We were heading to Kochi for the Kochi- Muziris Biennale, an opportunity to experience contemporary art in a city full of history, culture and architectural character. The plan was simple: travel together, explore the city, visit the exhibition sites, eat well and return with a few hundred photographs. Some trips stay with you longer than the journey itself. Four days. A train journey. A new city. Contemporary art, old buildings, good food, glowing water and memories we didn't know we were making. This is our little collection of everything that happened between the beginning and the end.

And so, the trip began… There is always a lot that happens before a trip actually begins. The packing the last-minute checks, the messages asking where everyone is and the familiar question: Did you bring everything?

After the journey from Bengaluru, stepping into a new city felt like the real beginning of the trip. There was so much to see, and we were finally there to see it ourselves. We made our way towards the Water Metro, carrying our bags. The views, the movement of the boat and the journey itself became part of our first day.
Kochi felt like a city made of layers: historic buildings, busy streets, water, greenery, shops and everyday life all existing together. We had come for an art exhibition, but the city itself was already giving us plenty to look at.

NO TWO STREETS FELT QUITE THE SAME. Exploring the city meant noticing the details along the way. A doorway, a weathered wall, a shop sign, a balcony or a little street that looked different from the last one.
located in Mattancherry
Rather than a permanent retail storefront, this space is well known for hosting a participatory, community-based contemporary art project created by Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle. What is Casa Borges? The Concept: Conceived as a "counter-museum," the venue functions as an active workshop that directly challenges traditional museum logic. The Project: It invites local Kochi residents to bring in broken, everyday items from their lives (such as tools, chairs, or old electronics). Local craftspeople and technicians then work directly inside the space to restore and repair these objects. Temporary Nature: Once the broken "memories" are repaired, they are temporarily put on display before being returned to their original owners, keeping the exhibition in a constant state of fluid transformation

A little detour from the art trail We'd been walking around, exploring the city and taking in everything Kochi had to offer when we somehow stumbled across a beach. After a day of walking through streets, looking at buildings and discovering new places, it felt good to do absolutely nothing.
