3 Introduction Elevators are an important part of hotel operations because guests use them to travel between floors throughout their stay. Their cleanliness and appearance play a crucial role to the guest's overall impression of the hotel. Since elevator buttons, handrails, doors, and other surfaces are often touched, they need constant cleaning and attention. The purpose of this SOPs booklet is to explain how housekeeping staff can clean and inspect a hotel elevator safely, efficiently, and consistently. The procedure covers preparation, cleaning the elevator interior and accessible exterior surfaces, disinfecting high-touch areas, cleaning the floor, and performing a final inspection. Main Operation Stages 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Prepare the equipment and cleaning supplies. Check the elevator and arrange a safe cleaning area. Remove dust, fingerprints, and visible dirt. Clean the walls, mirrors, doors, and accessible panels. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces. Clean the floor and accessible door sill. Inspect the elevator and report any defects. Complete the checklist and return the area to normal use.

4 Safety equipment Cleaning products Cleaning equipment Equipment & Cleaning Supplies Before starting the operation, the required equipment should be prepared beforehand to avoid unnecessary interruptions and time waste. Three types of equipment are needed: Non-slip shoes Face Mask Microfiber cloths for general surfaces. Separate cloth for mirrors and glass. Soft cleaning brush for accessible edges and corners. Vacuum cleaner for carpeted floors, if applicable. Mop and bucket for suitable hard floors. Small dustpan and brush, if required. Cleaning trolley for transporting supplies. Neutral multi-surface cleaner. Glass cleaner suitable for the mirror or glass surface. Disinfectant for frequently touched surfaces. Floor-cleaning product suitable for the floor material. Microfiber Cloth Protective Gloves Glass Cleaner Multi-Surface Cleaner Protective gloves and other PPE required by the product instructions. Wet-floor warning sign. Cleaning cart and any required barriers or signs to keep guests away from the cleaning area. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Note! Before starting, check that the supplies are sufficient, containers are properly labelled, and cloths are clean. Select products suitable for the elevator's materials, such as stainless steel, glass, stone, or carpet. Do not spray liquids directly onto buttons, electrical panels, displays, or other electronic components; apply products using the approved method.

5 Stage 5: Clean handrails Stage 4: Clean control panels Stage 3: Clean mirrors and walls Elevator Cleaning Stages & Procedures Stage 1: Prepare the area Stage 2: Clean doors and accessible surfaces 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. Wipe the handrails with a suitable cleaning cloth and product. 2. Disinfect them when required by the hotel's cleaning schedule. 1. Remove dust from suitable wall surfaces using the correct cloth. 2. Clean mirrors and glass with a suitable glass cleaner. 3. Wipe the entire surface evenly. 4. Inspect the surface from different angles to find any streaks, fingerprints, or water spots. 1. Follow the hotel's approved procedure for cleaning buttons and electronic panels. 2. Apply the approved product to a cloth rather than spraying it directly onto the panel. 3. Gently wipe the buttons and accessible surrounding surfaces without allowing liquid to enter openings. 4. Check that the buttons and labels stay clean and legible. 1. Use a clean microfiber cloth and an approved product to remove fingerprints and marks from accessible door surfaces. 2. Wipe the surrounding door frame and accessible wall areas. 3. Clean from the top downward so dust and dirt do not fall onto areas that have already been cleaned. 4. Use a product suitable for the material and dry the surface if needed. Choose a suitable cleaning time, preferably during a quieter period (e.g., nighttime). Inform the housekeeping supervisor and coordinate with the right hotel staff if the elevator needs to be temporarily taken out of service. Place warning signs where needed. Check the elevator for spills, damage, unusual smells, or items left behind. Follow the hotel's lost-and-found procedure for guest belongings. Quality standard: residue. Surfaces should be free from visible dust, fingerprints, streaks, and cleaning Do not insert tools or fingers into door gaps or tracks. Any debris that interferes with the doors should be reported to authorized maintenance personnel. Remember! Housekeeping staff must not attempt to disable, immobilize, or repair an elevator unless specifically authorized and trained to do so.

6 3. Follow the product's required contact time and instructions. 4. Allow the surface to dry as directed. 1. Remove loose dirt and debris. 2. Vacuum carpeted floors or clean hard floors using the mopping stick. 3. Pay attention to corners and edges. 4. Clean only accessible parts of the door sill. 5. Make sure the floor is dry before the elevator returns to normal use. Wear the required PPE and follow chemical-label instructions. Never mix cleaning chemicals. Prevent liquids from entering buttons, displays, electrical components, or door gaps. Keep guests away from wet floors and the immediate cleaning area. Never reach into the elevator shaft or attempt to clean inaccessible mechanical components. Do not block emergency exits or interfere with elevator operation. Report damaged panels, unusual noises, faulty buttons, damaged flooring, or door problems to the supervisor and authorized maintenance staff. Do not return an elevator to service if it has been taken out of service for a safety-related issue; authorized personnel must clear it first.
