<Looks Like I Hit Refresh One Too Many Times> Changes in familiar objects, such as a toothbrush with bristles bent to one side, the faded buttons of a remote control, or fingerprints left on a screen, often escape our notice even when they are right before our eyes. We mindlessly repeat familiar routines and actions, some- times hitting “refresh” again and again in the hope of finding something different. Yet when even the search for novelty becomes repetitive, refreshing no longer brings us an entirely new screen. In 《Art & Innovation Exhibi- tion_Looks Like I Hit Refresh One Too Many Times》, the participating artists may have sought to create small cracks in perceptions shaped by familiarity and, within those openings, uncover something new that had previously gone unnoticed. They do not, however, seek to redefine the familiar world entirely. What a “refresh” might change remains open. Rather, we hope that encountering these works will allow familiar things to appear slightly different and inspire new questions about overlooked changes and possibilities. Perhaps we have not hit refresh too many times after all, but simply have not hit it enough yet.

Human beings live through repetition. The routine of beginning and ending each day returns again and again, yet it is never repeated in exactly the same way. Relationships and emotions, as well as choices and actions, accumulate and shift continuously over time, each leaving behind a different trace. Based on this idea, I set out to visualize how repetition leaves traces and brings about change. This work begins with an intervention into printed matter produced on a mass scale. I repeatedly cover, scratch, and write on its surface. Through this process, the existing images and text become blurred and distorted, but they never disappear entirely. Even on surfaces that appear to have been erased, traces of friction, layers of material, and the accumulation of repeated actions remain faintly visible. In this work, repetition is ultimately not a process of erasing existing information, but one of transforming the object into another state. A surface where absence and persistence coexist reveals how time accumulates through repetition and how traces themselves are transformed. We live each day in the same spaces, doing the same work and repeating familiar gestures. Familiarity gives us a sense of stability, but at times it dulls our ability to see the world anew. This immersive interactive artwork was created in the hope that viewers might encounter the familiar world through a different gaze, with the openness of childhood, when everything felt new. Filling the exhibition space, the sheer scale of the work gives viewers the sensation of standing in the middle of an unknown world. They interact with objects on the screen that seem both familiar and strange, encountering a space that shifts slowly in response to their actions. In the process, they wander through the work as though travelling across worlds in which reality and dreams intermingle. The experience of encountering a world that feels both familiar and unfamiliar invites us to look again at everyday life and at the sensations we have passed by without noticing. I hope that, even after leaving the gallery, viewers may see familiar surroundings with a gaze different from the one they had before and discover new possibilities and hidden wonder within daily life. 2026, immersive art 5-channel media installation sensor color sound, 8min variable size
