But when and how? - Mishry Sanghvi, Tannupriya Karn Design Kalash had come up with an interesting idea of Ice-breaking session between the foundation year students and their seniors on 25th July. This session was held to break the ice and create a connection and warm up with the seniors, for thefreshers, who had recently joined ourdepartment. There were few games organized to know each other. It was like a small talk, making to be spoken by a creative idea of writing it down and fly it over. All our freshers, the foundation year students, had quite a lot of fun during this session. It was like breaking the winter ice and cozying into couches infront of the fireplace. The whole fun session created a warm connection between the students.
4 | Abhikalp DESIGN KALASH-continued Handloom Day National Handloom Day, the celebration of the tradition rooted divergent handmade crafts, has been celebrated in our beloved GUCPC School of Design, on the very day itself. The event was hosted by Sheerin Qureshi with the creativity and enthusiasm of fashion disciplined students. The event was organized to showcase the original and innovative old crafts rooted in diverse India. India has always been a hub of rich culture and traditions; to get a recognition it deserves, understanding these crafts legacy was the main motive of this event. Many activities like Pahadi Paranda, Flip n’ Match, Rice Postcard, Mogras, Wool activities, and many more were organized by our own department’s fashion students. The highlight of the event was to weave warps and wefts on handloom to gain the knowledge of centuries old craftsmanship. To create an enviornment to reglorify our old crafts and the hard work of artisans, the magical touch given by our own hands, and to understand deeply about the importance of it, this event was heartily hosted. Everyone who participated in the event through volunteering or as an audience, gained a good amount of knowledge of the handcrafts, and even enjoyed a lot. ~ Mishry Sanghvi

The process came with challenges as the clay developed cracks, but with patience and continuous refinement, students perfected every detail, from the eyes and trunk to the nails and feet. What emerged was not just an idol, but a creation shaped with dedication and bhakti. The Décor Team brought vibrancy to the celebration. Handcrafted mushak figurines, playful and expressive, added storytelling to the space. The backdrop featured two majestic thermocol elephants, strengthened with POP and shaded with chalk pastels, creating a regal frame for the idol. A scroll with “Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha” written in red kanku added a touch of purity, while bamboo-cloth lamps cast a warm, traditional glow. While seniors guided the planning, the juniors were the backbone.Their energy, hard work, and countless late-night sessions shaped the celebration. On the day of aagman, the idol was carried from the main building to the Design Department, followed by a serene sthapna and pooja. Dr. Pawan Pandit appreciated the students’ creativity and effort. This year’s Ganesh Utsav truly reflected how design can connect tradition, collaboration, and creativity turning a festival into a memorable shared experience. continued
