WHAT IS KÁNTIGAS? THREE ACTS. JOURNEY. UNCOVERING. ELEGY. The name KÁNTIGAS evokes the cantigas of the medieval Iberian tradition: songs and poetic compositions that recall a world where languages, music and cultures met. The K introduces a deliberate variation in its spelling, giving the title its own distinctive identity. KÁNTIGAS is a stage creation by Tap Tales inspired by the history of al-Andalus and the legacy of the three cultures that came together in this landscape. Through three acts — Journey, Uncovering and Elegy — music and dance explore the traces these cultures left upon one another. Like layers gradually being unveiled, the work reveals connections between different eras and shows how the past remains present in our cultural memory. Tap dance runs through this journey as a language that brings sound and movement together in a unique artistic expression.
MUSIC AND DANCE AS ONE ACTION At Tap Tales, tap dance is both music and dance in equal measure. Movement generates sound, and sound shapes the choreography. In KÁNTIGAS, this language moves through three musical worlds in dialogue, connecting original compositions with works from different periods and traditions.
