30 THE POCKET HOUSE4.Situated in Mississauga, the Pocket House is a tiny house project that investigates how compact architecture can deliver high performance, comfort, and spatial quality within a minimal footprint. The design responds to increasing urban density and the demand for affordable, efficient housing by prioritizing intelligent space planning and purposeful simplicity. A restrained material palette, integrated storage, and multi functional elements work together to maximize usability while maintaining a sense of openness. Strategic placement of openings enhances natural light and ventilation, reinforcing the project’s passive design approach and reducing environmental impact. The Pocket House demonstrates how thoughtful architectural decisions can transform small scale living into a refined, livable experience that addresses contemporary urban challenges with clarity and design integrity.

36 The Mulberry Suite Project5.Located in Burlington, the Mulberry Suite Project is a residential renovation focused on transforming an underutilized basement into a safe, functional, and code compliant secondary rental unit. The client’s goal was to create an independent living space that supports rental use while maintaining comfort, privacy, and integration with the existing home. The design reconfigured the basement layout to accommodate essential residential functions, including a sleeping area, kitchenette, washroom, and living space, while addressing natural light access, egress requirements, and building code considerations. Careful attention was given to ceiling heights, fire separation, ventilation, and sound insulation to ensure both safety and livability. Through efficient planning and thoughtful detailing, the project demonstrates how adaptive reuse within an existing structure can add value, functionality, and long term flexibility to a home while meeting the practical demands of secondary suite living.
