Lorenzo’s faith extended beyond words; it was evident in how he lived and loved. He carried his values into every aspect of his life—from his work as a longshoreman to his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Known for his unapologetic advice and disciplined approach to life, Lorenzo inspired those around him to pursue their goals with integrity and honor. Lorenzo Jamerson, a man of profound faith, resilience, and unwavering love, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in Pasadena, Texas, at the remarkable age of 103. Born on August 14, 1922, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Herbert and Pearlie Jamerson, Lorenzo’s life was a testament to perseverance, courage, and an unshakable trust in God. Raised in Gary, Indiana, during the Jim Crow era, Lorenzo faced adversity with determination and grace. He pursued education in New York, standing firm in his commitment to excellence despite the challenges of the time. His journey eventually led him to the South, where he achieved his dream of becoming a longshoreman. Through this career, he traveled the world by sea, broadening his horizons and gaining a global perspective that shaped his vision for life. Lorenzo’s steadfast resolve was evident in every chapter of his life. After moving to Texas, he fulfilled another dream: purchasing a home on an acre of land where he would reside for over 50 years. As the first Black man to purchase a home on Bay Street, he faced significant resistance—so much so that he had to secure legal assistance just to finalize the deal. Yet Lorenzo never accepted “no” as an answer. Every obstacle became an opportunity to prove his strength and determination. A proud World War II veteran, Lorenzo served his country with honor before returning home to build a legacy rooted in faith and family. His life was deeply intertwined with his devotion to God. As a dedicated deacon at Greater St. Matthew's Church in Hitchcock, Texas, Lorenzo’s presence was unwavering. He believed in showing up—not just for Sunday service but for every moment that required faith in action. His prayer life was a cornerstone of his existence; night after night, he lifted up his family with heartfelt prayers of protection and love. To those who knew him, these prayers were sacred—a powerful reminder of his spiritual commitment.ReflectionsReflections O F L I F E He leaves behind a legacy of strength and perseverance that will continue to inspire generations. LoveLoveEXPRESSIONS OFIn Loving Memory With love and gratitude, we honor the life of our beloved grandfather, a man of strength, wisdom, and deep faith. He was a guiding light in our family, showing us the power of love, patience, and following God through every season of life. As it is written in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me.” Grandpa, your life was a blessing, and your legacy will live on in us. I will continue to follow God, just as you showed me. Love, Your granddaughter, Trenea Baugh It’s hard to find the right words because losing you has left a pain that runs deep. You were more than my grandfather—you were strength, wisdom, love, and family all in one. Your presence brought comfort, your words brought guidance, and your love brought us all together. Thank you for every lesson you taught, every laugh we shared, and every memory you gave me that I will carry forever. The love you showed and the legacy you built will never be forgotten. Even though you are no longer here in person, your spirit will live on through all of us. I will miss your voice, your smile, and the way you made everyone around you feel loved. Rest peacefully, Grandpa. You will always be loved, always be missed, and always remain in my heart. “The two years I spent with my grandfather changed my life forever. In that short time, we lived through so much fleeing to Austin from a hurricane, the winter storm, even covid. I remember leaving him notes around the house, making sure I protected him, didn’t want him getting Covid at the age 101, while still wanting him to feel my love in every corner. But what I gained in those moments… was everything. Being with him felt like a living university…one that taught me what real wealth looks like. Not just money, but legacy, strength, faith, and perseverance. He didn’t just talk about it, he lived it. He is the reason I move the way I do today. The reason I build. The reason I lead. The reason I refuse to settle. Grandpa, I will never forget what you’ve poured into me. Your life didn’t just impact me,it activated me. I love you forever ♾ ~TRENEA BAUGH, GRANDDAUGHTERBRIAN GARRETT, GRANDSONTRENIQUE B. GARRETT, GRANDDAUGHTER
