjoy exploring mathematics and are well prepared for the transition into Key Stage 1. Regular observations and ongoing assessment allow staff to celebrate progress, identify next steps and provide the right level of support and challenge for every child.

Surprise Text In Little Ospreys, children enjoy a wide range of stories, rhymes, role play and imaginative experiences that nurture a love of language and books. Adults model and extend children's vocabulary through meaningful interactions, helping them to develop their communication skills and understanding of the world. Children are encouraged to make marks in many different ways, developing the fine motor skills and confidence that lay the foundations for early writing. English in Early Years at Edith Weston Academy Some of the books we will enjoy in Early Years AUTUMN TERM SPRING TERM SUMMER TERM Nursery and Pre-School Reception In Reception, children continue to develop their language through high-quality stories, discussion and imaginative play while beginning a more structured journey into reading and writing. Daily phonics sessions help children learn the sounds that letters represent and begin to blend and segment words for reading and spelling. At Edith Weston, we use the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme, providing a consistent approach to phonics across the early years and into KS1 Alongside this, children have regular opportunities to practise letter formation, write for a range of purposes and apply their growing knowledge through both adult-led activities and independent learning. Our aim is to inspire a lifelong love of reading and writing while helping every child become a confident communicator. Language and communication are at the heart of learning in the Early Years. Through conversations, stories, songs, rhymes and play, children develop their speaking, listening and understanding skills while building a rich and varied vocabulary. We create language-rich environments where children are encouraged to express their ideas, ask questions and develop confidence as communicators.

The Early Years Curriculum The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is designed to provide children with a broad, balanced and engaging start to their education. Rather than being taught as separate subjects, learning is carefully planned through meaningful experiences, play and exploration that build children's knowledge, skills and understanding across all areas of development. The curriculum is organised around seven areas of learning: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. These areas are closely linked, allowing children to make connections and develop as confident, independent and curious learners. Reading is at the heart of our Early Years curriculum and we aim to develop a lifelong love of books and stories from the very beginning of a child's school journey. Sharing books, talking about pictures, retelling favourite stories and enjoying rhymes and songs all help children develop language, imagination and early literacy skills. In Nursery and Pre-School, children enjoy a wide range of high-quality picture books and stories every day. They are encouraged to talk about what they see, predict what might happen next and develop a rich vocabulary through meaningful conversations and imaginative play. We encourage families to share stories together regularly, helping children discover that reading is enjoyable and special. In Reception, children continue to enjoy sharing books at home while also beginning to read fully decodable books that are carefully matched to the phonics sounds they have been taught and their individual stage of learning. We recommend reading these books four or five times, as repeated reading develops fluency, confidence and understanding, allowing children to experience success and build secure reading habits. For Reception, we ask that all reading at home is recorded in children's reading diaries so that we can celebrate their progress and work in partnership with families to foster confident, enthusiastic readers. Below are some reading recommendations from the EYFS team: ReadingIf you would like any more recommendations, please call in to the class or send a message via Tapestry.
