HOSPITALITY HOPE Icon Awards Dubai Premiere High in quality, low in price, family run unsung heroes. THE INSIDER GUIDE & DINING DIARY 27 restaurants. Countless stories. Discovered with Rashmi Uday Singh. DUBAI / 2026

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE The idea 02 WELCOME TO THE OTHER SIDE OF DUBAI Beyond the bling. Into the heart. Dubai dazzles. But some of its most extraordinary meals are found in places that quietly get on with feeding people well. A family kitchen. A neighbourhood favourite. A small restaurant whose greatest advertisement is the guest who comes back. Hospitality Hope Icon Awards celebrates these high-quality, low-price, family-run unsung heroes. Independent, self-financed and not-for-profit, the initiative was founded by Rashmi Uday Singh to discover, document and honour people whose contribution to hospitality deserves a wider audience. Three years of Dubai discoveries brought her to tables representing a remarkable range of cultures. The research recorded 38 restaurant visits; this guide brings together the 27 winners celebrated in this edition. There are no paid entries, nomination fees or commercial sponsorships in the initiative's model. Restaurants are personally visited, with owners unaware that they are being considered for recognition. Authenticity, culinary excellence, affordability, value and the dedication of the people behind the food are at the heart of the story. A celebration of the people who nourish a city, one affordable, memorable meal at a time.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE The woman behind the movement 03 FOUNDER / AUTHOR / EXPLORER Rashmi Uday Singh A life spent discovering food. A mission rooted in gratitude. Author of 40 books Food writer & restaurant critic Television host Founder, Hospitality Hope Rashmi Uday Singh has spent decades exploring the world's dining cultures, from celebrated kitchens to the modest restaurants that give a city its character. A pioneer of restaurant guides in India, she also authored the world's first vegetarian guide to Paris. Her studies span journalism, law, management and higher gastronomy at Le Cordon Bleu, Paris. She trained with the BBC in London and has worked across international and Indian television. France honoured her as a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; she has also received multiple Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. For 17 years, she served as a regional chairperson for The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy. Hospitality Hope turns that lifetime of access and discovery towards giving back: using knowledge, relationships and her own savings to help hospitality's quieter stories be seen.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE The journey 04 THREE YEARS IN THE MAKING This is a true insider guide. Rashmi was led to these restaurants by celebrated chefs, hospitality leaders and people with an intimate knowledge of the city's food. They shared more than recommendations. They shared their time, joined her at the table and explained what to order and how to enjoy it. That generosity gives this collection its character. A chef known for an ambitious tasting menu might introduce a favourite biryani. A hospitality insider might take her to a noodle shop. Each encounter opens a door that a visitor might otherwise walk past. The names recorded beside each restaurant acknowledge those introductions. They are part of the discovery story, rather than a list of award presenters or a claim of formal judging responsibility. For Rashmi, Dubai is the most exciting city in the world for cuisines: a place where roughly 200 communities bring their food memories to the table, across an extraordinary range of prices. This guide follows those connections into neighbourhoods, family enterprises and kitchens where everyday excellence is quietly sustained. THE DUBAI PREMIERE 20 October 2026 / ICCA Dubai The first international Hospitality Hope Icon Awards edition, with ICCA - Foodverse.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE What makes it special 05 A DIFFERENT KIND OF RECOGNITION High quality. Low price. Human stories. Conceived by Rashmi as a first-of-its-kind movement, Hospitality Hope brings discovery, personal storytelling and independent recognition together around affordable, family-run restaurants. Dubai is its first awards destination outside India, following the inaugural Mumbai edition in May 2024. The distinction is in the purpose. This is gratitude made practical: visits, filming, stories and recognition funded by the founder, with the ambition of helping deserving restaurants reach people beyond their existing communities. The dining brief is deliberately accessible: a meal around AED 70-100, and often less. It is a way of exploring, rather than a fixed-price offer. What you spend depends on the dishes, portions and branch you choose; seafood by weight and particular steak cuts can cost more. Use the guide as an invitation to talk to the people behind the food. Ask what they are proud of, order thoughtfully and share the discovery. Your next visit, your recommendation and your return can be part of the same generous circle. Planning your visit Call ahead for opening hours, the listed branch, menu availability and current prices. Contact information can change.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE 21 Grams / The story 08 01 / MODERN BALKAN CUISINE 21 Grams THE DISCOVERY A little of the Balkans. A lot of heart. LED RASHMI HERE Olivera Saponjac Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Some restaurants begin with a business plan. Others begin with a longing for home. Founded by Stasha Toncev, with chef Milan Jurkovic, 21 Grams brings the food memories of the Balkans into Dubai's neighbourhood dining life. Its story is one of heritage finding a new address, without losing the warmth that made it worth carrying across borders. The cooking draws on family recipes and familiar comforts: delicate phyllo, feta, honey and grilled cevapi. These are flavours with a history, presented with an easy, contemporary sensibility. For Hospitality Hope, the appeal lies in that connection between personal memory and a generous table. Olivera Saponjac led Rashmi to this Balkan corner of Dubai, where a meal becomes an introduction to a culture.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Al Banoosh / The story 10 02 / EMIRATI & MIDDLE EASTERN SEAFOOD Al Banoosh THE DISCOVERY Dubai, with the sea still in its story. LED RASHMI HERE Chef Faisal Alharmoodi Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Before Dubai became a global dining destination, its relationship with the sea helped shape the way the city ate. Al Banoosh brings that coastal thread into this collection through its Emirati and Middle Eastern seafood identity. It reminds us that discovering Dubai also means looking towards the traditions closest to home. Chef Faisal Alharmoodi led Rashmi here. That introduction is part of what makes this guide personal: a culinary insider opening a door to a place worth knowing. Seafood is a particularly direct expression of the Hospitality Hope idea. The ingredient matters, the cook's judgement matters, and a good meal need not depend on elaborate surroundings. Here, the invitation is to pay attention to the plate and to the people preparing it.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Al Fannah / The story 12 03 / SEAFOOD CUISINE Al Fannah THE DISCOVERY A harbour table worth finding. LED RASHMI HERE Kunal Kapur Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere A fishing harbour offers a different view of Dubai: boats, working waterfronts and meals that keep the sea close. Al Fannah belongs to that quieter culinary landscape. Its setting in Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbour is an essential part of its character, placing seafood at the centre of an unhurried, unpretentious experience. Kunal Kapur led Rashmi to this discovery. The visit brought people together around a table, with the food doing the talking. Al Fannah's place in Hospitality Hope is a reminder that a city's dining identity is also built in modest, much-loved places. These are the tables residents return to, recommend to friends and remember for the pleasure of a meal rather than its ceremony.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Al Farooj / The story 14 04 / ARABIC, LEVANTINE & MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE Al Farooj THE DISCOVERY The shawarma stop on an insider's route. LED RASHMI HERE Chef Solemann Haddad, Moonrise Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Dubai's everyday food culture lives as much in a well-made shawarma as in an elaborate tasting menu. Al Farooj brings that familiar pleasure into the Hospitality Hope collection: regional cooking with immediate appeal, built around the satisfaction of a meal people can enjoy without making an occasion of it. Chef Solemann Haddad of Moonrise led Rashmi to this stop. The restaurant is also known as Shawerma Al Farooj, a useful distinction in a city with several similarly named establishments. It is exactly the kind of introduction that makes an insider guide valuable. Someone who knows the city's kitchens points you towards a favourite, and an ordinary-looking stop becomes a reason to take a different route home.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Al Usthadi / The story 16 05 / IRANIAN & PERSIAN CUISINE Al Usthadi THE DISCOVERY A family table in the memory of a city. LED RASHMI HERE Wander With NADA Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Known more widely as Al Ustad Special Kabab, this Bur Dubai institution has been serving diners since 1978. Founded by Mohammad Ali Ansari, it has witnessed the city grow around it while retaining its connection to Iranian kebabs and the warmth of a family-run restaurant. The story is bigger than the food alone. It is about an immigrant family's enterprise becoming part of Dubai's shared memory: regulars, returning visitors and generations meeting at the same familiar table. Wander With NADA led Rashmi here, adding another personal connection to a restaurant already rich in them. For Hospitality Hope, Al Usthadi embodies continuity. A family preserves a way of welcoming people, and a city makes that welcome part of its own history.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Bait Maryam / The story 18 06 / LEVANTINE & PALESTINIAN CUISINE Bait Maryam THE DISCOVERY Home is a language everyone understands. LED RASHMI HERE Chef Salam Dakkak Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere At Bait Maryam, the idea of home is central to the meal. Chef Salam Dakkak's cooking is rooted in Levantine and Palestinian traditions, where feeding someone is an act of care and the table is a place for sharing. Family memory and culinary identity sit naturally beside one another. Salam herself is the connection in Rashmi's discovery story. Her restaurant gives Hospitality Hope a particularly human expression: recipes carried into a new city, a welcome that crosses nationalities, and food that makes people feel they belong. Dubai's diversity can sometimes be described in numbers. At a table like this, it is felt more personally, in the way one community's familiar flavours become another diner's happy discovery.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Calicut Paragon / The story 20 07 / MALABAR & COASTAL KERALA CUISINE Calicut Paragon THE DISCOVERY A taste of Kerala, carried across the sea. LED RASHMI HERE Chef Vineet Bhatia Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Calicut Paragon's story begins in Kozhikode in 1939 and continues through generations of family stewardship. In Dubai, that inheritance has become a meeting point for people who know Kerala's food intimately and those discovering it for the first time. Its culinary world is one of coastal flavours, biryanis, appams, parottas and curries: food that speaks of Malabar's distinctive traditions. Chef Vineet Bhatia led Rashmi to the restaurant, linking a celebrated culinary voice with an institution sustained by everyday affection. Hospitality Hope recognises that food can do something quietly extraordinary for people living far from home. A familiar flavour can make distance feel smaller, while a generous restaurant can become part of the life of an adopted city.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Caspian Kabab / The story 22 08 / IRANIAN & PERSIAN CUISINE Caspian Kabab THE DISCOVERY The enduring pleasure of a Persian table. LED RASHMI HERE Sunjeh Raja Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Caspian Kabab has served Iranian food in the UAE since 1984. Its story belongs to a longstanding Persian culinary presence in Dubai, shaped by the movement of people, the closeness of the Gulf and the comfort of finding familiar cooking in a new home. Charcoal-grilled kebabs, fragrant rice and traditional preparations give the restaurant its identity. Sunjeh Raja led Rashmi here, bringing the perspective of a culinary educator to a place built on everyday hospitality. For Hospitality Hope, longevity has meaning when it is sustained by people who keep returning. Caspian's inclusion celebrates the knowledge held in independent kitchens and the simple confidence of serving a cuisine with a clear sense of where it comes from.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Falafil / The story 24 09 / MIDDLE EASTERN STREET FOOD Falafil THE DISCOVERY Humble ingredients. Considerable skill. LED RASHMI HERE Chef Mohammad Orfali Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere The pleasure of street food often lies in how much can be achieved with very little: a crisp bite, good bread, a spoonful of hummus, something sharp and fresh alongside. Falafil's recognition celebrates this accessible, deeply familiar part of Middle Eastern food culture. Chef Mohammad Orfali led Rashmi to the restaurant, identified for visitors as Falafil Al Rabiah Al Khadra. That recommendation puts the spotlight on a kind of craft that can be overlooked precisely because it feels so everyday. Hospitality Hope asks us to look again. Affordable food still requires knowledge, care and consistency. A modest meal can hold a community's habits and memories, and a small food business can make an outsized contribution to the pleasure of living in a city.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Hugo Grill / The story 26 10 / ARGENTINIAN STEAKHOUSE CUISINE Hugo Grill THE DISCOVERY Around the grill, a sense of family. LED RASHMI HERE Leen Al Zabel Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Argentinian grilling carries a culture of gathering: time around a fire, food shared generously and a meal that encourages people to stay a little longer. Hugo Grill brings that spirit into Dubai through a restaurant associated with owner Hugo Palacio. Leen Al Zabel led Rashmi to this table. It is a warm, sociable story, in which the people behind the food are central to the experience. Hugo's place in the collection broadens the meaning of Dubai's culinary diversity. Its neighbourhood restaurants carry traditions from across the world, allowing diners to travel through food without leaving the city. Hospitality Hope celebrates the people who make those journeys possible, and the personal commitment behind an independent restaurant with a distinct point of view.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Jai Maharashtra / The story 28 11 / VEGETARIAN MAHARASHTRIAN CUISINE Jai Maharashtra THE DISCOVERY A regional Indian story, warmly told. LED RASHMI HERE Leena Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Indian food is never a single story. Jai Maharashtra brings the vegetarian traditions of Maharashtra into this collection, giving space to a regional identity that deserves to be known on its own terms. It is a reminder that Dubai's Indian dining landscape extends far beyond its most familiar international dishes. Leena led Rashmi here. A table shared with the restaurant team made the discovery personal. Vijay and Yukta Shah are part of the Jai Maharashtra story. Hospitality Hope's recognition honours the role of such places in keeping regional food visible: for people who grew up with it, and for curious diners ready to discover the flavours and habits of a different part of India.

Khoory, also listed as Khoori Special Kabab, adds another distinctive table to that story, with grilled meats, bread and the familiar generosity of a shared meal at its centre. Panchali Mahindra led Rashmi to this discovery. The visit was shaped by company and conversation, giving the discovery a personal character. That is part of the spirit of Hospitality Hope: looking closely at the places that quietly feed a city's communities. Khoory's inclusion draws attention to the knowledge and care behind food people return to for its own sake, and to a culinary tradition that has helped make Dubai the richly layered dining city it is.

HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Kooya / The story 32 13 / FILIPINO CUISINE Kooya THE DISCOVERY A taste of home, shared with the world. LED RASHMI HERE Glen Gawler Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Created by chef JP Anglo and his wife Camille, Kooya Filipino Eatery opened in Dubai Marina in 2022. Its name draws on kuya, the Filipino word for an older brother, an apt starting point for a restaurant whose identity is built around welcome and connection. For Filipinos living abroad, its food offers a link to home. For other diners, it opens a door into a cuisine with a rich regional vocabulary and a generous spirit. Glen Gawler led Rashmi here. The restaurant's place in Hospitality Hope celebrates an independent venture that makes cultural identity visible through food. LED RASHMI HERE Glen Gawler Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere A soft idli or a well-made dosa may appear simple, but the pleasure depends on patient work: fermentation, heat, texture and balance. Little Idli celebrates that everyday intelligence of South Indian vegetarian cooking, the kind of food whose familiarity should never obscure its craft. Glen Gawler led Rashmi to the restaurant, owned by Vaisagh Gopinathan. It is listed publicly as Little Idly, a spelling useful when searching for visitor information. LED RASHMI HERE Chris Guldjian & Nicky Ramchandani Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Maru Udon puts a particular Japanese speciality at the heart of its identity: freshly made udon noodles. The concept began with a small Business Bay restaurant and a focused ambition to make this form of Japanese comfort food accessible in Dubai. Executive chef and partner Shinya Hongo brings his knowledge to the kitchen. The restaurant's appeal lies in the attention given to a seemingly straightforward bowl, supported by tempura, rice dishes and other familiar Japanese preparations. Chris Guldjian and Nicky Ramchandani are the introductions recorded in Rashmi's discovery list. Chef Vikas Khanna led Rashmi to this collective. The three concepts featured here are The Meating Room, OMA and Oriental Dining. Together they bring Indian cooking, desserts, and Singaporean and Malay food into the guide. Hospitality Hope's recognition celebrates more than a place to eat. LED RASHMI HERE Peggy Li Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Chongqing Noodle House, featured here as Noodle House, is a neighbourhood Chinese restaurant in International City with its own story and its own following. Its name is a useful starting point for anyone planning to find this small address. Peggy Li led Rashmi here. The people behind the restaurant and the shared table are at the heart of its Hospitality Hope story. Noodles are among the world's great everyday foods, but their range is immense. HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE Raju Omlet / The story 50 22 / EGG-BASED DISHES Raju Omlet THE DISCOVERY A humble egg, an enterprising idea. LED RASHMI HERE Claudia de Britto Hospitality Hope Icon Awards Dubai Premiere Raju Omlet began in Dubai in 2013 with a focused, playful proposition: build a restaurant around eggs. Developed by Rajiv Meherish and his son Nakul, the idea drew on India's affection for omelettes, bhurji and other richly seasoned egg preparations. Claudia de Britto led Rashmi here. The restaurant's story makes a natural fit for Hospitality Hope because it shows how an everyday ingredient can support a distinctive independent business. Its appeal is direct and accessible, with familiar flavours given a clear identity. This is entrepreneurship at a human scale: an idea pursued with conviction, a family putting its name behind the food, and customers finding pleasure in something that does not need to be complicated to be memorable.

Its origins are modest, its identity unmistakably Pakistani, and its appeal rooted in generous food and the easy familiarity of a neighbourhood institution. Nazli Sonmez and Chef Hadrian led Rashmi to this table. Ravi's significance lies in the way a family restaurant can grow into a shared point of reference for workers, residents and visitors alike. HOSPITALITY HOPE / DUBAI PREMIERE A note from Rashmi 62 WITH GRATITUDE Keep the candle burning. My dearest fellow food lovers, For years, I have had the joy of eating at some of the world's most celebrated tables. But joy has a funny way of finding you where you least expect it: in a tiny restaurant, over a shared plate, in the proud smile of someone who has cooked for you as though you were family. Dubai has given me so many such moments. Behind its dazzle, I found people preserving the flavours of home and making a new home for others. I also found extraordinary generosity in the chefs and friends who took me by the hand, came along, and showed me what I might otherwise have missed. Hospitality Hope is my teeny, little way of saying thank you. The industry has given me love, friendship and deliciousness. Helping these wonderful people be seen gives me more happiness than I can possibly put into words. Please use this little book. Visit. Ask questions. Go back. Take a friend. When you love a meal, tell someone about it. A recommendation may feel small to you; to a family running a restaurant, it can mean so much. I believe we can each light a candle. These pages are mine. I hope your next meal becomes yours. With love, gratitude and deliciousness, Rashmi Uday Singh
