Zero Suicide is a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention that views suicide as a preventable outcome rather than an inevitable risk. It is grounded in the belief that organizations can save lives by building safer systems, supporting staff, and providing consistent, compassionate care to individuals at risk. This quarter, we are excited to launch several new learning opportunities and resources designed to strengthen staff knowledge, confidence, and support when working with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors. We are especially grateful to our Zero Suicide Learning Community members whose feedback helped shape these offerings. We encourage staff to share these opportunities with their teams and take advantage of these resources. 5 I Can’t Hear You is a powerful program that explores how trauma impacts behavior, relationships, and decision-making while highlighting the strength and resilience needed to overcome challenges. Through honest and relatable storytelling, it encourages empathy, compassion, and understanding to help create stronger, safer, and more supportive communities. Through his powerful and personal story, Derek, a previous JRI employee, challenged us to think about how trauma impacts our lives, relationships, and the way we treat one another. His message was a reminder that we never truly know what someone may be carrying behind the scenes, and that empathy, kindness, and understanding can make a lasting difference. SummerNewsletter Bruce’s Portrait A colorful new addition to the children's waiting room at Taunton Southeast Behavioral Health Center! This custom mural was digitally illustrated in Procreate on an iPad and printed on canvas. Created by “Bruce” Kolvathy Chhiv, a clinician, Intensive Care Coordinator, and trainer at JRI, the artwork celebrates the spirit of Taunton through a vibrant depiction of the historic Taunton Green. Designed with young visitors in mind, the mural also serves as an interactive mindfulness activity. Children can explore the scene by searching for flowers, animals, colors, and other hidden details while they wait for their appointments, helping to create a calming, engaging, and welcoming environment.
