INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN DRAWING Design drawing is a visual way of communicating ideas. It can help a designer think, visualise an idea, develop possible solutions, and communicate an idea to other people. The assignment brief identifies four drawing types: artistic, technical, design, and diagrammatic

ARTISTIC DRAWING Artistic drawing is a form of visual expression that uses lines, shapes and figures to communicate an artist’s ideas, emotions and feelings. According to G-Lamer, it is also known as the “language of forms” because visual elements can communicate without relying on words. Purpose : The main purpose of artistic drawing is to express ideas, emotions and feelings visually. It also allows artists to interpret objects subjectively and develop their own creative style. Examples : Basic Artistic Drawing ,Illustration ,Portrait ,Caricature ,Hyperrealism ,Graffiti ,Still Life ,Comics Context : Artistic drawing is mainly used for artistic expression and visual communication. Different forms can be used in different contexts, such as portraits for representing people, illustrations for supporting written information, graffiti for expressing ideas or feelings through murals, and comics for visual storytelling.

DESIGN DRAWING Drawing design is a creative process of using lines, shapes, forms, and visual elements to communicate ideas and concepts. It can be used to develop and present designs before they are produced into a final product. Purpose : The main purpose of drawing design is to communicate and develop creative ideas visually. It helps designers explore concepts, solve design problems, and provide a visual reference for creating the final design. Examples : A designer may create several sketches of a chair to explore different shapes, structures, and styles before selecting one design for the final product Context : Drawing design is commonly used in art, product design, architecture, fashion, and other creative fields. It allows designers to visually explore their ideas, experiment with different forms, and communicate their concepts to others. Drawings can range from simple sketches to detailed and developed designs.

TECHNICAL DRAWING Technical drawing is a method of drawing used to create a detailed and accurate representation of a product, building, machine, or component. It can be presented in forms such as 2D drawings, 3D models, blueprints, diagrams, and computeraided designs (CAD). Technical drawing is commonly used in fields such as architecture, engineering, and manufacturing. Purpose : The main purpose of technical drawing is to communicate design ideas and technical information accurately and clearly. It also acts as a technical language that helps professionals communicate with one another. In addition, technical drawings can be used as important documents and references throughout the design, construction, and manufacturing processes. Examples : A technical drawing of a mechanical part, such as a metal bracket, shows its exact dimensions, shape, holes, angles, and other specifications. This drawing allows engineers and manufacturers to understand how the part should be designed and produced accurately. Context : In the fields of design and engineering, ideas need to be translated into clear visual representations before a product or structure can be produced. Technical drawing provides important information about the shape, dimensions, materials, and details of a design. For example, in manufacturing, technical drawings are used to represent components and their specifications before the production process begins. In construction, they help communicate the design and details of a building.

DIAGRAMMIC DRAWING A diagram is a visual representation of information that uses symbols, shapes, lines, arrows, and other visual elements to communicate ideas or relationships clearly. Diagrams can be used to present information in a simple and organised way. Purpose : The main purpose of a diagram is to make information easier to understand and communicate visually. It simplifies complex information by highlighting important relationships, processes, or structures. Diagrams can also help people analyse information, understand systems, and explain ideas more effectively. Examples : A flowchart is a type of diagram that uses shapes and arrows to show the steps in a process. For example, a flowchart can illustrate the steps involved in completing an online order, from selecting a product to receiving the final confirmation. Context : Diagrams are widely used in different fields such as science, engineering, education, architecture, and technology. They help represent relationships, processes, systems, and abstract information in a visual form. Examples include flowcharts, network diagrams, Venn diagrams, circuit diagrams, and mind maps.

PURPOSE & FUNCTION OF DRAWING

PERSONAL REFLECTIONAfter doing this research, I learned that drawing is not only about making pictures. Drawing can also be used to express feelings, share ideas, design things, and explain information. I learned about different types of drawing, such as artistic, technical, design, and diagrammatic drawing. Each type has its own purpose and use. I found artistic drawing interesting because it allows me to be creative and express my own ideas. This research helped me understand drawing better. I also realized that drawing does not have to be perfect. The most important thing is that the drawing can communicate an idea clearly. Overall, I enjoyed learning about the different types and purposes of drawing, and I hope to improve my drawing skills in the future.

THANK YOU!
