When you think of a king, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Maybe, you think of huge palaces, pretty clothes, a sparkly crown, or a table full of yummy food… But, have you ever thought about what it means to call Jesus, ‘King?’ USING GOOGLE LENS: Locate the world famous palaces in the photos. London Jaipur Mysore The Bible tells us that Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords. This means He is the greatest King ever – no one is stronger, wiser, or more powerful than Him! Unlike earthly kings who rule over countries for a few years, Jesus is a King forever. His kingdom never ends. We may never meet or even talk to the mighty kings of earth, but Jesus is a loving King who came down to earth from heaven just for us. And He wants to speak with us every day through His Word – the Bible. We don’t need to wait for an appointment, we just need to call on Him in prayer, and He is ready and able to help us. That’s how much He loves us! Other kings may have lots of cool stuff, but we have the greatest person on our side – King Jesus. So, when you feel like things are way beyond your control, speak to Him! Jesus,Jesus, THE HUMBLE KINGTHE HUMBLE KING “I just can’t do it on my own!” Anita had tears streaming down her face as she wondered how she was going to manage. She had just failed another maths exam and had a retest in t wo days. Suddenly, through the blur of her tears she noticed a tall girl approaching her. She guessed that the girl must’ve been in high school. “Hey, are you ok?” The girl asked, looking concerned. “I’m Deepa. Do you need help?”Seeing the kindness in Deepa’s eyes, Anita told her all about her problem. “Don’t worry!” Deepa smiled and reassured her, “I’ll help you. Everything will be ok! Cheer up!” Over the next t wo days Deepa patiently helped Anita study for her test. She was always kind and encouraging. On Monday morning, Ani- ta set out for school, ready to write the maths test. “Thanks to Deepa, I’m going to ace this test!” Anita was amazed, “Wow!! I just spent my weekend studying with our school leader and didn’t even know it!!” She thought to herself. When the school assembly began, Anita was shocked to see that Deepa was standing in front of the gathering, right next to their Principal. She realised that Deepa was the new Head-girl of their school! “Deepa could’ve just ignored me, but instead she spent her time and energy on a random junior like me!! I hope I become a kind leader like Deepa when I grow up!” Prayer: Jesus, as I grow, help me to be more like you—kind, humble and loving. As she gazed admiringly at Deepa, Anita was re- minded of another great leader she had learnt about at Sunday School—Jesus. The bible tells us about Jesus, the King of kings, who stepped down from His heavenly throne and came to humbly help and teach us so that we can draw closer to God. Though He was King, Jesus spent time with the common people and made Himself nothing (Phil 2:7-9). Like Deepa let us also stay humble in what- ever God has given us — at home, school or on the playground. Let us live humbly and helpfully. Reflect: How can you humbly show love and concern to those in your care? THE MYSTERY OF ‘Sadhu’‘Sadhu’ SundarSundar SinghSingh He walked across very dangerous places, through snow and jungles. He even braved wild animals and harsh weather to share about Jesus in remote villages across India, Tibet, Nepal and other countries. It is said that his feet even bled on the snow as he walked to share the good news, earning him the title ‘the apostle with the bleeding feet.’ Like Jesus, he had no possessions, and he called the road his ‘home.’ But wherever he went, God proved that He loved people everywhere through Sundar’s words, signs and miracles – even today people speak of these miracles. Filled with anger and grief, Sundar took it out by burning a Bible in public. But he found no peace. “Although I believed that I had done a very good deed by burning the Bible, I felt unhappy,” he said. But God had not forgotten Sundar. In his moments of deepest sadness, Sundar saw Jesus in a vision. He knew that Jesus was real, and that He loved him. So, to share His love, Sundar started to travel over the dangerous Himalayan mountains, dressed in a saffron robe and turban, as a Sadhu – a holy man. Though many tried to harm him and even imprison him, nothing stopped Sundar. In 1929, on one of these missions to Tibet he disappeared. No one knows what happened – but we know that we will see Sundar in heaven. Like him, you too can spread God’s love, right where you are—in your home, school and with friends. As Sadhu Sundar Singh would say “The true Christian is like sandalwood, which imparts its fragrance to the axe which cuts it, without doing any harm in return…” 14 15 Sundar Singh was born into a Sikh family in Punjab in 1889. The Sikhs are loving people who believe in equality and helping the poor. Sundar attended an English medium primary school in Ludhiana, where the New Testament was read daily as a textbook. But Sundar hated it; he refused to read it because he thought it was false. Yet something about God’s love as described in the Bible through the life and death of Jesus always attracted him. Young Sundar experienced this love of Christ in a very powerful way when his mother, whom he loved very much, passed away when he was just 14 years old.
