PUBLISHING One of the most important lessons I have learned in my life is that mistakes are valuable opportunities for growth. I strongly believe this because of my own personal experiences. During my early years as a student, I placed too much pressure on myself to achieve perfect results. I still remember feeling extremely nervous before presentations because I was afraid that my classmates would judge my mistakes or that my lecturers would not be satisfied with my performance. This fear often prevented me from expressing my ideas confidently. For example, I constantly worried about my presentation performance, receiving low marks in examinations, and whether the ideas and opinions I shared with others were good enough. However, I gradually realized that every mistake I made helped me improve my knowledge, develop new skills, and become better at solving the problems and challenges I encountered. According to the OECD (2021), embracing mistakes as learning opportunities contributes to greater resilience and academic success. In the past, whenever I received feedback on my homework or examination papers, I focused only on my weaknesses and mistakes. As a result, I often felt disappointed and lost the motivation to continue studying. Now, instead of feeling discouraged, I carefully review every mistake I have made and apply my lecturers' suggestions to my future assignments. This helps me avoid repeating the same mistakes while continuously improving my weaknesses. Looking back, I realize that mistakes provide valuable information about my learning process. Every correction from my lecturers is not simply criticism but also guidance that shows me how to improve my future work. These experiences have taught me that mistakes are not symbols of failure but essential steps towards success. Without making mistakes, I would never know which areas require improvement.
PUBLISHING Another reason why I believe progress is more important than perfection is that it encourages a growth mindset. Previously, I often compared my academic performance with that of my classmates and cousins. Unfortunately, this made me feel stressed and discouraged whenever they performed better than I did. However, I eventually realized that every student has different strengths, learning styles, and study habits. Instead of competing with others, I began focusing on improving myself because my goal is to become a better version of who I was yesterday. I started setting realistic academic goals, beginning with small and achievable targets before gradually taking on more challenging ones. To achieve these goals, I worked on improving my English writing skills, participated more actively in class discussions, and managed my study and rest time more effectively. Although my progress was slow and gradual, every small achievement motivated me to continue improving. This positive mindset has made me more confident and courageous in facing new challenges and overcoming difficulties. Now, I understand that success should be measured by personal improvement rather than by being better than everyone else.
PUBLISHING Progress also requires consistency and discipline. As an IPG student, I have learned that success does not happen overnight. Every semester involves numerous assignments, projects, presentations, and examinations that require careful planning and effective time management. Instead of waiting until the last minute to complete my work, I now complete my tasks step by step. This habit enables me to produce higher-quality work while reducing stress because I finish my assignments earlier. There are times when I feel tired or unmotivated to continue working towards my goals. However, I always remind myself that even small daily efforts contribute to long-term success. Consistent practice has helped me improve my academic performance and develop better learning habits. It has also given me the confidence to communicate more frequently in English, participate actively in classroom discussions, and continue improving my language skills. Therefore, I believe that discipline is one of the most important factors in achieving continuous progress because it keeps us moving forward even when motivation decreases.
PUBLISHING As a future teacher, I know that I will face many responsibilities and challenges. Teaching is not only about delivering lessons according to the syllabus but also about inspiring students to believe in themselves. My experiences as a student have shown me that learning is a continuous journey, and no one becomes excellent or successful overnight. Every lesson, teaching practice, classroom observation, and assignment helps me develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for my future profession. I hope to create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to learn from their mistakes without fearing failure. I want my students to understand that effort, perseverance, and continuous improvement are far more valuable than achieving perfect results. By embracing this mindset, I believe that both my students and I will continue to grow together throughout our educational journey.
