A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO SUMMER CONNECTIONS, STRONGER COMMUNITIES Dear Community, Strong communities are built through connection, compassion, and equitable access to care. During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of addressing the unique mental health challenges that many Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities continue to face. Cultural stigma, language barriers, and limited access to care can prevent individuals from seeking the support they deserve. Raising awareness and fostering understanding helps create communities where everyone feels empowered to prioritize their mental well-being. This month also reminds us that caring for ourselves and staying connected to others go hand in hand. Social Wellness Month and International Self-Care Day (July 24th) encourage us to nurture meaningful relationships while making time to recharge our own mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Whether it's checking in on a friend, spending quality time with loved ones, setting healthy boundaries, or taking a moment to rest and reflect, these simple acts strengthen both ourselves and the communities around us. At SPIRITT, we remain committed to providing culturally responsive, compassionate services that strengthen children, families, and communities. Through our Child and Family Wellbeing and Community Behavioral Health programs, we strive to ensure that every individual feels seen, supported, and valued. Together, we can continue building healthier, more connected communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. With Appreciation, Elvia Torres Chief Executive Officer Page 2
S O C I A L W E L L N E S S M O N T H Social Wellness Month reminds us that meaningful relationships and a strong sense of community are essential to our overall well-being. Feeling connected to others can reduce stress, improve resilience, and strengthen both our mental and emotional health. As we observe International Self-Care Day on July 24, we are encouraged to make self-care a regular part of our daily lives. At SPIRITT, we know that wellness begins with connection—to ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. Taking time to care for your own well-being allows you to better support those around you and helps create healthier, stronger communities for everyone. Page 3 SUMMER CONNECTIONS, STRONGER COMMUNITIES July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of the mental health challenges that many Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities continue to face. Cultural stigma, language barriers, discrimination, and unequal access to care can make it more difficult for individuals and families to seek the support they deserve. At SPIRITT, we are committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed services that honor each person's unique background and lived experiences. We believe that everyone deserves equitable access to compassionate behavioral health services, where they feel seen, heard, and supported on their path toward healing. M I N O R I T Y M E N T A L H E A L T H A W A R E N E S S M O N T H D I D Y O U K N O W ? Mental health conditions affect people of every race and ethnicity, but access to care is not always equal. Talking openly about mental health helps reduce stigma and encourages others to seek support. Seeking help is a sign of strength—and early support can make a lasting difference. S u p p o r t S t r o n g e r F a m i l i e s For several years, Felicity* participated in SPIRITT's Relative Support Services (RSS) Program while raising her two granddaughters. Despite facing mental health challenges, difficult family dynamics, and financial hardships, Felicity remained committed to helping her granddaughters build brighter futures. Today, she proudly shares that both granddaughters are responsible young adults who are attending college while working toward their goals. Felicity credits SPIRITT's caregiver support groups with providing a safe, welcoming space where she could share her frustrations, fears, and successes with others who understood her journey. While she attended support groups, her granddaughters participated in youth activities, allowing the entire family to benefit from SPIRITT's services. The impact of that support has extended far beyond her own family. Inspired by her positive experience, Felicity has referred friends, acquaintances, and even strangers to SPIRITT, believing that everyone deserves the same compassion, encouragement, and opportunity to thrive. *Name changed to protect confidentiality. With the right support, families can find hope, strengthen relationships, and create new opportunities for future generations. Page 4 SUMMER CONNECTIONS, STRONGER COMMUNITIES
Our Braids & Waves Workshop brought together XX teens ages 12–17 for a fun and engaging opportunity to learn new hairstyling techniques while building confidence and connecting with peers. The series was held over three weeks in South El Monte and four weeks in Whittier, where participants enjoyed hands-on instruction, food and refreshments, certificate presentations for those who completed the program, surprise gifts, and gift card raff les. Through programs like Braids & Waves, SPIRITT continues to create safe, supportive spaces where youth can develop new skills, build positive relationships, and strengthen their sense of self. Page 5 SPIRITT IN ACTION: Looking Back at June Through our Prevention & Aftercare Program, SPIRITT proudly served 106 families during our Food Distribution Event on June 27, 2026. By providing nutritious food and connecting families with community resources, we continue our commitment to strengthening family well- being, promoting stability, and supporting healthier communities. In June, SPIRITT proudly celebrated the Youth Room Grand Opening in Whittier and South El Monte. Designed as welcoming spaces for youth to connect, learn, and grow, the rooms feature gaming systems, computers for homework, and opportunities to explore SPIRITT's programs and resources. The celebrations brought youth and families together for food, music, games, raff les, and a fun-filled introduction to these exciting new community spaces.
