Culture Night Cavan 2026 is the official programme booklet for the county's participation in the national Oíche Chultúir festival on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. The programme opens with events on Culture Night Eve, Thursday 17 September. Blessings Bar in Cavan town hosts a film double bill featuring 'The Cure' by Butlersbridge filmmaker Sean Connolly and 'The Lacey Way' by Regina de Faoite. A Pop-Up Gaeltacht at the same venue from 8.30pm encourages conversational Irish for all levels. A lunchtime Pop-Up Gaeltacht also takes place at Market Square from 1.00pm to 2.00pm.
On Friday 18 September, outdoor activities begin at 3.00pm at Cavan Courthouse Railings with an interactive artwork by Marilyn Gaffney where visitors can add stories and tie ribbons. Anna Wiercioch's recycled paper and textile installation runs from 4.00pm to 11.00pm. The giant bird puppet Mrs Polly Bubblebeak roams the streets from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Street Life at Townhall Arts Centre Car Park from 5.30pm features two outdoor shows.
Indoor events include an Afternoon of Literature at Johnston Central Library from 4.00pm to 6.00pm with Windows editors Heather Brett and Noel Monahan and the Windows 2026 Student Poetry Prize winners. Workshops at The Conaty Centre include a Breath, Sound Bath and Stone Art session with Sharon Mundy from 6.00pm to 8.00pm and a Restorative Dance Workshop with Fiona Flynn from 4.00pm to 5.30pm. The Ukrainian Centre hosts a Celtic-Ukrainian art and dessert event from 4.00pm to 8.00pm.
Evening performances include a multicultural event at Farnham Arms Hotel from 6.30pm with NYAH Cavan, the Association of Ukrainians in Ireland, Music Generation Youth Choir, the Latvian Association and Gaelphobal an Chabháin. The Townhall Arts Centre presents 'Visceral'22 Remastered' physical theatre at 8.00pm and an art exhibition 'Sometimes You Just Want To...' by Ben Reilly at 7.00pm.
