Fire Safety & Emergency Evacuation South Staffordshire College is committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for staff, students, visitors and contractors by minimising and managing the risks associated with fire and other emergency situations. What You Need to Do If You Discover a Fire • Raise the alarm immediately. • Leave the area using the nearest safe exit. • Do not stop to collect personal belongings. • Proceed to the designated assembly point. • Report any relevant information to a Fire Warden or emergency services. When You Hear the Fire Alarm • Evacuate the building immediately. • Do not use lifts. • Follow the instructions of Fire Wardens and designated evacuation marshals. • Go directly to the assembly point. • Remain there until instructed it is safe to return. Your Responsibilities All staff are expected to: • Familiarise themselves with emergency evacuation procedures. • Participate in fire drills and emergency exercises. • Assist with evacuations where required. • Follow instructions at Fire and Emergency Assembly Points. • Report fire hazards, defective fire safety equipment or suspicious activity. • Cooperate with all College fire safety arrangements and procedures.
Fire Wardens The College has trained Fire Wardens and designated personnel to support safe evacuations and emergency procedures. Find your local Fire Wardens - 1 - Fire Marshall Lists - All Campuses Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) The College undertakes individual assessments for anyone whose disability, medical condition or impairment may affect their ability to evacuate safely in an emergency. PEEP Template - PEEP - Template (V2 - Sep 22) (1).docx Fire Drills & Testing To help ensure everyone can respond safely in an emergency, the College: • Conducts regular fire drills and exercises. • Maintains and tests fire safety systems and equipment. • Assesses fire risks across its premises. Smoking & Vaping Smoking and the use of electronic cigarettes/vapes is not permitted: • Inside any College building. • In College vehicles. • In contracted transport. Smoking and vaping are only permitted in designated outdoor areas. Any smoking materials must be fully extinguished before leaving these areas.
