V&M Art Gallery Main Gallery Booklet

This booklet introduces the V&M Art Gallery, opened in 2023 as a permanent home for Vincent and Marina D'Aguilar's collection. It describes the gallery's hurricane-resistant design, themed rooms, and key artworks including works by Amos Ferguson, Maxwell Taylor, and the Roland Rose archive.

This booklet presents the V&M Art Gallery, which opened in 2023 to house the private collection of Vincent and Marina D'Aguilar. The gallery is part of the D'Aguilar Art Foundation, directed by Saskia D'Aguilar, and was built on a hill to withstand hurricanes and flooding, with climate control and expanded storage for long-term preservation.

The gallery features multiple themed rooms including portraiture, Junkanoo, and more. It showcases primarily Bahamian works alongside international artists, with highlights including approximately 50 original works by Amos Ferguson and significant holdings by Maxwell Taylor and other leading Bahamian artists.

The booklet includes a table of contents listing rooms: Vincent & Marina, The Portrait Room, The Junkanoo Room, The Amos Ferguson Room, The Amulet Room, The Black & White Room, The Uncensored Room, and The Office & Storage Room.

The Vincent & Marina section describes the couple as passionate collectors who began collecting around Bahamian independence. Their collection grew into the D'Aguilar Art Foundation, which preserves and celebrates Bahamian creativity through education, exhibitions, and cultural engagement.

The booklet features artist John Edward Cox, born 1973 in Nassau, known for mixed media works. He founded Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts, taught at the College of The Bahamas, served as Chief Curator at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, and is Creative Art Director for Baha Mar resort. His work has appeared in Art Basel Miami and other major shows.
