PROJECT 1 - NARA GRIYANARA GRIYANARA GRIYA Location Site Area Year Project type Supervisor Nara Griya was my first housing project, where I selected the site myself in Puri, West Jakarta, considering both the neighborhood and the users. The house was designed for three generations, each with different hobbies and lifestyles. I also considered the area's multicultural character and upper- middle-income community as part of my design approach. This project allowed me to explore how different interests and needs could be translated into a home that brings three generations together. Puri, West Jakarta 259,26 2024 Housing Ar. PROJECT 1 - NARA GRIYANARA GRIYANARA GRIYA Nara Griya is a contemporary residential project in West Jakarta, designed for three generations living together within a gated neighborhood. The main challenge was accommodating the distinct needs, lifestyles, and hobbies of residents from different generations. The house incorporates synthetic rattan as a secondary skin to reduce direct sunlight and enhance the façade, while a large void promotes natural ventilation. The Jengki roof reflects the residents’ Betawi heritage while responding to the local climate, creating a home that balances functionality, comfort, and cultural identity. PROJECT 3 - LEMBAYUNGLEMBAYUNGLEMBAYUNG Location Site Area Year Project type Supervisor Lembayung is a public project focused on designing a theater in a busy area surrounded by residential neighborhoods and schools. The design responds to the surrounding context by considering noise control, ensuring that activities inside the theater remain undisturbed while minimizing noise impacts on nearby residents. This was especially important due to Jalan Pangeran Antasari, a major arterial road with heavy traffic, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. PROJECT 3 - LEMBAYUNGLEMBAYUNGLEMBAYUNG Section A-A Lembayung is a theater design project located in an urban area surrounded by residential neighborhoods and schools. The site features a 6-meter downward slope from the main road and an organic shape that narrows toward its end. The design approach translates the site's natural geometry into the building's massing, adapts spatial functions to the existing topography, and incorporates local cultural elements and performance characteristics to create a contextually responsive theater that reflects the area's cultural identity. PROJECT 4 - PETALS OF BETAWIPETALS OF BETAWIPETALS OF BETAWI The project aims to develop a neighborhood-scale park in a densely populated area near the river, enhancing the surrounding area's value while preserving its historical connection to Henk Ngantung's former residence. The design encourages community involvement in park maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability. Beyond providing green open space, the park also promotes local economic growth through urban farming, creating opportunities for residents to cultivate, sell, and benefit from locally grown produce. DESIGN PROCESSDESIGN PROCESSDESIGN PROCESSMYAt this stage, I focus on identifying and classifying the target users based on key demographic factors, including age, gender, lifestyle, specific needs, and spatial requirements. To establish a clear understanding of the intended users, I refer to demographic data, relevant research, and the requirements provided in the project brief. This process helps me understand user characteristics, identify their activities and priorities, and translate their needs into appropriate spatial programs and design considerations. User Needs1 Precedent2 At this stage, I conduct precedent studies to explore architectural references based on building functions, site context, spatial organization, and design approaches. I typically analyze 3–7 precedents to gain a comprehensive understanding of how different projects address similar design challenges. The study covers spatial layouts, room functions, circulation patterns, structural systems, material choices, and architectural concepts. These findings help me identify relevant strategies and design principles that can be adapted to the project, ensuring that the proposed design is both functional and responsive to its context. Programming & Zoning4 At this stage, I establish the project’s spatial program and develop zoning strategies across the site, both horizontally and vertically. I also define relationships and adjacencies between spaces, organize circulation flows, and estimate room dimensions based on their functions, capacity, and user requirements. This process helps create an efficient spatial arrangement that responds to the site context and the project’s design objectives. Site Analysis3 At this stage, I conduct a more detailed site analysis and visit the site directly to gain a deeper understanding of its surrounding context, including accessibility, circulation, environmental conditions, surrounding functions, and urban characteristics. These observations help me evaluate the site's potential and constraints, determine its relationship with the surrounding area, and select a suitable site that aligns with the building's function and design objectives. Massing Development & Layout Planning5 At this stage, I evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different massing alternatives while exploring architectural ideas, including façade design, building orientation, and environmental responses. I develop several massing options for comparison and further evaluation, using physical models and 3D modeling in SketchUp to visualize the forms, assess their spatial qualities, and determine the most suitable design direction for the project. The architectural design process is inherently iterative, involving continuous revisions and back-and-forth adjustments to achieve the best possible outcome. Therefore, the stages presented here represent a simplified, linear overview of the design process, while in practice, each stage may overlap and require revisiting previous steps to refine and improve the overall design. 10 October 2026myjeart.myjeart.myjeart.jeamichella23@gmail.comjeamichella23@gmail.comjeamichella23@gmail.com085850577290085850577290085850577290
