The School Chronicles Voices,Vision,Value GREENFINGERS GLOBAL SCHOOL July-September 2026 Volume 1 I Issue 2Let's celebrate the essence of unity, diversity, and freedom that our nation proudly stands for 1
From the Principal’s Desk Independence Day is a celebration of freedom and a gentle reminder of the responsibility that comes with it. As we remember with gratitude the sacrifices of those who shaped our nation’s journey, let us also reflect on the India we wish to build. True independence lies in having the courage to make the right choices, the strength to take responsibility for our actions, and the compassion to care for others. May our students grow into confident, kind, and responsible citizens who carry the spirit of freedom in their hearts and use it to make a positive difference. Let us celebrate our freedom with pride, live our responsibilities with purpose, and together nurture a brighter tomorrow. Jai Hind! Message from the Editorial Team A flag can fly freely. But who keeps its spirit alive? Freedom was gifted to us by those who dreamed of a better India. Responsibility is the part of that dream that belongs to us. Today, independence is not only about the freedom we enjoy, but about the choices we make with that freedom—to question, to care, to create, to respect, and to stand up for what is right. Perhaps the truest way to honour freedom is not to celebrate it for a day, but to live it responsibly every day. This edition of The School Chronicles explores that journey— from being free… to being worthy of freedom. “Freedom is inherited. Responsibility is lived.” 2 Mrs. Anju Vedi Principal , GFGS
Freedom is not merely the celebration of a historic day; it is the living spirit of a nation that continues to inspire every generation. It is the legacy of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination left behind by our freedom fighters, who dreamed of an India where every citizen could live with dignity, equality, and hope. As teachers, we believe that true freedom is deeply connected with knowledge, values, and responsibility. Education empowers young minds to think independently, make ethical choices, respect diversity, and contribute meaningfully to society. Every lesson taught, every value nurtured, and every dream encouraged in the classroom is a step towards building a stronger and more compassionate nation. Our students are the architects of tomorrow's India. By cultivating honesty, empathy, resilience, and a spirit of service, we prepare them not only for successful careers but also for responsible citizenship. Patriotism is reflected not only in grand celebrations but also in our everyday actions—respecting our Constitution, protecting our environment, embracing unity in diversity, and striving for excellence in all that we do. This Independence Day, let us honour the sacrifices of our heroes by carrying forward their vision with dedication and purpose. May we inspire our children to dream big, work hard, and uphold the values that make our nation strong. Together, let us pledge to build an India that is peaceful, inclusive, innovative, and prosperous—an India that every citizen is proud to call home. "Freedom flourishes when knowledge enlightens, values guide, and every citizen chooses to make a positive difference." Wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind! IN NEW INDIA PATRIOTISM Before I start this article, I believe it is important to clarify the meaning of “Patriotism”. Patriotism, in its strictest terms, refers to a person’s sense of love and devotion for their respective state and/or country. I think the best way to approach and discuss the current status of India’s patriotism would be to compare it with the past and see what it lacks in comparison, or what it does significantly better. Historically, India is actually one of the few countries that nourished the idea of “Patriotism”. Against their British oppressors, our ancestors united their forces in various movements and struggles that eventually contributed to the end of British rule. However, I would like to point out that their forces were strongest when ‘combined’, as in, united, such as during the Revolt of 1857, when people from different communities found a common cause. Even the rebellion of 1857, which posed a serious challenge to British rule, ultimately failed due in part to a lack of unity and coordination among the various rulers and groups involved. Now, you may wonder how patriotism plays a part in this — unity, specifically, and how India seems to lack it even today. Patriotism, I believe, should carry a deeper meaning than a person simply loving one’s own country. Patriotism must also include the act of treating other people in your nation as your own, regardless of their differences. That is how the people will be able to nourish their own country, by working together. The statement that there lies “strength in numbers” is not false at all. In a country like India, it is, in fact, quite applicable. However, in a country like India, division is found nearly everywhere. There are language barriers in certain states, religious differences can sometimes take a violent form, and women still seem to suffer greatly in some parts of the country because of corruption and violent patriarchy. Because of these common forms of division found throughout the country, despite our population, it is rather difficult for us to unify. Hence, there can never truly be mass action taken to “change” the country or force the government to abide more by us, as the war won’t be fought for the country, but would in fact be fought among the people themselves. A Step Towards Unity In our current situation, though, things seem to have taken at least a minor change. After the controversy surrounding the NEET examination and allegations of irregularities and leaks, social- media communities such as the “Cockroach Janta Party” gained attention. Since the issue concerned education, a basic need for all people, it provided an opportunity for individuals from different backgrounds to find common ground. Even though I did not actually support them, I believe this was a step taken in the right direction. This small step towards unification is what will possibly lead to the betterment of true patriotism, where the people will eventually learn to accept each other and use that unity to better their country. -By Tarun Moolya 4
PATRIOTISM TODAY “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”. This quote has inspired me since childhood. For many people patriotism means saluting the national flag or celebrating Independence day. For me, patriotism is much more than that. It is about loving our country, respecting its values and serving it with honesty and dedication in whatever role we are given. I was born into a family where serving the nation has always been a tradition. My greatgrandfather, grandfather and father have all served the country. My father first served in the BORDER SECURITY FORCE (BSF) and later joined the Tamil Nadu Police. Watching him wear the uniform and hearing his experiences filled me with pride and inspired me from a very young age. Since then, I dreamed of becoming an Army oAicer and serving my motherland. Life however had diAerent plans for me. After completing my 1st year of college, I got married and later became the mother of two wonderful sons. I had to pause my education and focus on my family. Although my path changed, My dream never disappeared. Every time I see our Tiranga fluttering proudly, it reminds me that my love for my country is still alive and that I should never stop working towards my goal. I completed a few diploma courses, but deep inside I knew I wanted to continue my education. Today I am pursing a BCA and my next goal is to prepare for SSC CGL examination. For me, this is not just another competitive exam. It is a chance to serve my country through the Government of India. My aim is not only to build a successful career but also to contribute to the progress of our nation. In today’s world, Patriotism is not limited to soldiers standing at the borders. Every teacher who educates children, every doctor who saves lives, every police and higher oAicials who protects people, every government employee who works honestly and every responsible citizen who follows the law is helping to builds a stronger India. True patriotism is shown through our action, our honesty and our commitments to making our country a better place. Life does not always go the way we expect. Sometimes our dreams take a diAerent path. But I believe that if our intention is pure and our love for our country is genuine, we can still serve India in meaningful ways. We should never give up on our dreams or stop believing in ourselves.’ My childhood dream of wearing the uniform may have changed with time but my desire to serve my country has never changed. I will continue to work hard and dedicate myself to India in every way I can. When my journey on this earth comes to an end, my greatest honour would be to rest beneath the Tiranga. To me, there is no such greater pride than dedicating my life to my country. Jai Hind P. BIRUNDHA 5

LIEUTENANT COMMANDER SHIVAM KUMAR Greenfingers Global School extends its warmest most enthusiastic congratulations to Lieutenant Commander Shivam Kumar on being awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra, proudly commending his exceptional bravery and unyielding devotion to the nation. Stepping up during a high-stakes crisis in the Gulf of Aden, where he repeatedly entered a severely damaged and burning LPG tanker filled with toxic fumes and the constant threat of a secondary explosion, his actions demonstrated the absolute highest standards of military professionalism and selflessness. True bravery extends far beyond physical acts of daring; it encompasses the quiet strength of character required to stand firm in the face of extreme peril and shoulder immense responsibility for the safety and dignity of others. Lieutenant Commander Kumar’s exemplary conduct embodies this ideal, reminding us of the extraordinary sacrifices made daily by members of the armed forces to safeguard our collective security, freedom, and maritime trade. His remarkable achievement serves as a profound source of inspiration for students and faculty alike, illustrating how technical expertise, integrity, and steadfast courage can shine through even the darkest circumstances. The entire school community offers its deepest gratitude for his valiant service, celebrating this well-deserved national recognition with immense pride. 10 Spot the differences EGYPTIAN PUZZLE Old records show that this area of the desert contains the tombs of 1 scribe (a large tomb covering 3 squares), 3 artisans (medium, 2 squares) and 1 merchant (small, 1 square). A survey has gathered information of where tombs could be. Each number tells you how many squares are part of a tomb in that row or column. Tombs are not adjacent (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). A trial dig in one corner found the tomb of an artisan (marked with a T). Can you work out where all the tombs are without further digging?
