Before JBL existed, audio engineer James B. Lansing co-founded the Lansing Manufacturing Company in 1927 to build cinema speakers. When his business partner died in a plane crash, the company faced collapse and was bought out to form Altec Lansing in 1941. Lansing spent five years under contract there before leaving to start a fresh company in 1946: James B. Lansing Sound Incorporated (later shortened to JBL). He immediately shook the industry by introducing the D130 15-inch loudspeaker, which delivered such a clean, powerful tone that guitar legend Leo Fender began swapping his factory amp speakers for them. While Lansing was an absolute genius at acoustic engineering, he struggled immensely with business finances. By 1949, mounting debts and an overwhelming sense of defeat drove him to take his own life at just 47 years old. He never lived to see the global empire his initials would build. Conquering the Big Stages (1950s–1970s) Following Lansing's death, vice president William Thomas took the reins and turned the company around financially. Over the next few decades, JBL redefined how the world experienced music: The Studio Revolution: In 1962, JBL introduced precision studio monitors that filled recording rooms, changing how music was mixed. Woodstock In 1969, a massive wall of JBL speakers powered the iconic Woodstock Music Festival, carrying sound across a legendary crowd of half a million people. The Harman Era Audio pioneer Sidney Harman bought JBL in 1969 via the Jervis Corporation (later Harman International Industries). Under Harman's backing, the JBL L100 home speaker launched and became the best-selling loudspeaker model of the 1970s decade. Expanding to Cars and Pockets (1980s–Present) In 1980, JBL brought its high-fidelity sound to the automotive world, partnering with automakers like Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. The turn of the century brought another massive evolution: wireless audio. Recognizing a massive cultural shift toward on-the-go music, JBL launched the ultra-popular Flip, Charge, and Clip bluetooth speaker lines, putting powerful sound right into consumer pockets. In 2017, Samsung Electronics completed an $8 billion acquisition of Harman International. Today, JBL continues to celebrate 80 years of heritage by pushing into advanced territories like spatial gaming audio through their Quantum series and AI-assisted sound technologies

The SCL-1 is a custom in-room/built-in loudspeaker and is the flagship of the JBL Synthesis SCL loudspeaker range. It features JBL's patented D2430K dual 3-inch (75mm) compression driver mated to a large format High-Definition Imaging (HDI ) horn. Dual 12-inch (300mm) Carbon Cellulose Composite Cone (C4) cast-frame woofers operate in a patented Complementary Bass Alignment System (CBAS ) enclosure to provide high-output capability while delivering an easy load to the amplifier. A front-panel configuration panel allows for bi-wiring, bi-amplification, and crossover bypass for fully active operation with outboard digital crossovers. The SSW- 1 delivers unparalleled performance behind projection screens and inside custom cabinetry and is ideal for use in large to extra-large rooms. Reducing the listener area generally improves bass uniformity and tightness within that measured region. However, if the correction is applied to a very small volume, it risks becoming too special- ised to that limited space, leading to excessive bass ampli cation in non-measured areas—especially along walls and in corners.A higher number of microphone positions within the listening area helps produce more balanced and less extreme correction lters.
