TO YOURThank you for joining us as we launch Kinky Boots. This is our next exciting adventure for HOPS Musical Theatre Company. In this guide you’ll find everything you need to decide whether this is the right production for you. We believe joining a show should always be an informed decision. We ask a great deal from our members, but in return we promise an unforgettable experience, lifelong friendships and the opportunity to be part of something truly special. Kinky Boots is far more than a musical. It’s a joyful, uplifting story with a powerful message: if you can change your mind, you can change the world. Together we’ll bring that message to life with energy, passion, laughter and a whole lot of fabulous footwear. Over many years HOPS has earned a reputation for producing musical theatre of the highest standard. That reputation doesn’t happen by accident. It comes through commitment, teamwork and a shared determination to create something we’re all proud of. We set ourselves high standards, but we never lose sight of why we’re here; to have fun, make memories and build friendships that often last a lifetime. This guide explains exactly what to expect over the coming months, from auditions and rehearsals through to opening night and the final curtain. We launch our productions well in advance so that we can cast early, organise publicity photography and begin an ambitious marketing campaign. The earlier we start promoting the show, the larger the audiences, every performer deserves to play to a full house. Whether you’re returning to HOPS or considering joining us for the very first time, we’re delighted you’re here. We hope the information in these pages gives you a clear picture of what’s involved and leaves you as excited about the journey ahead as we are. Finally, thank you to every volunteer, creative, technician, musician, trustee and supporter who makes HOPS possible. It is your enthusiasm, generosity and dedication that continues to make this company such a special place to belong. So… polish those boots, embrace the journey and Let’s strut our stuff together! Warmest wishes Richard Chairman HOPS Musical Theatre Company Ladies, gentlemen, and those who have yet to make up their minds… welcome! WelcomeWelcomeWelcome JOURNEYKinky BootsKinky BootsKinky Boots

MEMBERSHIPMEMBERSHIPYou’ll first need to become a Friend of HOPS. This costs £20 per year and is required before auditioning. If you're cast in the show, the remaining balance of your full player’s membership will be due by the first rehearsal (£70), bringing the total to £90. For this show there is an additional charge of £20 per cast member, this due to the cost of the boots for the show, see costumes section. If you're not cast, you’ll remain a valued friend, with perks like ticket discounts, voting rights, and invites to HOPS social events. Friends can also take part as crew, front of house, or other supportive roles – there's always a place for you in the HOPS family! Being part of HOPS means giving your time, talent and teamwork. We ask for 100% commitment: attending all rehearsals you're called for, arriving prepared, and respecting every member of the company, both on and off stage. Producing a show like Kinky Boots takes the whole community. In return, you’ll be part of a supportive, social, and rewarding experience – we know the joy this show brings to cast, crew and ultimately our audience. All payments, whether for membership, social activities or HOPS clothing garments, should be made into one account only. We politely ask that you provide your name and payment reason when paying into the society’s account to aid our Finance Team. Kinky Boots is an incredible show…but it’s also one of the most demanding productions HOPS has ever staged - we know because we have done it before, and we want to take it up a notch again! NEW Chroreographer, NEW costumes, NEW cast and a NEW commitment. Whilst HOPS is a hobby and we completely understand that work, family, holidays and life’s unexpected moments sometimes get in the way, when you accept a role you are also making a commitment to everyone else in the company. Every missed rehearsal affects not only you, but your fellow cast members, the director, the production team, choreographer, musical director and volunteers who give up their time to help create something special. The more prepared everyone is, the more enjoyable rehearsals become, the less stressful the process is, and the higher the standard we can achieve together. Because of the scale of Kinky Boots, both principals and ensemble are on stage for much of the show, with many cast members appearing in almost every major musical number. That means every rehearsal counts. Other Productions Please think carefully before committing to other productions that rehearse or perform between March and June. We know it’s tempting to do everything, but rehearsal schedules inevitably clash and it simply isn’t fair on either company if your time and attention are divided. If you already have commitments, please tell us before casting. We will always do our best to work with genuine, pre-agreed absences. The Three Strike Rule To keep things fair for everyone, any rehearsal absences not declared and agreed before casting will count towards our attendance policy. Three undeclared absences may result in your role being recast. This isn’t about punishment, it’s about protecting the production and being fair to every member of the company who has committed their time and energy to making the show a success. If something unexpected happens, simply talk to us. Life will always throw the occasional curveball, and communication is everything. We’d much rather have an honest conversation early than reach a point where the production is affected. Enjoy the journey.PAGE 03 COMMITMENTCOMMITMENT THE THREE STRIKE RULE Three rehearsals missed that were not approved before casting = your role may be recast. The earlier you tell us about any commitments, the more likely we can work around them. If you are unable to make a rehearsal that hasn’t been pre-approved, please contact BOTH Richard 07767 351 270 & Cathy 07966 293 881 as soon as possible.

The safety and wellbeing of all members is a priority. To help us create an inclusive and supportive environment, we ask that you disclose any medical, physical, or mental health conditions, including allergies, that may impact your participation in the production. This allows us to make any reasonable adjustments needed to support you safely and appropriately. If you have a condition that may affect your ability to rehearse or perform safely, it is your responsibility to inform us. All information shared will be treated with sensitivity and in confidence by the production team. We respect everyone’s identity and aim to create an inclusive space. If you identify differently from your birth sex or have preferred pronouns, please let us know. This will allow us to make suitable arrangements, for example, backstage facilities. HOPS has a robust Safeguarding Policy, protecting members in all capacities. Everyone should treat each other with respect and report concerns promptly. Key policies are available. Being part of a major HOPS production, and achieving the extremely high standard we have become known for, can feel stressful! HOPS is a hobby that will bring you a lot of pleasure, but if you ever have any concerns or issues, please talk to either the Chairman (Richard), Director (Mike), MD (Jim), Choreographer(Jess) or one of the Trustees . This enables us to support you and resolve issues, stopping your concerns from escalating. A friendly face is always on hand to listen and help. To support with your mental health and wellbeing, HOPS encourage a “focused but fun” show journey, by organising social and fundraising events. Whether it's attending or being involved in the organisation or delivery of an event, it is an important part of being a member. These events are a great way to spend some social time with your HOPS family, whilst raising important funds for charity. The following will give you a clearer indication of the commitment required by HOPS. This is only a draft and may be subject to change. An updated schedule will be issued after casting, when things have been updated based on planned absences. Timing: Rehearsals tend to fall on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:30–10:00pm Singing rehearsals can fall on other days but as a general rule tend to start at 7:30pm. there are some Wednesday's in the schedule, these are the same location and timings. Location: Drama Studio, St John Fisher’s Catholic High School, Hookstone Drive, Harrogate HG2 8PT Additional Rehearsals: After Easter Sunday, expect extra evening rehearsals and Sunday rehearsals 5:00pm-9:00pm Up to two ‘Super Sunday’ rehearsals 11:00am-9:00pm What’s Expected: Arrive on time, ready to begin. Any unavoidable absences must be communicated with the Richard or Cathy by Phone. Phone numbers listed on page 3REHEARSALSREHEARSALS PAGE 05 Next is the draft of the rehearsal commitment. The ensemble and some principle costumes will be provided by you, this is because all the factory-wear is generic everyday clothing. Every costume has to be signed off by Richard Lill, our costume designer. For Lola and the Angels, all costumes will be provided, but appropriate underwear will need to be bought by the cast. All wigs for Lola & the Angels will be provided by HOPS. EVERY cast member will be expected to pay £20 each towards the cost of the boots (most pairs cost in the region of £50/pair). Every effort is made to ensure that every cast member looks, and feels, comfortable and confident. Cast members are responsible for sourcing some essential personal items. This may include, but is not limited to, dance shoes and basic accessories like socks, tights, and costume-ready undergarments. COSTUME FITTINGS All cast will be measured for costumes on 22nd October 2026 so costumes can be made in time for the photoshoot. Final costume fittings will be held in May at our usual rehearsal space. Exact dates to follow. Should you struggle with sourcing a personal item, please contact Richard Lill for advice or assistance.COSTUMESCOSTUMES VOCAL ARRANGEMENTSVOCAL ARRANGEMENTSYour assigned vocal part will be confirmed post-audition. Please note that the Musical Director may make changes over time. Whether you're Bass, Alto, Tenor, or Soprano, please prepare individually between rehearsals. Voice recordings during rehearsals are encouraged. Please ensure you have your music available at every rehearsal. Rehearsal tracks will be made available via Dropbox. Physical copies of libretto and scores can be collected from the Committee Secretary before the first rehearsal. Each physical copy will be numbered. While no deposit is required, we ask that all markings are made in pencil only and that books are returned clean, with all notes erased. If a lib or score is lost or returned damaged, you will be invoiced for the replacement, at a cost of £25 per book, this is the cost of replacemnt to HOPS. CHOReOGRAPHYCHOReOGRAPHYThe choreography in this show has 2 levels. The Lola & the Angels choreography will be more challenging, however EVERYONE needs a good ability of dance as there are some big numbers. One thing that is non-negotiable is the finale, EVERYONE will be dancing in the finale in high heeled boots - the heels will be in general 4" -6" high. Due to licensing restrictions for the show (relating to the copying of music and the lib), we are only allowed to provide you with extracts for audition prep. Once auditions and the script read through have taken place, we ask that you destroy all audition pieces, otherwise we will be fined by the right holders, Music Theatre International (MTI). Marketing plays a vital role in the success of every HOPS production. To maintain the consistency and quality of our promotional campaign, all cast and crew members are required to take part in publicity activities. By signing up for Kinky Boots, you are consenting to the use of your image across marketing platforms, including print, social media and digital promotions. Once a show is cast and the official photo shoot has taken place, these materials become essential to our campaign and cannot be amended or reshot. If a cast member withdraws from the production or is asked to step down, images already captured may still be used, where appropriate. We assure you that all imagery will be used respectfully and in line with our values. SOCIAL MEDIA Marketing is a team effort. We ask everyone to actively engage with HOPS' social media: like, share and comment on posts to help create a buzz and drive ticket sales. A strong digital presence is key to attracting an audience who will appreciate the hard work on stage. Join the conversation on social media via HOPS Instagram (@hopsmusicaltheatre), TikTok (@hopsmusicals) and Facebook (HOPs Musical Theatre Company). Share posts, tag friends, and use our campaign hashtag #HOPSKinkyBoots to allow us to find your posts! Our website has recently been updated: www.hops-mtc.co.uk BEYOND SOCIAL MEDIA Official posters and flyers will be distributed at rehearsals: we ask that you distribute these locally. Please display at local community hubs, shops, schools, or work noticeboards regularly. TICKET SALES Tickets are available through Harrogate Theatre Box Office (online, over the phone or in- person). Please regularly promote this, so that your community knows how to book. Cast discount codes will be emailed and we strongly encourage you to use this whilst they remain valid.MARKETINGMARKETING PAGE 08

AUDITION MATERIALAUDITION MATERIALAll music tracks for auditions are available to download by following this link: AUDITION PROCESS & FORMATAUDITION PROCESS & FORMAT Look through everything, ask any questions you may have. 1.Attend the heels workshop and audition vocal prep night, this is your chance to spend time with Jim (MD) to go through the audition pieces. Whilst we like everyone to attend these they are not compulsory. 2.Decide which part(s) you want to audition for and update your form. This is the ONLY way you will be added to the schedule. https://forms.gle/x93cCWcL3Zf4Lcg78 3. If you decide that it is not for you it would be kind of you to let us know as we never want to assume - you will always be welcomed back in the future.Dance auditions: (Friday 16th October 2026) 7:00pm - 10:00pm Movement auditions are carried out in a group. You will be taught a piece of choreography. You will then work as a group outside of the audition room and practise for approximately 15 minutes, whilst another group perform in the audition room. Dance auditions are required by all potential cast. Following the last group, you may wish to stay and complete a second dance audition to be considered for the role of Lola or one of The Angels. The same format will apply with more extensive choreography. Principal Lib and Vocal Auditions: (Saturday 17th October) 10:00am - 6:00pm - time slots to be allocated You will be allocated a time for your audition; usually all people going for the same part will be seen consecutively. In the room, will be the audition panel and 2 readers to support your scene. There will be a small amount of furniture which you can move & use if needed. Your lib & vocal audition will be done in ‘show order’. It is your personal choice if you wish to be ‘off-book’ or hold notes in your audition. Ensemble Vocal Auditions: These will be completed as a group. Jim (MD) will get everyone to sing together. He will then set a couple of lines that each person will need to sing solo. This is to help him assess voices. Our cast announcement should take place on Monday 19 October. During the first 24 hours of notifications going out, we respectfully ask that you do not discuss what you have (or have not) been offered. We ask you to wait until all parts have been accepted, as, on occasion, we need to redistribute roles to accommodate declined roles. th THE NEXT STEPTHE NEXT STEP PAGE 12 At HOPS we strive for brilliance and aim to get the very best cast we can from talent based around the region; this doesn’t mean you have to have tons of experience or have played with HOPS in the past.
