AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN SAPS NORTH WEST SUPPORTS VULNERABLE FAMILIES THROUGH MANDELA DAY INITIATIVES Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures by: Intern Oratile Manyedi The SAPS North West Provincial Office continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through its Mandela Day initiatives. Following a request for donations and sponsorships, a Provincial team led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, to conduct site visits and assess the needs of families facing difficult circumstances. Speaking about the significance of Mandela Day and the importance of giving back to communities, Major General Naidoo emphasised that the day should be about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. He highlighted the importance of helping those in need and noted that the United Nations has declared 18 July as Nelson Mandela International Day, recognising its significance as a day for people to contribute towards making a positive impact in society. “Today is not about killing a Friday and having a braai, but about the impact you will have collectively in changing the lives of others. This exercise is to unify people for a common purpose,” said Major General Naidoo. One of the projects focused on a family affected by Femicide, which left two children without their mother following an incident in November 2025. The team, together with the Department of Social Development, visited the family to assess their living conditions and identify areas requiring urgent assistance. The children require ongoing care and support, with the youngest child living with a disability. The family was assisted with food hampers and blankets, while further needs such as furniture, beds, clothing, household items and specialised support were identified. The second project involved the family of retired Captain Stoffel, whose home was destroyed by fire on 16 June 2026. The incident was the second fire to affect the family, following a previous fire in 2022. The assessment found extensive structural damage, leaving the family in need of repairs, household items, clothing and school necessities for the two affected children. The family has received R5 000 in financial assistance from Dean's Decor, although additional support is still required. The teams concluded the visits by offering the families prayer, encouragement and continued support, reaffirming the SAPS commitment to serving and supporting communities beyond policing.
KHUMA SAPS HOSTS DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN HONOR OF MANDELA DAY 03 AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN Article by: Col MA Magakoe Pictures: Khuma SAPS In the spirit of Nelson Mandela, a drug and substance abuse awareness campaign was held on Friday, 17 July 2026 by Khuma SAPS. The events commenced with a peaceful march which brought together community members, stakeholders such as SAPS, Department of Health and SanPark and local leaders to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse and to encourage a safer, healthier community. The campaign also included serving warm soup to members of the community as an act of compassion and service. This initiative reflected Mandela’s values of unity, kindness, and giving back, reminding us that small acts of service can make a difference in people’s lives. A total of 100 people were reached through this awareness campaign.
04 PUDIMOE SAPS CELEBRATES MANDELA DAY WITH DONATIONS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN Article and pictures by: Cst T Mohale In honour of Nelson Mandela International Day, Pudimoe SAPS, in partnership with key stakeholders, held a Mandela Day Celebration on Friday, 17 July 2026 at Khaukhwe Village and Karel Stad/ Sedibeng Village. Guided by the 2026 Mandela Day theme “It’s Still In Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequity” the event focused on giving back to vulnerable families while promoting safety, wellness and community Involvement. Through the support of Employee Health and Wellness, the North West Deputy Commissioners, Community Police Forum, the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, and the Tribal Offices of Khaukhwe and Karel stad, the celebration was a great success. As part of the 67 minutes of service, four vulnerable families from Khaukhwe Village and Karel Stad village were identified to receive donations. Each family was presented with two blankets and a mattress to provide warmth and comfort during the winter season. The program continued with an informative Session presented by Sergeant TA Peloeole from SAPS Crime Prevention. Community members were educated on crime prevention, GBV, and the process of applying for protection orders, while the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management and Employee Health and Wellness shared information on the government available to the public. The Mandela Day celebration concluded with the serving of hot soup and bread to approximately 180 community members. Pudimoe SAPS and the Organizing committee thanked all the stakeholders for their generosity, partnership, and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those in need, demonstrating that the spirit of Mandela Day lives on through service and compassion.
05 BOJALANA 2 DISTRICT STATIONS HONOUR MANDELA DAY THROUGH 67 MINUTES OF AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN As part of the annual Mandela Day 67 minutes initiative on Friday, 17 July 2026, SAPS members across Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2, together with CPF and SAPS retirees, embarked on various community service projects aimed at making meaningful difference in the lives of community members. At Phokeng, SAPS members and the CPF Executive Committee visited Victorious Rehabilitation Centre in Masosobane Section, where they donated bed sheets and towel to the residents. The team also visited Otshepeng Old age home in Tlaseng Village and donated bed sheets, towels, toiletries, as well as washing and cleaning products in support of the elderly In Boitekong, SAPS members and CPF members spent 67 minutes clearing overgrown shrubs and trees along the road leading to Boitekong Police Station. The initiative addressed community safety concerns, as the overgrown vegetation had obstructed visibility and provided community members at risk while walking to the station to report crimes. The project improved visibility and enhanced safer access to the police station, while service delivery continued uninterrupted. Meanwhile, Mogwase SAPS, together with SAPS retirees, repaired potholes on the road leading to the police station and cleaned the station precinct while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to the community. 06 KLERKSDORP SAPS COMMEMORATES MANDELA DAY THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVES AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Klerksdorp SAPS In celebration of Mandela Day, Klerksdorp SAPS, in collaboration with various stakeholders, conducted a series of community outreach initiatives under the theme, "It's Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequality." The programme reflected the spirit of Nelson Mandela by providing dignity, care and hope to vulnerable members of the community on Friday, 17 July 2026. The day commenced at the Thuthuzela Care Centre and Crisis Centre at Tshepong Hospital, where donations were handed over in support of survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The initiative aimed to strengthen support services for victims and demonstrate solidarity with those affected by violence. The programme then proceeded to the Jakaranda area, where food parcels were distributed to ten disadvantaged families to assist with food security. Community members also received warm soup as part of the outreach programme. The final stop was Brakspruit, where donated clothing was distributed to disadvantaged families. In addition, dog pellets were donated to stray dogs as part of the day's community service activities. The initiative was made possible through the partnership of Klerksdorp SAPS, Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Klerksdorp Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Rio Casino, Vodacom and the Rotary Club, whose generous donations contributed to the success of the programme. The project was initiated and coordinated by Brigadier (Dr) Morebodi and Sergeant Brendah Mabotja from Social Crime Prevention. They were joined by Lieutenant Colonel Ntshidi, Sergeant Mabotja, intern Moeketsi and intern Motau, who participated in the day's activities. The Mandela Day commemoration demonstrated the value of partnerships in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities and reaffirmed SAPS' commitment to making a positive and lasting impact beyond policing through acts of service, compassion and community engagement.

08AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN IKAGENG SAPS COMMEMORATES MANDELA DAY BY EMPOWERING YOUNG BOYS, MEN AND FATHERS Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Sgt M Morwa On Friday,17 July 2026, Ikageng SAPS, together with various stakeholders, commemorated Mandela Day by hosting an awareness and empowerment programme for young boys, men and fathers at Bacha Pele Centre in Extension 06. The event focused on promoting positive masculinity and equipping attendees with knowledge on important social issues affecting families and communities. Presentations covered Gender-Based Violence (GBV), mental health and well-being, drug and substance abuse, employment and self-development opportunities, and the importance of men serving as positive role models within their families and communities. The programme was supported by COGTA, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Youth Desk, Community in Blue Patrollers, MEG Security, JB Marks Municipality, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the Department of Social Development, Tlokwe Crisis Centre, the Department of Health, NICDAM, Yekanani Dignity, Ponelopele Sechaba NPA, Sekologa Warona NPO, Blue Ribbon and Standard Bank. Approximately 200 community members attended the event and actively participated in the discussions and awareness sessions. Informative pamphlets were distributed to reinforce the messages shared during the presentations, while bread and soup were served to attendees in the spirit of Mandela Day and community service. The initiative highlighted the importance of collaboration among government departments, community organisations and the private sector in building safer communities, encouraging responsible fatherhood, promoting healthy lifestyles and inspiring men to become positive agents of change.
09 NW BULLETIN AUGUST 2026 JOUBERTON SAPS COMMEMORATES MANDELA DAY BY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Jouberton SAPS On 18 July 2026, Jouberton SAPS, in partnership with various stakeholders, hosted a Mandela Day celebration at the Jouberton Community Hall. The event brought together approximately 150 senior citizens and persons with disabilities to honour the spirit of Nelson Mandela through community service, empowerment, and awareness. The programme focused on promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and senior citizens, while encouraging respect, dignity, and equal treatment for all members of society. Attendees were reminded that persons with disabilities should always be treated with respect and that they are entitled to receive services without discrimination. It was also highlighted that Jouberton SAPS has been designed to accommodate persons with disabilities, ensuring accessibility to police services. In addition, Community Service Centre (CSC) personnel were encouraged to prioritise assistance to persons with disabilities when they visit the station, and information charts outlining the rights of persons with disabilities are displayed within the CSC to educate and inform the public. The event was attended by representatives from SAPS, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Community in Blue (CIB), Spiritual Crime Prevention, the Office of the Executive Mayor, Matlosana Municipality Local Economic Development (LED), DPSA, Herotel, Mrs Bold North West, Miss North West Exclusive, Matlosana Disability Centre, Matlosana Traditional Group, and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The Mandela Day celebration reaffirmed the commitment of Jouberton SAPS and its partners to building an inclusive community where the rights of senior citizens and persons with disabilities are protected, respected, and promoted.
10AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN VENTERSDORP SAPS HOSTS MANDELA MONTH OUTREACH CAMPAIGN Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Ventersdorp SAPS On Friday, 24 July 2026, Ventersdorp SAPS, together with the Community in Blue (CIB), CPF District, Spiritual Crime Prevention, the Department of Education, and members of the business sector, conducted a Mandela Month outreach campaign within the Ventersdorp area. The stakeholders visited identified households that were in need of assistance and donated food parcels (hampers) and blankets to help improve the lives of vulnerable community members. A local primary school was also identified as a beneficiary, where hampers, 10 kg bags of maize meal, 10 bags of oranges, and school shoes were donated to support learners. During the outreach, SAPS encouraged community members and learners to become active partners in the fight against crime by reporting criminal activities and serving as police informers. The campaign also highlighted the importance of community involvement in creating a safer environment. The initiative reached one primary school and 12 households. The campaign was successfully conducted and was well received by the beneficiaries and the community
11 67 MINUTES FOR MANDELA DAY– TSHEPANG CARE GIVERS PROJECT Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Sgt K Moshweu NW BULLETIN AUGUST 2026 On Friday, 17 July 2026, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), SAPS, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Health, and the Department of Education joined hands to commemorate the 67 Minutes for Mandela Day at Tshepang Care Givers Project. During the event, community members were informed about the various services offered by the participating departments and how these services are available to assist and improve the lives of residents. The departments also rendered services directly to members of the community throughout the programme. The event featured entertainment by a gumboot dance group and a traditional dance group, whose performances kept the audience engaged and celebrated the spirit of Mandela Day. Approximately 200 community members attended the event, which promoted service delivery, community engagement, and collaboration among stakeholders while honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela. 11
12AUGUST 2026 NW BULLETIN Article by: Intern Boipelo Mogale Pictures: Ngaka Modiri Molema District DITSHOSWANENG SECTION IN AGISANANG LOCATION CELEBRATES MANDELA DAY On Friday, 17 July 2026, the Ngaka Modiri Molema district commissioner office celebrated the “ Good Samaritan & meals on wheels” awareness campaign on GBVF, drugs and substance abuse, inquest arson, house breaking and theft as well as money wise as part of the Mandela Day initiative in Agisanang location near Sannieshof. SAPS member Lieutenant Colonel Phajane from the office of NMM district commissioner dis a presentation on GBVF and drug & substance abuse, while constable Pitso from Sannieshof spoke to the community members on community safety, closing off the presentations , Warrant officer Molusi touched on house breaking, theft, and assaults , Ms Kgengwe from Delareyville post bank discussed the misuse of grants (money) . Sannieshof CPF member, Mr Molefe alongside other members assisted with serving soup and bread to the community members during the initiative. Food parcels, clothes and toiletries were among the necessities that were handed over to the Moepi’s family following having her shack built by the SAPS and CPF members. The event was a success and this served as SAP’s continued dedication to strengthening partnerships and humanity as well as building trust.
131213 NW BULLETIN AUGUST 2026 CPR TRAINING EMPOWERS SAPS MEMBERS IN BOJANALA SUB-DISTRICT 2 Article and pictures by: WO O Mokgadi In commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, Net care Fern crest Hospital partnered with SAPS to present Basic CPR training to members of the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 at the District Office in Phokeng. The training was well attended by both operational and support members from across the district and was led by the Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae. During the practical and interactive session, experienced Netcare healthcare professionals and paramedics demonstrated life-saving CPR techniques while members actively participated in practical exercises and engaged in a question-and-answer session to enhance their understanding. At the conclusion of the training, all participants received certificates of attendance in recognition of their participation. Brigadier Ntoagae expressed her appreciation to Netcare Ferncrest Hospital for its valuable partnership and commitment to empowering SAPS members with essential life-saving skills. She further expressed her commitment to strengthening future collaboration between SAPS and Netcare through similar initiatives that benefit both members and the communities they serve.
