They enjoyed celebrating and thanking nature for the wonderful things it provided. The forest was full of happiness as the animals prepared their village decorated with leaves, flowers, handicrafts, bamboo, and lights. “Everyone would surely be mezmarize with my looks!’’Among them was the arrogant Hornbill, who was proud of its colorful feathers. It told the animals that everyone would surely see and praise its look during the festival. The Hornbill spent most of its time making sure its feathers were perfect. The small Sparrow reminded the Hornbill that the Gawai Dayak Festival was not about being beautiful. It was a time to be thankful, work together, and to build friendships through kindness and teamwork“The Festival is not about the look, but it’s about helping ang being thankful, Hornbil.’’
As the preparations went on, dark clouds covered the sky. Oh my! It might rain A big storm came through the rainforest blowing away decorations, breaking bamboo poles and spreading flowers over.
Instead of being down, lets just team up to fix our decors and sorroundings The heavy rain made the village muddy. The animals felt sad after seeing their hard work ruined.The Rabbit told everyone to stay positive and asked all the animals to help rebuild the decorations before the festival. Soon, the heavy rain stopped, leaving the village muddy and covered with broken decorations.
Most of the animals started working, picking up broken branches, fixing the decorations and cleaning the village.The hornbill did not want to help because it was worried that its beautiful feathers would get dirty and wet. It stayed under a tree to keep its feathers clean while watching the others work.
"Crack"Even though the Hornbill did not help, the Sparrow kept working with the Rabbit, Deer, Monkey, Squirrel and many other animals. They shared tools, encouraged each other, and never complained even when they were tired. Their teamwork made the work faster, and slowly the village became colorful and beautiful again. While everyone was busy decorating, a loud crack came from the forest.
Everyone! Hornbill needs help!!A big tree branch broke because of the storm and fell on the Hornbill, trapping it underneath. Scared and unable to get out, the Hornbill cried for help. The Sparrow heard the cries and called the other animals.
Without thinking about the Hornbill’s selfishness, they all ran over and worked together to lift the heavy branch and save it.
The Hornbill was overwhelmed by the kindness of the animals. It felt ashamed that it had hurt them and even more so that it hadn't helped them when it had the ability to do so.I'm so sorry, everyone, for the attitude that I showed.It apologized to the animals for being selfish and vain. The animals were forgiving, especially the sparrow, who reminded the hornbill that it was not beauty that made someone or something worthwhile, but what was on the inside.It’s okay, Hornbill, we all make mistakes. What matters is that you learned from yours and are willing to change.
The animals then celebrated the festival which was filled with fun, traditional dayak dancing, music from gongs and drums, and delicious food which everyone shared in true friendship. The hornbill was glad that it too had contributed to the festival and that it had danced with it's friends despite not being able to show off its feather. From that day on the hornbill was modest and caring to all who needed it.
The animals didn't just celebrate the Gawai Dayak, but also their friendships with each other that had been made through kindness and great efforts to help each other. The story teaches us that selfishness can lead to people or things being unkind to you, but that forgiveness, gratitude, friendship and teamwork always makes a community a better place.MORAL OF THE STORY: MORAL OF THE STORY: True beauty comes from kindness, humility, and helping others.
