Kristen Ortiz Interior Designer
Hi! Design Philosophy Helping others is at the core of who I am, and design is an outlet through which I can improve people’s lives. As designers we have the opportunity to create meaningful impacts on society through built environments, and I believe that we should create spaces that maintain and support the well being of people and the planet. Through purposeful and thoughtful design, we can positively shape the world around us. Bloomington Pediatric Clinic Concept Statement: The aim of this outpatient pediatric clinic is to create an environment that is healing and stress relieving through the utilization of salutogenic design. The exam rooms, or planets, are supported by the staff area in the center of the space, the sun. A calming atmosphere will be created through the use of organic shapes, acoustic materials, and views of nature. A complimentary color scheme with hues of orange and blue paired with yellow, neutral white, and warm gold tones to create an uplifting and welcoming feeling. This salutogenic approach considers how design can enhance the healing process and ease anxiety in healthcare scenarios, which is what this clinic was modeled after. Neuroinclusive: Hypersensitive Individual Work Area Group Work Booths Hypersensitive people avoid excess stimuli to prevent over stimulation. Avoiding excess sound was a priority when designing these areas. Having a sense of privacy was important to consider when designing these spaces, with more options for level of privacy in the individual workspace, ranging from semi-private desks to fully enclosed work pods.
Neuroinclusive Hyposensitive Reading Lounge Benches Reading Lounge Hyposensitive people tend to seek out stimuli, so creating a space that is comfortable for them to focus in the library was important. Engaging their senses was important to creating more stimuli while still being a comfortable space. Vision: window views, varying colors and textures Hearing: people talking, microwave, coffee machine Touch: books, whiteboards Taste: snack station Smell: food and drinks being made
