🌟 Chapter 1 The Mysterious Palace 5
Early one sunny morning, Swetha and her eight-year-old son, Tom, set off on an exciting journey their bright red car. Their destination was an old royal palace that stood on top of a quiet hill, surrounded by tall trees and beautiful gardens. Although the palace looked grand, it had become old and worn with time. Its walls were cracked, vines climbed over the stone towers. 6
Swetha worked as a government heritage officer. Her job was to inspect old historical buildings and prepare reports about their condition. The government was planning to sell the palace to a private buyer, and Swetha had been assigned to inspect the building and show it to people who were interested in buying. Tom loved adventures, so he was thrilled to accompany his mother. "I can't wait to see a real palace!" Tom said excitedly as they drove through the countryside. 7
Swetha smiled. "I think you're going to enjoy it. Just remember, we're here for work too." Soon, the magnificent palace appeared before them. Its giant stone walls stretched high into the sky. Beautiful towers stood proudly at each corner, and an enormous iron gate guarded the entrance. As their car stopped, the heavy gate slowly creaked open. Standing at the entrance was an elderly caretaker with a long white beard and a warm smile. 8
"Welcome," he said politely, folding his hands. "I've been expecting you." "Thank you," Swetha replied with a smile. The old caretaker led them through the palace grounds. 9
Tom looked around with wide, sparkling eyes. Everywhere he turned, he saw something amazing—marble floors, giant chandeliers, colorful stained- glass windows, beautiful carvings, and enormous royal paintings. "It feels like we've traveled back in time," Tom whispered. 10
Swetha carefully inspected the walls, ceilings, and pillars while writing notes on her clipboard. Meanwhile, Tom wandered through the grand halls, imagining kings, queens, and brave warriors walking through the palace many years ago. As the sun began to set, the caretaker invited them to sit in the palace courtyard. An old lantern flickered beside them as birds flew home to their nests. "This was once the greatest palace in the kingdom," the caretaker began. 11
"It was built during the eighteenth century by a wise and kind king. People from faraway lands visited this palace because it was famous for its beauty, its grand celebrations, and the king's kindness." Tom listened carefully. "But after many years," the caretaker continued softly, "people stopped living here." 12
"Nowadays, many people believe the palace is haunted." Tom's eyes grew wide. "Haunted?" he asked. The caretaker nodded. "Some visitors say they hear strange sounds coming from somewhere beneath the palace in the middle of the night. Others believe mysterious things happen in the underground rooms." Tom slowly turned toward his mother. "Mom... do you think a ghost lives here?" 13
"Oh, Tom," she said kindly. "Ghost stories are often created to explain things people don't understand. There's no reason to believe there's a ghost here." "But what about the sounds?" Tom asked. 14
"There is probably a simple explanation," Swetha replied. "Old buildings make unusual noises all the time." Even though his mother sounded confident, Tom couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious underground room. That night, after everyone had gone to sleep, moonlight poured gently through the palace windows. Swetha slept peacefully in her room. Tom quietly opened his eyes. He remembered every word the caretaker had said. 15
"The underground room..." His curiosity was simply too strong. Very carefully, he slipped out of bed without making a sound.Holding a small flashlight, Tom quietly walked through the silent palace corridors. The old wooden floors creaked beneath his feet. 16
Following a narrow passage, he discovered an ancient spiral staircase leading deep beneath the palace. Taking a deep breath, Tom slowly climbed down. The air became cooler with every step. At the bottom of the staircase, he entered a mysterious underground chamber unlike anything he had ever seen. The walls were made of ancient stone. Old wooden shelves, forgotten treasure chests, dusty books, and glowing green moss covered the room. 17
But one object immediately caught Tom's attention. Standing proudly in the center of the chamber was a gigantic mirror surrounded by beautiful golden carvings. 18
Unlike an ordinary mirror, this one shimmered with magical blue and golden light. Tom slowly walked closer. At first, he expected to see only his own reflection. Instead... His eyes widened in complete surprise. Inside the mirror sat a young boy wearing beautiful royal clothes. The boy was comfortably seated on an elegant golden chair, quietly reading a storybook. Tom blinked. 19
The boy looked up from his book. Their eyes met. For a few silent seconds, both boys stared at each other in complete astonishment. 20
Neither of them could believe what they were seeing. Little did they know... Their extraordinary adventure was only just beginning. 21
🌟 Chapter 2 A FRIEND FROM ANOTHER CENTURY 22
Tom stood frozen in front of the magical mirror. The young boy inside the mirror looked just as surprised as he was. He slowly closed his storybook and carefully walked toward the shining mirror. For a few moments, neither of them spoke. Finally, Tom smiled and waved. "Hello!" Tom said nervously. "Hello!" the boy replied. Tom blinked in surprise. "You can hear me?" "Yes," the boy answered with a cheerful smile. "And you can hear me too!" 23
The two boys laughed. "My name is Tom," he said. "What's your name?" "I'm Prem." "It is nice to meet you, Prem." "It is nice to meet you too, Tom." Tom looked around the beautiful room behind Prem. Everything looked grand and royal. 24
Golden curtains hung beside tall windows. Beautiful wooden furniture filled the room, and colorful paintings decorated the walls. "You have a beautiful house," Tom said. Prem smiled. "This is my palace." Tom laughed. "Very funny!" "No," Prem replied honestly. "I really live in a palace." Tom noticed the tiny golden crown resting on Prem's head and the elegant royal clothes he was wearing. 25
"Are you really a prince?" Tom asked. Prem nodded. "My father is the king." Tom's mouth fell open. "A real prince?" Prem giggled. "Yes." Tom became even more curious. "So... where do you live?" "In this kingdom," Prem answered. "What year is it there?" Tom asked. Prem thought for a moment. "It is the year 1784." Tom's eyes grew as wide. 26
"What?" Prem looked confused. "What year is it where you live?" "It's 2026!" Tom exclaimed. Both boys stared at each other in complete silence. After a few seconds, they spoke at exactly the same time. "That's impossible!" They burst into laughter. The magical mirror had connected two boys living more than two hundred years apart. Tom could hardly believe it. "So... you're living in the eighteenth century?" Prem nodded. 27
"And you're living in the twenty- first century?" Tom smiled. "Exactly!" The boys quickly became comfortable talking to each other. They shared stories about their lives, their homes, and the things they enjoyed. Tom told Prem about cars, computers, mobile phones, schools, playgrounds, and airplanes. Prem listened with sparkling eyes. "Flying machines?" he asked. 28
"Yes," Tom laughed. "People travel across the world in giant airplanes." Prem shook his head in amazement. "Our fastest journey is by horse." Tom smiled. "You should see our world someday." Prem became quiet. "There is something making me sad," he said softly. "What happened?" Tom asked kindly. Prem looked down at the floor. "My parents want me to train as a warrior every day." 29
"You don't like it?" "I will learn," Prem answered, "but today I wanted to read stories instead." He gently held up the storybook. "When I refused to practise sword fighting this morning, my father became angry. My mother told me that one day I must become a brave king." Prem sighed. "So I came here to this secret underground room where no one could find me." Tom smiled warmly. "My mom tells me to finish my homework before I play." 30
Prem looked up. "Really?" Tom nodded. "I guess all parents are the same." Both boys laughed together. Suddenly, Tom had an exciting idea. "Prem!" "Yes?" "Would you like to visit my world?" Prem's eyes sparkled. "Can I?" "I don't know," Tom admitted. "But let's try." The magical mirror began glowing brighter and brighter. 31
Blue and golden light swirled across its surface like gentle waves. Prem slowly reached out his hand. Tom reached out from the other side. As their fingertips touched the glowing mirror, tiny golden sparkles danced through the air. The mirror rippled like water. Prem took a deep breath. Carefully, he stepped forward. One foot...Then another... Slowly, he passed through the magical mirror. 32
For the very first time in his life, Prince Prem entered the twenty-first century. "So this is your world," he whispered. "Welcome to the future!" Prem looked at the small flashlight in Tom's hand. "What is that glowing stick?" Tom switched it on. "It's a flashlight." Prem gasped. "There is light inside it... without fire!" 33
Tom smiled. "Wait until you see everything else." The two boys spent the next few minutes talking and laughing. Tom showed Prem his digital wristwatch. Prem stared at it with amazement. "It tells the time without sand or the sun?" "It sure does," Tom replied proudly. Then Tom opened his backpack. "I'm getting hungry," he said. 34
He took out a sandwich, some biscuits, a chocolate bar, and a juice box. "Would you like to try some?" Prem carefully picked up a biscuit. He took one small bite. His eyes suddenly became wide. "This is delicious!" Tom laughed. 35
"You haven't tried the chocolate yet." Prem tasted the chocolate. His face lit up with pure happiness. "This is the most wonderful sweet I have ever eaten!" The two boys laughed together as they shared their food. For the first time, it felt as though they had known each other forever. But their joyful adventure was about to take an unexpected turn... 36
🌟 Chapter 3 A PRINCE TRAPPED IN TIME 37
After enjoying their delicious snacks, Prem smiled happily. "Thank you, Tom," he said. "Everything in your world is so wonderful." "I'm glad you liked it," Tom replied. "Now, shall we help you go back before anyone notices you're gone?" Prem nodded. "Yes. My parents must be worried about me." The two boys walked back to the magical mirror. Its beautiful blue and golden light still shimmered softly. Prem stepped toward it confidently. 38
"Goodbye for now, Tom," he said with a smile. "I hope we meet again." "I hope so too," Tom replied. Prem gently reached out his hand and touched the mirror. Nothing happened. He frowned. He tried again. Still nothing. The magical glow slowly faded away. Within seconds, the mirror became completely ordinary. It reflected only the two boys standing in front of it. Prem stared at his own reflection. 39
"No..." he whispered. Tom carefully touched the mirror. It felt cold and hard, just like an ordinary mirror. "The magic has disappeared," Tom said quietly. Prem's eyes filled with tears. "What do I do now?" "I can't go home." For a moment, neither of them spoke. 40
The underground room suddenly felt much colder and quieter. Tom placed a comforting hand on Prem's shoulder. "Don't worry," he said gently. "We'll figure something out." Prem took a deep breath and nodded. Just then, Tom remembered something. "My mom!" Prem looked confused. "What about her?" "If she finds you here wearing royal clothes, she'll have a thousand questions!" Prem looked worried. 41
"What should we do?" Tom thought for a moment. "You'll have to hide until we understand what's happening." Prem agreed. The two boys quietly climbed the old stone staircase. They carefully walked through the silent palace corridors, trying not to make any noise. Everything seemed peaceful. Then... "Creak..." 42
A wooden floorboard squeaked beneath Tom's foot. Both boys froze. The bedroom door slowly opened. Swetha stepped into the hallway. She looked sleepy at first. Then she noticed the strange little boy standing beside Tom. Her eyes widened in surprise. Tom swallowed nervously. "Mom..." Swetha looked at Prem from head to toe. He wore beautiful royal clothes embroidered with golden thread. 43
A tiny crown rested on his head. His polished leather shoes looked as though they belonged in a museum. She blinked twice. "Tom..." she said slowly. "Who is this boy?" Tom hesitated. "This is... my friend." "Your friend?" Swetha looked puzzled. "I've never seen him before." She turned to Prem. 44
"Where are your parents?" Prem looked at Tom before answering. "They live..." He paused. "...in the eighteenth century." Swetha raised an eyebrow. 45
Tom quickly spoke. "Mom, please listen! He's telling the truth!" Swetha folded her arms. "I'm listening." Tom took a deep breath. Then he told her everything. He explained how he had discovered the underground room. He described the magical mirror. He spoke about meeting Prem inside the mirror. He explained how Prem was a prince living more than two hundred years in the past. 46
Finally, he told her how the mirror had suddenly stopped working, leaving Prem trapped in the present. Swetha listened patiently until Tom finished. When he finally stopped talking... She smiled kindly. "Oh, Tom." "I think you've been reading too many adventure stories." "But Mom—" She gently interrupted him. "I believe this little boy is probably visiting with his family." 47
She looked at Prem's beautiful royal costume. "Perhaps there's a historical play or a cultural event nearby." Prem lowered his head sadly. She didn't believe him. Tom sighed. "Mom... we're telling the truth." Swetha gently placed her hand on Tom's shoulder. "I know you believe what you're saying." Then she smiled at Prem. "You don't have to be afraid." 48
Prem looked up with grateful eyes. "Thank you." The next morning, the elderly caretaker arrived. "Good morning!" he greeted them cheerfully. "I would like to show you another room filled with royal treasures." Swetha smiled. "That would be wonderful." Tom and Prem quietly followed them through the palace. Soon they entered a magnificent gallery filled with ancient history. 49
There were shining swords, polished shields, royal armour, beautiful crowns, carved wooden chairs, old musical instruments, and priceless paintings. Every corner of the room told a story from long ago. As Swetha admired the collection, something suddenly caught her eye. A large royal family portrait hung proudly on the wall. She walked closer. Her heart skipped a beat. The young prince standing beside the king and queen looked exactly like Prem. 50
The same face. The same smile. The same eyes. Even the tiny golden crown was identical. Slowly... Very slowly... Swetha turned around. 51
Prem was standing quietly behind her. She looked back at the painting. Then at Prem. Again at the painting. Again at Prem. There was no difference. Her hands trembled slightly. She could hardly believe what she was seeing. Tom smiled. "I told you, Mom." For several long moments, Swetha remained speechless. Then she gently walked toward Prem. She knelt beside him. Her voice became soft. 52
"Prem..." "Everything you told us..." "...was true." Prem nodded quietly. "Yes." Swetha smiled warmly. "I'm sorry I didn't believe you." "That's alright." Tom grinned happily. "I knew you'd believe us someday!" The three of them smiled at one another. But none of them knew that an even greater adventure was waiting just around the corner. 53
🌟 Chapter 4 THE GREATEST FRIENDSHIP ACROSS TIME 54
After the excitement of discovering Prem's true identity, life at the palace became much happier. Swetha welcomed Prem as a member of their little family. Although Prem missed his parents every day, Tom did everything he could to make his new friend smile. The two boys spent every moment together. They played games, told stories, laughed, and explored every corner of the old palace. One sunny afternoon, Swetha took them to a nearby children's park. 55
Prem had never seen such colorful playground equipment before. "What is this?" he asked, pointing at a tall slide. Tom smiled. "It's called a slide. Come on!" Prem climbed to the top. Then he slid down. "Wheee!" He landed safely and burst into laughter. "Again!" he shouted. Tom laughed. 56
"I knew you'd love it!" The boys spent hours playing on the swings, climbing frames, and merry-go-round. Later, Tom bought two ice creams. Prem carefully tasted his for the first time. His eyes sparkled with delight. "This is colder than snow and sweeter than honey!" he exclaimed. Tom laughed so hard that he almost dropped his own ice cream. 57
That evening, they returned to the palace. During dinner, the caretaker stopped by with some important news. "The government has almost made its final decision," he said sadly. "The palace will soon be auctioned." The room fell silent.Prem slowly put down his spoon. 58
"But... why?" he asked. Swetha sighed. "The palace is very old. Restoring it will cost a great deal of money." She looked around the beautiful dining hall. "The government wants to preserve it, but they cannot afford the restoration. If someone buys it, they may renovate it however they wish." Prem's smile disappeared. He imagined the beautiful palace being torn down or changed forever. "This palace is my home," he whispered. 59
Tom looked at his friend. "I don't want anything to happen to it either." Everyone sat quietly for a few moments. Suddenly, Prem's face brightened. "I know how we can save the palace!" Tom looked up eagerly. "Really?" Prem nodded. "My family hid many chests of gold coins beneath the palace long ago." 60
"My family hid many chests of gold coins beneath the palace long ago." "If you use those coins, you can repair everything." Tom's eyes grew wide. "That's wonderful!" But Swetha gently shook her head. "It isn't that simple." Both boys looked at her. "If we secretly take the treasure, it would be against the law," she explained. "The treasure belongs to history, not to us." Prem looked disappointed. 61
Tom quietly thought for a moment. Then a smile appeared on his face. "What if we don't keep the treasure?" Swetha looked at him. "What do you mean?" "We can show the government exactly where the treasure is hidden." "If it is discovered officially inside the palace, it can become part of the palace's history." Prem's eyes lit up. 62
"And then the treasure can help save the palace!" Swetha smiled proudly. "That's a wonderful idea." The next morning, Prem led them through the secret underground passages. After walking through several hidden corridors, they reached an old stone wall decorated with the royal family's symbol. Prem gently pressed a carved stone. With a deep rumbling sound... The wall slowly moved aside. Behind it lay a hidden treasure chamber. 63
Swetha carefully opened the first chest. Golden coins sparkled brilliantly in the sunlight. Everyone stood in silent amazement. "This is incredible," whispered Swetha. 64
There were royal necklaces, jeweled crowns, beautiful ornaments, ancient seals, and priceless treasures that had remained untouched for hundreds of years. She immediately contacted the government. Soon, archaeologists, historians, and heritage officers arrived at the palace. They carefully examined the treasure and confirmed that it truly belonged to the royal family of the ancient kingdom. The discovery became famous across the country. 65
Because of the treasure's historical importance, the government decided that the palace should never be sold. Instead, it would be carefully restored and opened as a museum so future generations could learn about its rich history. 66
Swetha was praised for her honesty and dedication. The government appointed her as the official supervisor of the restoration project. Over the following months, skilled workers repaired the palace with great care. Broken walls were rebuilt. Beautiful paintings were restored. Gardens bloomed once again. Royal furniture, swords, ornaments, ancient books, and family portraits were displayed throughout the palace. 67
At last, the magnificent palace reopened as The Great King's Palace Museum. Visitors from many places came to admire its beauty and learn about its history. 68
Prem walked through the museum with tears of happiness in his eyes. "My family's home will never be forgotten," he said softly. Swetha smiled. "Your kindness helped save this palace." A few days later, something wonderful happened. The magical mirror in the underground chamber began to glow once again. Blue and golden light danced across its surface. Prem looked toward the mirror. "I think..." "...it's time for me to go home." 69
Tom's smile slowly faded. He knew this moment would come, but he wasn't ready to say goodbye. Swetha gently knelt beside Prem. "Your mother and father must be waiting for you." "You have a kingdom that needs a wise and brave prince." She handed him a small bundle. 70
Inside were several children's books about wisdom, leadership, kindness, and courage. She also packed some homemade snacks for his journey. Prem smiled gratefully. "Thank you." "I will treasure these forever." Tom hugged Prem tightly. "I'm going to miss you so much." Prem hugged him back. 71
"You will always be my best friend." Tom wiped away a tear. "Whenever I read about great kings in history..." "...I'll remember you." Prem smiled warmly. "And whenever I help my people..." "...I'll remember everything you taught me." The magical mirror shimmered brightly. Prem picked up the books and the bag of snacks. He turned toward the glowing mirror. 72
Before stepping through, he looked back one last time. "Thank you... for everything." Then he stepped into the magical light. On the other side of the mirror stood his mother and father, waiting with joyful tears. 73
They ran forward and embraced their son. Prem smiled and waved one final time. Tom and Swetha waved back with happy tears in their eyes. "Goodbye, Prem!" Tom called. "Goodbye, my dear friend!" Prem replied. Slowly... The magical light faded. The sparkling glow disappeared. Once again, the mirror became an ordinary mirror, showing only the reflections of Tom and Swetha. 74
Tom gently placed his hand on the glass. Although the magic had ended, he knew that true friendship could never disappear. Some friendships are so special that not even time can separate them. 75
And somewhere, more than two hundred years in the past... A young prince often smiled whenever he remembered the brave little boy who had become his best friend. Moral of the Story: True friendship has no boundaries—not even time. Honesty, kindness, and courage can preserve history and create a better future for everyone.ENDENDEND 76
