from the editor Greetings dear audience, Welcome to the Vogue Issue for 2025 where creativity meets clothing, where we celebrate not just fashion, but the art of styling as a language of its own because, sty- ling isn’t just about putting on a look; it’s about storytel- ling, mood-setting and transformations. Its about being bold, being unabashedly yourself, all while turning heads for your amazing sense of style. This issue is for the dreamers who want to begin lear- ning how to style themselves but don’t know where to start or are having trouble finding their fashion calling. From journeying through red carpet creations to re-en- visioning them in one’s own way, this highlights the true essence of styling; one in which we explore more and more to be the best versions of our own selves, ins- tead of hiding under comfort. The Met Gala is more than a red carpet; it’s a runway of imagination, a celebration of style as spectacle, and a reminder that clothing can be pure fantasy. This grand event inspired me to look beyond my boring closet, and showed me that anything can be transformed into the perfect outfit when it is styled right. That is why I have chosen to use some of the best years/themes of the met gala to try and challenge myself in styling. Through this journey, we can see just how much trends have changed over 6 decades and how each one has brought its own flair into the fashion world and inspired millions. It inspired me to try and add functionality to the themes while also honoring their integrity. “Fashion is art and you are the canvas.” 3
Fashion, to me, has always been more than fabric stitched together, it’s an emotion, a declaration of identity, and at times, a quiet rebellion. What started as an admiration for celebrity looks on glossy magazine pages soon evolved into a desire to experiment, to understand the art behind what makes an outfit work. Styling, I realized, isn’t about wearing something expensive or trendy; it’s about expressing what words sometimes fail to say: confidence, curiosity, and creativity. Each theme I’ve chosen from past Met Gala years is not merely about replicating a look, but about interpreting it, making it my own and creating comfortable outfits, while paying homage to the era. From the extravagant opulence of “Glamorous Hollywood Costume Design” to the daring extravagance of “Gardens of Time”, every theme carries a story, a mood, and a message. These reinterpretations serve as a reminder that style is deeply personal, yet universally inspiring. Over six decades, the world of fashion has transformed, silhouettes have evolved, gender norms have blurred, and the boundaries between couture and streetwear have faded. Yet, one thing remains constant: the desire to express oneself through what we wear. Each generation has used fashion as a mirror of its cultural moment, from the structured elegance of the 1960s, the rebellious punk aesthetics of the 1970s, the power suits of the 1980s, to the experimental, inclusive spirit of today’s era. Through recreating and restyling some of the most memorable looks inspired by these moments, I found myself discovering not only fashion’s versatility but also my own. It taught me that style isn’t about perfection, it’s about evolution. Every experiment, whether successful or not, is a step closer to understanding one’s own aesthetic voice. So, as you flip through these pages, I hope you find inspiration to embrace your individuality. She had always been the girl who blended into the background. Her everyday wardrobe was simple: semi formal blouses, four pairs of jeans and for an occasional pop of color-a casual sundress. And that was it, her entire world revolving around a compact comfortable lifestyle to the point where she didn’t even bother to accessorize or put on even light makeup. She didn’t mind. She wasn’t trying to impress anyone. But one afternoon while sprawled across her college desk, she came across a post showcasing looks from the recent Met Gala. She was so fascinated by how every single outfit was unique in its own way, when styled on the celebrities it came to life- like it was living breathing fashion. She dreamed of looking even half as sophisticated as the people she saw on the screen. It wasn’t just the clothes; it was the narrative, the commitment to transformation, and the sheer audacity of self-expression that captivated her. The Met Gala wasn’t merely a red carpet; it was an annual moment of high-stakes, artistic risk. For the first time, her comfortable, compact world felt muted, almost colorless, next to the vibrant spectacle on her screen. She dreamed of looking even half as sophisticated as the people she saw. The initial intrigue morphed into a quiet, almost secret obsession. She started studying the posts, analyzing silhouettes, dissecting how makeup contributed to a theme, and noting the confidence radiated by the wearers. 7
8 In an era of relentless maximalism, this look champions the quiet confidence of the everyday uniform. The foundation is built on practical comfort: a loose-fitting olive green collared blouse that offers an immediate sense of relaxed ease. This top is paired with charcoal gray, straight-leg trousers, providing a grounding, neutral anchor that transitions seamlessly between casual and semi-formal settings. The outfit’s function- al spirit is underlined by classic white athletic sneakers, prioritizing all-day comfort over trend-driven statements. Accessories are minimal but intentional: a silver pen- dant necklace and simple gold bangle bracelets introduce a gentle shimmer. The look is utterly low-maintenance. Hollywood Costume Design (1974) 9
On December 9, 1974, the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art gleamed with stardust. Inside, the Met Gala unfurled under the theme “Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design,” a tribute to the silver screen’s golden age, kept to honour recent blockbuster films. Films like The Wizard of Oz inspired many designers by their fantasyesque costume designs and styling. I have taken inspiration from the film “Wizard of Oz” and styled my outfit in a way that mimics a part of the main character Dorothy, keeping in mind the style and fashion that’s flourishing in this decade. When I think of Dorothy, I think about the classic and iconic blue gingham dress that she wore throughout the film which might look like a really simple dress, but when styled right and paired with accessories, it turns into the most elegant outfit that will turn heads at every occasion. 10
The most crucial tra nsformation lies in the footwear. D o r o t h y ’ s legendary red ruby slippers are reimagined as simple, ballet flats in the iconic color. For jewelry, I chose a dramatic, chunky silver pendant necklace,reminisces from the “Tin Man” paired with the trademark dorothy hairstyle- t w o braids. More on accessories, a pearl bead bracelet and a gold watch has been styled to fit my theme: everyday outfits. To match the edgy trends of todays generation, i paired the dress with dark blue jeans which complements the light blue gingham and brings out a more refined modern look. The makeup done is mostly to bring focus to the hairstyle and accessories and to match the colors of the outfit, i have gone with a smoky eye and blue glittery eyeshadow with a pink lip combination, all tied together with blue nailpolish to keep the matching theme of blues. Speaking of the scenery, the photoshoot has been done in a park to fit the outdoorsy theme of both the magazine and the character we see in the movie. 11

The next decade that we come upon in our journey is the 1980s, a decade filled with vibrant colors, boldness and creativity. In search of a mix of creativity and tradition, I came across the theme of the Met Gala for the year 1985: “Costumes of Royal India”. This theme pays tribute to Indian handcrafted textiles and the embroidery and ornamentation used on these vibrant cloths. Rich brocades, intricate zardozi embroidery, and cascading silks swept through the galleries like a moving mosaic. The 1980s silhouette- broad-shouldered, structured, and unapologetically dramatic, found its perfect match in the regal excess of Indian textiles. Designers seized the opportunity to merge power dressing with historical romance, resulting in breathtaking saris tailored with sharp, almost architectural shoulder pads, and velvet evening coats lined with glittering kundan work. Everywhere one looked, a different region’s heritage was on display: from the delicate mirror work of Gujarat flashing under the chandeliers to the heavy, textured Banarasi silks sourced from Varanasi. This gala was not just a celebration of fashion; it was a dazzling, high-octane cultural exchange, perfectly capturing the decade’s love for global inspiration and extravagant splendor. 13
When I think of the theme “ Costumes of Royal India” I immediately think of the classic saree that has been passed down for decades This look is an ode to refined femininity, blending the shimmer of contemporary metallics with the grace of traditional attire. The foundation is a gorgeous lavender/dusty mauve saree. The pairing of the muted metallic saree with the bright turquoise-tone blouse brings out its personality. The look maintains a delicate balance between ornate and minimal. The jewelry is kept simple, with a beaded pearl necklace, diamond earrings and with a complementing stack of lavender and mint colored bangles on the wrist. The choice of silver embellished ballet flats grounds the look. With soft waves and a natural, dewy makeup look with matching mauve and green eye makeup, this styling proves that Indian tradition, when handled with a modern eye, is the ultimate form of romantic, sophisticated glamour. 14
15 The top, a long-sleeved knit in black scattered with vibrant magenta stars, acts as the central print, instantly setting a high-contrast, energetic tone reminiscent of late ‘90s pop-punk graphics. This playful darkness is dramatically counterbalanced by the bottom half: a voluminous, flared scarlet red skater skirt. The rock element is cemented by the outerwear, a classic black faux-leather or denim jacket draped effortlessly over the shoulder. Paired with the short skirt are opaque black knee-high socks, an iconic ‘90s grunge and schoolgirl uniform staple that adds crucial visual depth. These lead down to chunky black lace-up ankle boots with a practical block heel, solidifying the outfit’s rock-n-roll credentials while offering a comfortable, grounded edge. The makeup features strong, dark eyebrows and a subtle yet defined red eye makeup look with a white waterline, evoking the effortless cool of ‘90s rock heroines along with aviators that truly embody “rock style”. The hair is styled in bubble braids and subtle waves, adding to the youthful, rebellious aesthetic. The accessories are minimal yet impactful: large silver hoop earrings and a statement red heart pendant necklace all tied together with black nailpolish.
As the world braced for the new millennium, the Met Gala of 1999 turned its gaze to the rebels who had defined the last fifty years. With the theme “Rock Style,” the gala broke from tradition, trading tiaras and trains for leather, studs, and swagger. It was a celebration of the wild, genre-defying marriage between fashion and rock ‘n’ roll. It was a celebration of major rockstars like Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, David Bowie etc. The 1999 Met Gala didn’t just close a century, it celebrated the noise, rebellion, and raw creativity that defined it And it echoed long after the last riff faded. To mimic the rebellious and edgy style of the rock era, I have chosen to use elements from both outfits from the Met Gala and inspiration from the trends of that era such as leather jackets, embellished shirts, heavy boots a n d used colors symbolic to the era such as red, white and black. 16 Rock Style (1999)

19 The night of May 5, 2008, was electric with imagination. Beneath the grand columns of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala transformed into a world of strength, spectacle, and cinematic fantasy. The theme? “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.” And for once, fashion wasn’t just about beauty, it was about power. The red carpet shimmered like the pages of a comic book, with guests channelling the drama and daring of masked crusaders. Designers were inspired by the classic super hero movies we see on screen like Superman, Catwoman etc. Superwoman was my inspiration for this look, I have tried to reflect the flair and power that can be seen through her supersuit and her commanding presence in my own way through things I found in my closet. Using the primary colors red,blue and yellow, which are reflective of the color palette used for her supersuit.

In 2016, the Met Gala truly broke new ground, presenting a theme that dared to look beyond tradition and into the technological horizon: “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” Curated by Andrew Bolton, this exhibition wasn’t just about futuristic fabrics; it was a profound exploration of the fascinating dichotomy between haute couture’s handcrafted artistry (“manus”) and the precision of machine-made fashion (“machina”). The red carpet became a canvas for this complex dialogue. Celebrities embraced the challenge with breathtaking interpretations, showcasing everything from intricate laser-cut designs and 3D-printed embellishments to garments woven with fiber optics and LED lights. Think Claire Danes’ stunning Cinderella gown by Zac Posen, which glowed in the dark, or Sarah Jessica Parker’s custom Monse ensemble, a deconstructed take on 18th-century menswear with a distinctly modern edge. Beyond the spectacle, the theme asked a crucial question: where does human touch end and technological advancement begin in the creation of beauty? The result was a night that not only celebrated innovation but also underscored the enduring craftsmanship that remains at the heart of fashion, even as it speeds into the future. It was a sartorial glimpse into the next frontier. 22
The foundation is a midi length black dress, completely covered in sequins. Layered over this luminescence is a black blazer to give it the structured feel that the outfits had in the 2016 Met Gala while also giving a subtle nod to the theme of wearability and functionality of outfits. The blazer is hand bedazzled with sequined stars and hearts to give it a flashy look to fit the metallic nature of the theme. . The darkness of the top layers is contrasted sharply by the streamlined silver shimmery leggings below. Accessories include diamond shaped sunglasses, providing an element of mysterious, futuristic cool. The hair is styled in structured space buns with thin braids, a playful, engineered shape, while the makeup is bold and defined, ensuring the face is as striking as the coded outfit. All of this is paired with metallic mirrorball-like earrings, a silver charm braelet with stars and a diamond necklace. A metallic faux leather purse is added for functionality and the look is tied together with sequined ballet flats. 23

25 The 2024 Met Gala transported us into a realm where transient beauty met enduring artistry, celebrating the theme “The Garden of Time.” Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s poignant short story, this year’s sartorial journey invited guests to interpret the delicate balance between fleeting beauty and the relentless march of time, specifically as it unfolds within a decaying garden. The red carpet blossomed with breathtaking interpretations. We witnessed ethereal gowns adorned with pressed flowers and intricate botanical embroidery, symbolizing nature’s cyclical rebirth. Designers masterfully integrated delicate lace, antique fabrics, and handcrafted embellishments, breathing new life into forgotten aesthetics. Others opted for more conceptual approaches, with garments featuring “decaying” elements or subtly integrated clockwork motifs, reflecting the theme’s melancholic undertones. The evening wasn’t just a display of exquisite fashion; it was a poetic meditation on ephemerality, preservation, and the eternal bloom of creativity. Each ensemble told a story, a fragile whisper of beauty against the backdrop of time’s ceaseless passage.

The core piece is a maxi-length tiered dress, with intricate lace detailing that suggests the delicate, complex structures found in nature and antique textiles. The dress is layered over a puff-sleeved white peasant blouse, whose voluminous sleeves and high neckline hark back to Victorian or early 20th-century romanticism. Accessories include handmade elf- resembling earcuffs, pearl and bead bracelets and necklace in nature colors and traditional Indian earrings in the same earthy tones. Black lace up boots are added to give a more modern feel to the look. The makeup is kept minimal with accentuated blush and berry- lip colors. This look brings the mystical feel of the theme while embodying comfortable everyday wear.
