On June 17, 2024, at the 28th ICYM Council held in Mysore, the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) marked a monumental milestone with the official launch of our digital publication, Arise & Shine. It was created as a vibrant, accessible E-Magazine to amplify youth voices, chronicle our faith, and celebrate community achievements across the region. We hold immense gratitude for that inaugural digital legacy, which beautifully united us. However, a dynamic youth movement never stands still; it continuously evolves alongside the generation it serves. As we step into a brand-new chapter, the time has come to elevate our digital presence, expand our horizons, and bring a completely refreshed experience to your screens. With this exciting leap forward, we are thrilled to announce a complete reimagining of our digital publication. We are officially launching a brand-new, cutting-edge E-Magazine under a fresh identity and name: YUVODAYA. While the banner and format are being elevated, our core mission remains entirely untouched. Issue 1 Page 4 ABOUT KRYC The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC), established in January 1985 under the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRCBC), is the premier body animating young minds across the state's 14 dioceses. Headquartered in Bangalore, KRYC thrives under the leadership of President Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, Chairman Most Rev. Dr. Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary, Joint Chairman Most Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, and Secretary Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, alongside Joint Secretary Sr. Lenita Lobo AC. Together, they guide the commission in fostering a unified pastoral vision for the next generation. Driven by the powerful motto, "To Enlighten, To Enliven," KRYC works toward the integral and holistic development of every young person. The commission actively nurtures physical, psychological, social, economic, technological, and spiritual well-being. By fostering leadership skills and a strong sense of civic duty, KRYC inspires personal and collective transformations, equipping young people to confront modern challenges and bring about positive social change. To achieve this, KRYC coordinates powerful foundational movements tailored to different life stages, including YCS/YSM for high school and PUC students, ICYM for young adults aged 18 to 30, and MIJARC for rural youth focusing on sustainable agriculture. It also serves as a collaborative umbrella for prominent groups like ABIDE, AICUF, Bosco Youth, Jesus Youth, YOUCAT and YU4C etc. Through this dynamic network, KRYC places special emphasis on supporting marginalized youth and rural development, successfully shaping the vibrant youth of Karnataka into deeply compassionate, highly responsible citizens and truly transformative leaders for tomorrow's world.

Issue 1 Page 5 Dear Youths, It gives me great joy to learn about the launch of YUVODAYA, the official e-magazine of the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission. The very name YUVODAYA: “the dawn of a new beginning” beautifully reflects the hope, enthusiasm, and promise that our young people bring to the life and mission of the Church. The Word of God beautifully exhorts, “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Tim 4:12) It is a timely reminder that young people are not merely the future of the Church but its vibrant present. Through their faith, creativity, and generosity, they are called to be witnesses of Christ and ambassadors of hope in society. I am confident that YUVODAYA will become a meaningful platform for communication and collaboration among the youth ministries of the fourteen dioceses of Karnataka. By sharing pastoral initiatives, formation programmes, and inspiring stories, it will strengthen bonds of unity and encourage greater participation in the mission of the Church. I congratulate the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission on this commendable initiative and thank all those who have contributed to its launch. May YUVODAYA inspire our young people to grow in faith, foster communion among our dioceses, and become a beacon of hope for the Church in Karnataka. Issue 1 Page 6 YOUTH OF KARNATAKA KEEP RUNNING Dear leaders & youth of the Karnataka Region, it gives me immense joy and pride to witness the grand launch of YUVODAYA – the official E- Magazine of Karnataka Regional Youth Commission! Please recall what Pope Francis has said, “Dear young people, my joyful hope is to see you keep running the race before you, outstripping all those who are slow or fearful. Keep running, attracted by the face of Christ, whom we love so much.” (Apostolic Exhortation, Christ is Alive 299). I echo the same call to the Catholic youth of Karnataka - keep running and never give up because the love of the Lord is worth every sacrifice and every challenge. The youth of today need to run towards Jesus – their all-time friend, towards His Church, towards the Joy of the Gospel, towards their dream to be leaders and achievers, towards their families, the unity of all Christians, inter- religious relations and nation-building. While running, it’s good to keep in mind the wise sayings: Your dreams do not disappear because of one mistake; they disappear when excuses become stronger than commitment. The hardest decisions are not between what is good and bad; they are between what is easy now and what is better later. Many people pray for a better future while making decisions that are building a worse one. Your choices must agree with your prayers. Impatience makes people abandon good opportunities too early. Patience gives opportunities enough time to become valuable. Just because something is taking time, does not mean it is not working. It is with great joy that we present this edition of the KRYC Regional E-Magazine, celebrating the dreams, leadership, and commitment of young people across Karnataka. A Story to Inspire A farmer planted bamboo seeds. For four years, nothing appeared above the ground, yet he continued to water the soil every day. In the fifth year, the bamboo grew nearly ninety feet in just a few weeks. The growth was not sudden-the roots had been growing all along. So it is with our lives. Every prayer, every act of service, every sacrifice, and every effort strengthens the roots of our faith. In God's time, those hidden efforts will bear abundant fruit. As Pope Leo XIV reminds us: "Dear young people, love one another in Christ… Friendship can truly change the world." Issue 1 Page 11 ORGANIZATION WITH KRYC ABIDE ABIDE is a progressive youth movement operating under the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC), serving as a dedicated association for past members of ICYM Karnataka. The movement is driven by a profound vision to form an "Enlightened, Empowered, and Dedicated Catholic Youth for a Better Society." It channels this vision through its central mission: "Rejuvenate to Abide with ICYM Karnataka," which bridges the invaluable experience of its alumni with the ongoing youth movement. The name ABIDE is deeply biblical in nature, drawing its spiritual inspiration directly from the Gospel of John 15:4: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." Through this foundational scriptural grounding, the association fosters deep fellowship, spiritual renewal, and a continued commitment to community growth, ensuring past leaders remain fruitfully connected to the Church.
YUVODAYA - Volume 1 . Issue 1 Page 12 AICUF BOSCO YOUTH Founded in 1924 by Fr. Carty SJ at St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) is one of India’s oldest student movements. Affiliated with Pax Romana, it evolved from a local guild into a nationwide movement officially recognized by the CBCI in 1948. Guided by its powerful motto, "We are born in an unjust society and we are determined not to leave it as we have found it," AICUF is open to all university students in Catholic institutions. This student-centric movement envisions empowering youth to develop a spirituality centered on human dignity. It focuses on sensitizing students toward marginalized communities, equipping them physically, intellectually, and spiritually, and forming them into a creative force for social transformation. Through active reflection and social involvement, AICUF motivates young people to analyze global realities, engage with social issues, and passionately commit themselves to building a truly just and humane society. Initiated in Karnataka in 1997 by the Salesians of Don Bosco, BOSCO YOUTH is a prominent youth movement operating across five active zones to empower thousands of young people aged 15 to 29. Deeply rooted in St. John Bosco’s "Preventive System" of Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness, the movement guides individuals from rural and marginalized backgrounds toward self-reliance and active leadership. BOSCO YOUTH envisions a just, inclusive society that unreservedly cares for the well-being and rights of its youth. Its mission focuses on accompanying young people at risk, helping them transition from the margins to the center of society as responsible citizens. Through holistic character formation, skill development, and psychological support, the movement fosters democratic participation, professional growth, and active social and environmental engagement. By offering vocational tools and establishing structured local units, it successfully equips the next generation for positive social transformation and nation-building.

Issue 1 Page 13 ICYM JESUS YOUTH ICYM Karnataka is the regional chapter of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement, operating under the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission to empower Latin Rite Catholic youth across the state. Guided by its motto, “To Lead, To Serve, To Shine,” the movement focuses on holistic development through faith formation, leadership, social action, and community engagement. It envisions a renewed society rooted in faith, hope, and love, with a mission to inspire youth through Gospel values while promoting social responsibility and personal growth. ICYM Karnataka operates through a structured network extending from parish units to deanery, diocesan, regional, and national levels. This framework allows the movement to organize leadership camps, faith programs, and environmental or community service projects. Today, it unites thousands of young people from all dioceses of Karnataka, equipping them to become responsible leaders, live their faith actively, and contribute meaningfully to positive social change. Approved by the Holy See, Jesus Youth is an international Catholic missionary movement that challenges young people to live a Christ-centered life through a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. Operating under the motto, "A Missionary Movement at the Service of the Church," its vision is to form committed disciples who live their faith daily and actively share the message and love of Jesus. The movement's spirituality is built upon six foundational pillars: Prayer, the Word of God, Sacraments, Fellowship, Evangelisation, and an Option for the Poor. Through these pillars, Jesus Youth fosters lives rooted in Scripture, builds strong community fellowship, and encourages dedicated service to the poor and marginalized. Active across diverse areas of ministry - including campus, parish, family, and teen ministries, alongside social outreach and mission volunteering - the movement successfully equips young people for dynamic missionary discipleship worldwide.

Issue 1 Page 14 MIJARC YCS/YSM Established in Karnataka in 2004 and affiliated with the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, MIJARC Karnataka is the regional unit of the International Movement of Catholic Agricultural and Rural Youth. The movement is dedicated to organizing, educating, and empowering young people from rural and agricultural communities across the state's dioceses. Rooted in Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching, it addresses the social, economic, environmental, and spiritual needs of rural youth to foster holistic development. The movement envisions a just, sustainable, and inclusive society where rural youth are active participants in transforming their communities and safeguarding creation. Its mission focuses on promoting sustainable rural development, livelihood enhancement, environmental stewardship, and value- based leadership. Operating through the internationally recognized methodology of "See - Judge - Act," MIJARC Karnataka guides youth to observe rural realities, reflect on them through human values, and take collective action to bring about positive, sustainable change. Operating under the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, the Young Christian Students / Young Students Movement (YCS/YSM) is a dynamic, cell-based movement empowering teenagers and high school students to become agents of positive change. Inspired by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn’s vision, the movement follows the core methodology of "See – Judge – Act" to help students observe real-life challenges, reflect through faith and human dignity, and take practical action. With the motto “Building a New Society” and the mission “Change Self – Change Others,” YCS/YSM envisions a harmonious world rooted in peace, love, truth, justice, and equality. It drives personal and spiritual growth, develops value-based leadership, and builds awareness of social justice and environmental care. Operating through structured small cells from schools and parishes up to the regional level, the movement guides students alongside animators, ensuring they are active leaders capable of driving meaningful societal transformation today.

Issue 1 Page 15 YOUCAT YU4C The YOUCAT (Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) was initiated under Pope St. John Paul II and published in 2011 under Pope Benedict XVI, led by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn. Designed alongside young adults to present the Catholic faith in an accessible format, it has sold over 5 Officially launched during KAIROS 2008 in Mumbai, Youth United for Christ (YU4C) is the official youth movement of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in India, recognized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. It unified various regional ministries, such as Hosanna Youth in Bengaluru and Torchbearers for Christ in Mumbai, into a single national identity under CHARIS India. The movement provides a vibrant platform for young people to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ while actively participating in the Church's life and mission. YU4C envisions empowering young people to become committed disciples. Its mission focuses on fostering spiritual and personal growth through prayer, formation, and fellowship, while equipping young leaders to evangelize. Built upon the core pillars of Faith, Fellowship, Formation, and Mission, YU4C effectively encourages responsible participation in the Catholic Church, fostering leadership skills and Catholic values to help youth serve their communities as active witnesses in society. million copies in 25 languages. Structured around four pillars-Belief, Sacraments, Moral Life, and Prayer-its 527 Q&A entries, marginalia, and CCC cross-references provide a contemporary foundation for youth faith formation. In India, YOUCAT INDIA operates under the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, led by Director Fr. Vijay Machado, in collaboration with the CCBI Youth Commission. Driven by a 20-member youth leadership team, the movement operates specialized wings-including Intercessory, Social Media, Study Session, Hindi Missionary, Medical College and other institutional networks to strengthen young people's faith. Programmatically, YOUCAT India conducts various activities equipping young Catholics to active evangelization globally and nationally.

Issue 1 Page 16 KRYC EVENTS 30TH KRYC COUNCIL U-POWER The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) Council Meeting took place on May 15, 2026 at KROSS, Bangalore, bringing together around 72 delegates, including Directors, Lady Animators, Presidents, and representatives from all 14 dioceses & 9 movements. The session opened with prayer, followed by presentation of annual reports from dioceses and youth movements. KRYC Secretary Rev. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza felicitated outgoing Director Rev. Fr. Lourd Raj and Joint Secretary Sr. Molly (2024–2026) for their dedicated service. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Lourd Raj, Rev. Fr. Aswin Cardoza, and KRYC President Ms. Vileena Gonsalves, elections were conducted to choose the new Executive Core Team, including newly appointed Joint Secretary Sr. Lenita Lobo AC. The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) conducted its first "U-Power" Live-in Council Meeting on June 6–7, 2026, aimed at empowering youth through Christ- centered servant leadership. Inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza, the program included spiritual reflections, Eucharistic Adoration, and a session by Fr. Anil Prasad on navigating leadership in the era of Artificial Intelligence. The council adopted three core Pastoral Plan objectives focused on interfaith harmony, leadership formation, and youth-driven social and digital action. Proposals were introduced for a counselors' conclave, career guidance programs with Bosco Youth Group, and YOUCAT-based faith initiatives. A dedicated Media and Editorial Team was established to produce an e-magazine and media workshops. Moving forward, KRYC will hold annual council assemblies alongside monthly online meetings.
