Dream To Soar by Michaela Wallis, MTA Verse 1 A father had a dream one day, A dream for his child to learn and play, To have a school, a place to belong, To find her voice and become strong. And that one dream began to grow, As parents and children came to know, That kids could learn at their own pace At a special school, a caring place. Verse 2 Some dreamed of talking, finding a voice, Of confidence to share their choice. Some dreamed of reading and writing too, Of wheelchair ramps to enter through. Some dreamed of skills for everyday, Of finding work that of- fered pay. Some dreamed of friends, laughter and play, Of discovering the world, their special way. Chorus Here we find a place to belong, A place to find our gifts and our song, To learn, to grow, to reach and see The person we were meant to be. With helping hands and hearts that care, We find our courage blooming here. And when we share the gifts we bring, We help each other spread our wings. Verse 3 With teachers by them, advocates too, Believing in dreams, helping them through, They started to grow, began to see The amazing people they could be. One found a gift in music and song. One found a gift in helping along. One found a gift in painting and art. One found a gift, caring from the heart. Verse 4 Along the path, came challenges too. Some things were hard; some journeys were new. They learned to face the difficult days And find their strength through different ways. They learned, as they lived life’s ups and downs, That shared laughter could outweigh the frowns; That as they overcame their biggest fears There would be more smiles, far fewer tears. Repeat Chorus

Bridge Look up and see the flock Crossing through the blue, A ‘V’ across the heavens, Each bird pulling others through. The wings in the front Cre- ate a lifting breeze, To help the geese behind Carry their weight with ease. The lead bird grows tired. Another takes the lead, While others honk support To maintain a rhythmic speed. When one can’t go on, Two buddies leave with her To take time out to heal And re-join the other birds. For there is strength in every wing And there is room for every- one. Each may have a different gift But, together, they fly as one. Verse 5 The school, like the dream, grew through the years, Breaking down barriers, easing fears, Opening eyes, making people aware That every child has a light to share. These lights brighten the lives that they touch, Enriching society ever so much. With loving acceptance, their wings unfurl As dreams are seized by each boy and girl. With gifts and skills, they’re equipped to fly, To soar with joy, their heads held high! As adults, they’ll continue to soar And embrace life’s blessings more and more!
