Together, we deliver a diverse curriculum aligned with Welsh Government priorities and local needs. The MTCBC Adult Community Learning team offers a wide range of learning opportunities for adults aged 19 and over across the Borough. Through our “Learning Your Way” approach, we are committed to providing a dynamic, inclusive, and learner- focused experience. Our courses are designed to reflect Welsh Government skills priorities, while also responding to the needs and interests of our learners within the community. Whether you are looking to build confidence, gain new skills, or work towards a recognised qualification, we offer flexible options to support your journey. Learning with us is informal and friendly, delivered in a variety of community settings across the borough and online, making it accessible and convenient for all. MTCBC The College Merthyr Tydfil (TCMT) is a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Merthyr Tydfil. The college offers a range of part-time and full-time vocational courses, A levels, Degrees and Professional qualifications. We offer a broad curriculum from pre-entry learning through to Level four qualifications. Our programmes cover essential skills and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Employability and Wellbeing as well as advanced qualifications in areas such as Youth Work, Education and Training, and Counselling. www.adultlearning.wales Adult Learning Wales The University of South Wales delivers courses online and locally in Merthyr Tydfil on behalf of the National Centre for Learning Welsh. The lessons are friendly and informal; with the emphasis on speaking Welsh from day one. The Welsh courses range from beginner level to proficiency level and can be studied at a leisurely or intensive pace. We aim to support personal development, employment prospects, and essential life skills. Learning Opportunities New Partners COURSES OVERVIEW DIGITAL & IT SKILLS Build confidence and practical digital skills for everyday life and work. Topics include: • Using devices, the internet, email, and online services • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Online safety and scam awareness • Teams, Zoom, social media, and digital communication • Digital skills for employment and job searching NUMERACY & LITERACY Develop essential reading, writing, speaking, listening, and maths skills from Entry Level to Level 2. Benefits: • Improve confidence in everyday tasks • Gain practical literacy and numeracy skills • Progress to further learning or employment Courses are flexible and tailored to individual needs. ESSENTIAL SKILLS (ESW) Gain recognised qualifications in: • Communication: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills • Application of Number: Practical maths for everyday life and work Courses run from Entry Level to Level 2, with Level 2 equivalent to GCSE Grade C and recognised by employers and universities. LANGUAGE SKILLS (ESOL) Delivered through a partnership between The College Merthyr Tydfil and Adult Learning Wales. Options include: • Full-time ESOL courses from Beginner to Level 2 • Flexible part-time community classes Courses help learners improve English, numeracy, digital skills, and employability, supporting progression into education, employment, and community life. Sessions take place in community venues meaning you can learn locally and at your own pace – It’s Learning Your Way! “6 01685 725 000 Compass Community Hub provides free training, learning opportunities, and support for people aged 16 and over living in Merthyr Tydfil. The project helps individuals develop new skills, build confidence, improve wellbeing, and increase their employability. Through a range of courses, workshops, and community activities, participants are supported to achieve their personal goals, whether that involves finding employment, changing careers or progressing in work. Compass Community Hub STEP aim to ensure that those with parental responsibilities have the necessary skills and confidence and are actively engaged, in supporting the physical, emotional/ social and educational development of their children so that the family can enjoy positive and meaningful lives. STEP is here to give advice, tips, information and guidance on various aspects of your child’s development. Through group and one to one support we cover a range of topics aimed at helping parents of children and young people aged 0 – 16. STEP
