A demographic report based on Nepal's 2021 National Population Census, prepared for members of parliament to provide constituency-level statistics.
This document is the National Census 2021 Demographic Report by Constituency for Nepal. It is prepared by Suresh Man Shrestha, Cartographic Engineer, in Kathmandu, 2026. The report is intended for Honorable Members of Parliament representing all 165 federal constituencies, as well as members of the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies. Its purpose is to provide baseline statistics for evidence-based policy formulation, planning, and prioritization at the constituency level.
The report begins with population size and sex ratio data. Nepal's total population is 29,164,578. Kathmandu Constituency No. 2 has the highest population at 268,119, while Manang has the lowest at 5,658. The highest male population is in Kathmandu-2, and the highest female population is in Rupandehi-2. Manang has the highest sex ratio at 129.4, while Surkhet-1 has the lowest at 83.8.
Population growth rate and change are covered next. The average annual growth rate between 2011 and 2021 was 0.92%. Bhaktapur-2 had the highest growth rate at +4.56%, while Ramechhap-1 had the lowest at -1.67%. Decadal change ranged from +60.8% in Bhaktapur-2 to -16.0% in Ramechhap-1. The report also classifies population by rural, semi-urban, and urban areas, with 5 constituencies in Kathmandu Valley being 100% urban.
Household structure analysis shows that Dolakha-1 has the highest proportion of nuclear families at 75.4%. The report examines population by specific age groups: youth aged 16-24 is highest in Kathmandu-1 at 22.7%, while the 25-40 age group is highest in Manang-1 at 34.3%. Senior citizen sex ratios are highest in Mahottari-2, Dhanusha-3, and Ilam-1.
