MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT The Golden Lions is proud to host the u/12 and u/13 Interprovincial 7’s Tournament at Hoërskool Monument this week. On behalf of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, I would like to wish you all a warm welcome and a very successful tournament. It is important for us all to be reminded that we play sport for the friendship, sportsmanship and comradery. By now all players are eager to display their skills and are mentally and physically prepared for challenges ahead – enjoy the games, have fun and love Rugby! To the Golden Lions Primary Schools Executive, the organizers of the tournament and to all the visiting Provinces and Neville Jardene Administrators, we would like to thank you for the work President you do in preparing your players for tournaments such as these – It is you who prepare our youth for the future – our Springboks and Blitzbokke. It is important as we all strive to build a healthy society and Country – Good Luck with the games and know that you’re appreciated. RULES & REGULATIONS • 7-a-side variations of the rules apply. • Teams consist of 12 players per game (7 players and 5 reserves). • Teams must be on time and ensure they know when they are playing their next game. • Rolling substitutions are permitted only during stoppages in the game. • No substitutions are allowed on the field if a penalty is awarded. • Games are 7 minutes per side with a 2-minute half-time break. U/12 Friday games use 18- minute slots (2 minutes between games) to allow additional games. U/13 Friday games and Saturday games use 20-minute slots. • Any minor injuries must be dealt with quickly and players moved out of the way so that play can continue. • Games start on the siren. • Any player receiving a yellow card must leave the field for 2 minutes. Time starts as soon as the player is sitting in the allocated area. • Any player receiving a red card is suspended for the remainder of the tournament. • Pool teams are ranked according to points. If teams are equal: points difference, most tries, result of the match between the teams, then toss of a coin. • In U/13 semi-finals and finals, if scores are level after normal time, 3 minutes extra time is played. First team to score wins. If still level, the first-try rule, then tournament tries, applies. • The U/13 CUP FINAL is 7 minutes each way. U/12 Cup, Shield and Plate winners are determined by points in their respective 3-team classification pools.
