CambodiaFrom the Principal’s Desk NAIDOC week bring focus to Firsts Nations culture and is important annual celebration here at MSHS. this year’s activities included a smoking ceremony, Indigenous games and a poetry reading. His a great opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and we really oved sharing this evenrt with students from our locan riming schools. The 2026 humanitarian trip to Cambodia was an unbelievable experience . From walking around Angkor Wat, to providing students with a chance to learn more about the incredible culture and history of Cambodia, it was amazing to see the growth of all the students on the trip. They showed dedication while working together towards the one project, pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and making the most of every opportunity.Good news! Maroochydore State High School is getting a major upgrade to the front entrance and bus bay area. 🚧Construction period: Mid-September 2026 - January 2027 💰Project cost: $2.4 million What's changing? ✅ A new road ramp to provide easier access to the school lower car park. ✅ A larger bus bay area so buses can park parallel for student drop-off and pick-up. ✅ A new bus turning roundabout to improve traffic flow. The upgrades will: Improve safety for students, staff, and visitors by separating pedestrians, cyclists, cars, and buses. Improve traffic flow around the school and on Maroochydore Road. Once completed, the new entrance and bus facilities will make getting to and from school safer and easier for everyone.
Academics MAROOCHY MOMENTS Debating Week 2 of the term, we had many students interested in debating attend the debating bonanza at Sunshine Coast Grammar. The day consisted of workshops where students got to better understand debating and how they could play a part in their team, and ended with practice debates against other schools. We look forward to seeing our team compete this term starting week 5! Telstra Mayor’s Leadership Masterclass Led by Lachie Smart, the masterclass was a full day workshop where students were able to build on the foundations explored in Future Entrepreneurial Leaders. Throughout the day, students explored how ideas, decisions and behaviors create real impact in teams, communities and future careers. Keep your eyes peeled for the information for the next one! Leadership The badge ceremony was held for those who got selected as leaders for our school! Congratulations to all our new leaders and hope to see many apply next year. Readers Cup The school hosted the interschool readers cup competition for the first time and the MSHS team came 14th place out of 21 schools. They read 5 great new books written by Australian authors and then had to compete in a series of rounds answering questions on them. ISSUE 02 / TERM 2 -3 2026 ISSUE 2 TERM 2 - 3 The Arts Building Friendships Across Cultures Our Year 10 Japanese class had the pleasure of welcoming students from Tezukayama High School for a fun cultural exchange. Students introduced themselves through icebreaker questions and the game "Who Am I?" before collaborating in mixed teams to build the tallest straw-and-tape Tokyo Tower in 15 minutes. Students completed these challenges with laughter, teamwork and creative problem-solving. It was wonderful to see Australian and Japanese students connecting and forming new friendships. The lesson was a fantastic reminder that communication, collaboration and laughter can bring people together across cultures. Fanfare Over four fantastic days, Maroochydore SHS proudly showcased eight ensembles at the fanfare festival, demonstrating their musical growth, ensemble skills and teamwork. Well done to all participating students for their hard work and commitment. A special shout-out to our ensembles who received Platinum Awards: Concert Band, Stage Band, Jazz Band Results: Verde Strings – Gold, Cygnus Strings – Silver, Concert Band – Platinum, Symphonic Winds – Gold, Cello Ensemble – Silver, Percussion Ensemble – Gold, Stage Band – Platinum, Jazz Band – Platinum Sporting OzTag All Schools Over the weekend of the 24/7 to the 26/7 we had six teams compete in the OzTag All Schools. Our year 7 and year 11 boys both made it through on to QFs and our year 11 girls came up against Creek in the grand final. With only one sub they put on a valiant effort only going down in extra time. Millie Murray (from the year 11 girls' team) was named MVP for the year 11 girls division! Monday Night Netball End of last term we finished off the netball season with some incredible results! In total we had 8 teams, ranging from years 7 - 12. In the end we had 6 of the 8 teams make it to semi finals, from there, 4 teams into the grand final. We wrapped up the season with 2 runners up and 2 winners! Before School Fitness training Come on down to the Fitness Club every Wednesday morning at 7.30am. Any student or staff member is able to come down to the top oval where we participate in some physical activity for around 30 minutes. STEM in Space WebinarStudents across many year levels joined a space engineer in America for a deep dive into the James Webb Telescope. The online webinar explored the essential contributions of science, engineering and international collaboration that was needed to turn this visionary mission into reality and the groundbreaking discoveries it is built to make.Cabin Crew ExperienceIn week 4, 15 students from years 10 -12 spent the day at Aviation Australia in Brisbane, on a cabin crew experience day. They learnt all about pathways into the aviation industry and got to participate in some of the safety training that is a key aspect of the role, such as evacuating using the emergency slides and deploying the safety rafts onto water.AEROSPACE Pacific Airshow More than 20 students had the opportunity to attend the Pacific Airshow in the Gold Coast. As a part of the Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program, students had access to the Young Aviator Zone where they engaged with industry representatives, explored a range of aircraft and had front row seats to the flight displays of Australia's largest airshow.
