Good day, I’m a detective in the Department of Metaphysical Sciences (DMS). Today, I shall tell you about the rumors spreading in Ormoc City, Leyte. Recently, my fellow colleagues and I have discovered that this unknown creature that the citizens have been talking and panicking about is an Aswang. Although its true identity isn’t confirmed by the DMS, I am the only one who knows who this Aswang is. He is a senior high school boy named Miguel. I learned that he loves music and doesn’t have friends. He also despises humans, and thinks that only they can satisfy his hunger. I know exactly what he wants. Now, we will go way back to where it all began, which was his first exposure.
“Another boring day in school, I’m tired of this!” Miguel says. He arrived at school alone, and after a long day, he headed home. “At last! This has been the worst day I’ve had in a while.” he says. He headed home, ready to transform. “Finally, it’s time to satisfy my hunger.” In a flash, his appearance changed. He flew from house to house, devouring everyone inside. When the police began searching for him, he quickly vanished.
The next day, Miguel attended school again, waiting impatiently for night time to come. “It’s time to head outside,” said Miguel while transforming into his Aswang form. He found a crowded house and began devouring everyone. When only one person remained, Miguel grew furious. “Only one person left?” he thought. The person finally gained the courage to speak and said “Please spare me, I don’t want to die!”. Miguel told him “Do you think I want my identity to be revealed? Of course not! That’s why I will erase all evidence.”The person ran and screamed for help. Miguel flew after him. When he caught up, he shouted “Nowhere to run!” and devoured him. The police arrived minutes later, but the Aswang was already gone.
A day after Miguel’s feast, he learned Renz, someone who bullied him when he was younger, joined the S.W.A.T. After hearing the name “Renz,” Miguel suddenly remembered his past. It all started in middle school, when Miguel was a kind person trying to fit in with humans. One day, Renz judged him for being different, and the bullying began. One night, after crying himself to sleep, a voice whispered,“Awaken, Miguel. Remember who you truly are.” He decided humans deserved no mercy. The next morning, Miguel was ready to devour Renz, but he discovered that Renz had moved to another city. Furious, Miguel swore to find him and devour him along with every other human. After remembering how he came to be, Miguel decided not to hunt that night. All he did was plot his next ambush and searched for ways to find Renz.
The next day, Miguel planned to ambush the S.W.A.T. base, believing Renz would be there, but it was heavily guarded. “I’ll deal with Renz later. First, I need to satisfy my hunger.” Miguel says. He chose the RedDoorz hotel because there are many people there. He flew into the hotel and began devouring everyone. While Miguel was hunting, the S.W.A.T. received information about the Aswang’s location. Upon arriving, they started raiding the hotel. Miguel realized he was trapped. During the raid, Miguel spotted Renz and froze. After years of hatred, he finally saw his chance for revenge. But attacking Renz would expose him, so he fled. The S.W.A.T. searched every room, but Miguel was already gone. Miguel secretly followed Renz through the city, waiting for him to become isolated. Eventually, he lost sight of him.
And so, the mystery remains unsolved. The identity of the aswang is still unknown. Or at least, that’s what everyone believes. You were so caught up in this mystery that you never wondered why the detective knew so much… How did I know what Miguel was thinking? How did I know where he went? How did I know what happened inside that hotel? Because I was there. You already know who I am.
