Die klank-, video- en beligtingsafdeling kon begin om hul pro- dukte te bemark. Die klank-, video- en beligtingsafdeling het die handels- merk gebruik om hul produkte te begin bemark, terwyl die musiekonderrigafdeling daarop gemik was om ‘n grot- er gehoor te bereik en studente-inskrywings te verhoog. Hierdie plakkaat is geskep om die kun- sroete op die Florida-kampus te adverteer. Dit is vir beide die druk en sosiale media omgewing ontwerp. But let’s hope he doesn’t pay too much heed to the hype his singular talent attracts. Recorded live at Carnegie Hall last year, this set of the Goldberg Variations was dubbed ‘history in the mak- ing’, which seems a little extreme. And to discover that Lim has been pondering the Goldbergs all his life, I can’t help but draw a wry smile giv- en that he was all of 21 at the time of the recording! The best recordings of Bach’s Goldberg Variations Over the top? Well yes, but perhaps only a little because this is a set that takes its seat confidently at the top table and, in places, is touched with genius. Un- derpinning Lim’s approach is a playfulness that ani- mates even the most ar- cane examples of Bach’s compositional cunning. And with one important caveat, each variation is individually characterised yet never loses sight of Bach’s long-term strategy. Insouciantly Variation 9 paves the way to the pugnacious Fughetta which follows; and while Variation 13 strays a little dangerously into whimsy, the hurtling virtuosity of Variation 14 gives whimsy short shrift. Some of the variations prove jaw-droppingly exhilarating, and the scuttling perpetu- um mobile of Variation 5 is a scintillating white-knuckle ride, its vertiginous key- board-hopping tossed off with a devil-may-care exu- berance that also informs the hands-entangling Varia- tion 20. 03

Reason, Memory and Politics. Wat is die omvang van ’n Afrika filosoof se identiteiet en werk? Hoe bly Afrika filosofie relevant in die era van globalisering? Dit is twee van die vrae wat Emmanuel Chukwudi Eze aanspreek. Sister Outsiders The representation of identity and difference in selected writings by South African Indian women Queer Kingship Queer Kinship bied ‘n stimulerende perspektiewe oor liefde, behoo- rt, familie en identiteit binne die Suid-Afrikaanse konteks. Die ver- sameling dek verskeie onderwerpe, dissiplines en teoretiese benade- rings in. Muziki Muziki fokus op Afrikaanse musieknavorsing. Dit publiseer akad- emiese artikels en resensies wat verband hou met musiekteorie en -praktyk regoor die Afrika-kontinent. 05 Julie Reid: Die boekomslag- ontwerp vir Media Diversi- ty in SouthAfrica oorbrug pragtig die visuele en kon- septuele - die geometriese patrone en warm kleurpalet dui dadelik op die boek se betrokkenheid by die Afri- kaanse konteks, wat presies is wat ek wou hê die omslag moes oordra. Terselfdertyd maak die skoon, moderne tipografie en gelaagde uitleg dit toeganklik vir die leser, terwyl dit ’n tikkie dinamika byvoeg in Rede, Geheue en Politiek.
Creative • Skilled • Timeous PORTEFEULJE DVD’s The South African Jazz Song Book The South African Jazz Songbook, is ’n merkwaardige opname van 14 Suid-Afrikaanse Jazz Standaarde ontwikkel vir saxofoon, vol orkeste en jazzritme orkeste. Dit is aanlyn en in winkels beskikbaar. Ancetral Home Internasionaal bekende saksofoon- speler Karen Devroop het Ancestral Home vrygestel. Dit is ‘n vloeiende jazz-opname wat sy bekende sakso- foonstyl ten toon stel.. Esta disco no seria posible sin la ayuda y la energía creativa de Trino Jiménez que convirtió mis composiciones en increíbles obras de arte. Eres un músico increíble y un ser humano maravilloso. Es una verdadera bendición tenerte en este álbum. Gracias mi hermano! The design work stood out for its blend of colour and graphic design that complemented the music. The album art- work was exceptionally well received by listeners, radio stations and online media that did reviews worldwide. With two tracks peaking at #1 and #3 on the jazz charts internationally, this album probably received the widest possible international circulation from all of my albums, thereby representing the reach of Ella’s design work. I am deeply grateful to Ella for her amazing skills and outstanding profes- sionalism on this album and all of the design work she has done for me over the years.
Creative • Skilled • TimeousPORTEFEULJE Stokperdjies Bonsai Ek het my eerste bonsaiboek in die 1980’s gekoop, maar het gevaal met elke poging om ’n boom te kweek. Ek het eers begin slaag nadat ek in 2019 by ’n bonsaiklub aangesluit het. My bome sluit in ’n spekboom (van ’n takkie gekweek, 4 jaar oud), ’n Wortel-oor-klip privet (van ’n saailing gekweek, 6 jaar oud), en ’n Burtt-Dav- ey ficus (ongeveer 30 jaar oud). Pottebakkery Pottebakkery was een van my vakke tydens my BA kunsstudies. Alhoewel ek daar- oor gefassineer was, het ek eers later na pottebakkery teruggekeer om my eie bon- saipotte te maak. 07

Ek bou beelde en landskappe met dinamiese strepe en gelaagde kleure, wat bewe- ging, tekstuur en emosie toelaat om die finale kom- posisie te vorm. Tekenkuns My tekenstyl is meer formeel en gestruktureerd. Ek skep beelde deur toonvariasie, lynwerk en pun- tillisme, en gebruik kontraste om vorm en detail te definieer.
