Short Story (Prose) Title: “Mass Errol’s Guava Tree” Grade level: 4-6 Derron would snicker around until Mass Errol is gone to purchase goods for his little shop. Whenever the coast is clear Derron would slip under the fence for some of the pink juicy guavas on mass Errol’s tree. Tough he knew it was wrong; he couldn’t resist so he would climb the tree with his little blue bag picking and chugging one guava after the other. In the middle of devouring one of the mouthwatering, pink eye-catching guavas. He heard a loud yell, Derron!!!That’s the voice of mama Poco he taught to himself he took one big leap and landed on the floor running two hundred miles per hour to his grandmother. As he approaches his house Mama Poco was standing outside hitting the belt against her hip mumbling under her breath “naughty naughty boy I will give you something as sweet as those guavas you won’t stop stealing.”
One-Act-Drama Title: A Balanced Diet Grade Level: 1-3 Dian: “What should I eat today?” Rob: “I have snickers, chicken nuggets and fries. Would you like some?” Pene:” Me, me, I love snickers they are my favorite and the nuggets I love those with sauce.” Rob: “oh really? My mommy always gets them for me you can have some. Dian, would you like some too?” Dian: “Absolutely not! I don’t want to get fat and die fast. I will eat my yogurt and banana.” Rob & Pene: “What’s the problem? It’s still food (looking frustrated).” Dian: “When Spreckley comes ill ask her to tell you about healthy vs unhealthy foods.” Rob &Pene: “Okayyy.”
Poem Title: “The White Hair Man” Grade level:1-4 Have you ever heard of the white hair man? He wraps his hair with a blue turban. He rides around on a old bicycle. Whenever you see him run if you fear to be tickled. He is very scary and tall with is eyes moving up and down like a bouncing ball. In the morning, he sits on top of the hill in his chair. Singing, “oh I wish someone would brush my hair.” Don’t be tricked it’s all a part of his plan. To take your souls and send you to the forbidden land.
As soon as the day darkens you must hurry on home. Unless you want him to capture you with is three tooth comb. Don’t be afraid if you here a knock at night. Keep your bible in your sight, the white hair man is now in town spread the word all around.
Reflection This portfolio consists of five pieces (5) three of which were originally written by me and two that I found from a credible source. Though this was portfolio was done as a coursework it has helped me to realize that as aspiring teachers not every time we need to use pieces accumulated from online sources to facilitate our lesson but we can take a few minutes to write our own. This will also help us to write pieces that the students can relate to and which is more inclined with the lesson being taught. My first piece titled “Mass Errol’s Guava Tree” is a story from my very own childhood, Mr. Errol was really a shop keeper who had a two beautiful guava tree that we could not resist so even though we were told not to pick from his tree we still did. On the other hand, this short story will help to transport the readers straight into a familiar scene of picking from a family or friends fruit tree which would help to spark conversation as it triggers the readers nostalgia of their childhood .The scolding that “Derron” in the story got would also contribute to what was stated above .In a classroom context this story can be used to teach students what can happen when they are rebellious and the guilt of taking what us nit rightfully theirs. My second and third pieces a poem and a one cat drama can be used to begin lessons this will have students engaged for the lesson that follows the poem can be read by the teacher/ student to have a engaging session where the class discussion flows .While, the one act dama the teacher can have students role play with flash card that contains what they are expected to say and this can be followed by a class discussion to hear the different perspectives and to see whether or not students can relate to what was read which would help the lesson to be more effective .
In conclusion I really had fun writing these pieces and for the ones that I retrieved from online sources I found that they are very simple and student friendly they don’t use words that will have the students confused buy rather the word were very simple and that is exactly what I was looking for so that these pieces would be interesting and students will always be eager to see what I have in store for the next class.
