Introduction StoneyfordCommunityCentreoperatesasanecessary cornerstoneforthetownwithintheruralCountyKilkenny setting.Theoriginalstructure,builttoprovideforthe developmentofcommunityfacilitiesinthearea,provides thepointofdepartureforthisthesisinarchitecture.Itis intendedtolookagainattheprojectwithinthescopeofits architecturalexpansionforthemodernera. Assuch,thisdesignapproachinvolvestheintroductionofAssuch,thisdesignapproachinvolvestheintroductionof aninnovativearchitecturalextensionoftheexisting structurethatwouldbringaboutrenewedvitalityforthe publicfacility.Byanalysingthelimitationsoftheexisting hall,amulti-purposegatheringareaisintroducedto seamlesslyconnectthebuiltenvironmentwiththe surroundingnaturalenvironment. TheinteractionbetweenthepastandpresentiscapturedTheinteractionbetweenthepastandpresentiscaptured throughmaintainingthemainentrypointoftheold masonrybuildingandallowingtheadditiontoextend outwardontothesite.Thespacearrangementmakesthe buildingconducivefortheflow ofpeoplebecauseof reconsiderationofhowthecommunityengageswiththe buildingonaday-to-daybasis.Throughthebuilding design,thearchitecturemediatesinrecognisingthe historyofthesitewhilesettingupanagendaforthefuture. Withemphasisonabsolutestructurallegibility,thestudio projectusesstructuralsteelasthemedium ofexpression forthenewextension.Structuralsteelwaschosen becauseofitsprecisioningeometryandtectonics,aswell asforitsuniqueabilitytoconstructopen-spanvolumes filledwithlight,juxtaposedtotheheavyandsolidmasses ofmasonryoftheoriginalcommunitycentrebuilding. Inthiscase,thechoiceofthematerialisaclearInthiscase,thechoiceofthematerialisaclear embodimentoftheMiesian"lessismore"principle.The structuralsteelframeformstheperipheryofthespace whileprovidingmaximum flexibilityoftheinteriorprogram. Usingslendersteelcolumnsandanexpressedroofplane, thestructurecreatesanextremelytransparentand minimalisticrelationshipwiththesurroundingcontext. SuchatectonicapproachistransferredtothedesignoftheSuchatectonicapproachistransferredtothedesignofthe connections,wheretheassemblingoftheelements accentuatesthelightnessoftheframe.Theunique strengthpropertiesofthematerialenablecreationoflarge expansesofglazingthatbringampleamountsofnatural lightinside,thuserasingtheborderbetweentheinternal communalspacesandtheoutside.

ThisismysitemodelmadeinRevitfortheprojectit includes,contours,drainage,siteaccess,neighbouring dwellingsandplanting.Thesitemodelisextremely importantforstartignRevitprojectsasyouhavetotake intothelocationofthesiteandlinkyourothermodelsto thesitemodel.UsingISO 19650standards,wehadto gettheexactcoordinatesofthesitesoourmodelwould bethesameasreallife.Wethenhavetouse topographicsurveystogettheslopeofthesite. Thankfullyforthisprojectweweregiventhe.dwgthat wascompletedbythequantitysurveyorwhichmadeit mucheasiertostartthisproject.Thiswasthecoreto startingthisprojectinrelationto3D modellingthe communitycentre.

TheimagesontheisillustratetheworkIproducedin Revitofthecourseofthesemesterintermsofmy Architecturalmodelandlinkingitintomystructural model.Theextensiontotheexistingbuildingincludesa moremoderntodesigntoasmallvillagelike Stoneyford.ItusesanewStantatimbercladdingonthe groundfloorandStantazinccladdingonthefirstfloor. TheNorth-Westelevationaboveshowsoffthenew claddingswhileaddingloadsofnew glazing,sliding doorsandshowstheamountofnaturallightgettinginto thebuildingsnewextenion.TheNorth-Eastelevation showsthedifferentlevelsinvolvedbewtweenthe existingbuildingandthenew extension. Thenew floorplansdesignedaddalotofnewrooms andspacesforthecommunitycentre.Ontheground floorwehaveateaprepforthemainhallwhenevents areheld,ameetingroom forsmallerAGMs,areception area,aliftforaccessibiltytothefirstfloorand2store rooms.Thedemolitionofpartoftheexistingbuilding alsoimprovedtoiletfacilitiesandaddedanaccessible babychangingroom.Onthefirstfloorwehaveanother accessiblebabychangingroom,2officespacesanda multipurposeroom whichalsooverhangstheextended groundfloorasshownintheNorth-Eastelevation.The improvementtocommunitycentremakesitabetter spaceforaccessibiltyandworkflow.

ThisPublicationillustratessomeofmyplans,elevations anddetailsthaticreatedthroughoutmystudioprojectof StoneyfordCommunityCentre.Ithighlightsthejounrey thatwasneededtocreateacompletesetoftender drawingswhichwasrequiredforourstudiobrief.From creating4differentmodelincluding,site,structural, architecturalandMEPtoinsertingdatafrom NBSto createaBIM 3DModelofarealworldprojectgavea betterunderstandingtomeoftheconstructionworkflow process. HavingstartedwithabasicsitemodelwhichrequiredmeHavingstartedwithabasicsitemodelwhichrequiredme touseatopographicsurveytocreatethesitecontours andITM coordinatestofindthesitesrealworldlocationin myprojectdata.Ithenmovedintomynew architectural modelwhichrequiredmetouseourlecturersexisting buildingdrawingsthecreatetheoldbuildingstructureand asetofdrawingsthatwouldberequiredatplanningstage. Movingonfrom thisIhadtocreateasetofdemolition drawingsasitillustrateshow anexistingbuildingcanbe modifiedforimprovementwithouttheneedtostartfrom squareone.Afterthedemolitiondrawingswerecompleted Ithenstartedthinkingofthestructureofmynew extension,aswewererequiredtousesteelIusedanew modeltoshowthisstructureandwerequiredtocreate anothersetofplanningstagedrawingsforthisnew extensionsstrutureonly.Ithenhadtolookattheextensionsstrutureonly.Ithenhadtolookatthe architecturalaspectofthenew extensionwhichrequired metolinkmymodelstogetherandseehow caniwork wihtthestructureIhavemade.Thisincludedmytechnical details,producinganew setoftenderdrawingswhich includedschedules,room datasheetstocomplywith governmentregulationsandmostimportantlyanimproved buildingdesign.OnceIhadcompletedthiswestartedto dosomeMEPmodellinginanew modelfortheextension. Asweranoutoftimeduringthesemesterweonlydid drawingsforsoils&wasteandheatingbutitgavemea betterunderstandingofhow deep3D modellingcango. Formystudioprojectinthirdyear,thecontinuationofa new building,likeStoneyfordCommunityCentrewillbe usingNavisworkswhichwilllookatclashdetection betweenpipework.OverallIwasproudofhow myproject turnedoutandIcannotwaittocontinuesomethingsimilar inthirdyear.inthirdyear.
