What is your songwriting process like? “ I sit down and start playing. I [also] listen to a lot of music that I’d like to be writing” When you reach roadblocks when writing or making music, how do you inspire yourself to make songs again? “ I take breaks. I remove myself from the situation if I feel like I’m not where I wanna be just musically or artistically” What’s the personal prep process you take before performing? “ Listen to a lot of Miles Davis… I don’t really get nervous… I remember going to my first concert in high school and I was super nervous and I was nervous the next time and the time after that…by the time I started doing my own things… I started realizing being nervous just doesn’t help that much”
We saw on your page that you teach music to kids, what is that experience like and how has it shaped you as a person and a musician? “It’s the most difficult thing that I do. I don’t have a lot of students right now because it’s the end of the school year…Going through the basic processes of how I think about music, trying to go back to square one… enhanced my understanding [of music more]” Any tips to teen artists? “ Be yourself first of all. Make the music you wanna make. The people that like your music will follow. Don’t sell out” Any future plans for your music? “ I wanna go to New York [and make music there]”
