Section I: Friendship: The Circle Of Us During the teenage phase of life, young adolescents seek comfort and confide in their peers. They tend to make a world of their own where they co-exist with their companions. This unit sheds light upon the theme of friendship and its significance to the youth as a relation. The poetries embody the young minds’ feelings, emotions and challenges during the phase. 5

Friendship: The Most Beautiful Relationship Friendship is a treasure, which when sought, Gives the wealth of joy, warmth and comfort when things look distraught. It is an ocean of elation, contentment in which you go deeper and deeper, To strengthen your relations and make it sweeter. Friendship is a wonder and nothing but love and care, Where people lovingly say “I am there”. You call them your friend or mate, They will always show up, No matter what’s your state. A true friend or an angel is gold, Whenever you are down, the angel will be there to hold. Friends are lovely, soothing and kind, They are the loveliest people one can find. Friends are like roses who fill fragrance in your heart, They are the ones with whom, never even in a dream you would like to part. People may say that friends come and go, But you know, true friends would never do so. They would always be there for you, No matter where you go. 6

Who’s Gonna Be My Santa? Who’s gonna be my Santa Claus, Who’ll embrace me unconditionally with all my flaws. Someone who nurtures me with empathy and warmth on offer, Gold will be my fortune Having such priceless gifts they proffer. Who’s gonna be my Santa, Who’ll grace me with selfless love Fill my heart with tranquility, Just like the divine dove. It may be my family or mate, Exchange of warmth is a golden trait. Who’s gonna be my Santa, Who ignites power to spread love and smiles, And beam positivity till far away miles Someone who graces with virtuous compassion, Spreading happiness is my passion. You could be my Santa I could be yours, Affection is something that everyone adores. This Christmas, let us gift joy, To bring a smile on the faces of every girl and boy. 7

All I Want For Christmas Is You! You are a shining star whose light of positivity brightens me up, Your soothing voice and friendly smile spells a charm on me I wonder how you remain interested in my stories all along, Listening to them keenly all day long. You fill me with contentment and joy, Whenever I feel low, you somehow sense it Your reassuring smile transforms me again into a high- spirited boy. This beautiful bond of friendship is a gift we share between us two All I want for Christmas is you. I see in you a true friend I don’t feel that we’ve just met This is how we blend. Your thought brings a smile on my face My eyes lighten up when I see you All I want for Christmas is you. Just like a tune completes a song, An instrument completes a piece You fill my heart with the harmony of bliss and peace. People like you are very few All I want for Christmas is you.8 8

My Lost Friend I had a best friend, whom I lost I don’t know where, The place doesn’t seem to be anywhere on land or in the air. He was the one with whom I know I could share, I think I lost him but I don’t know where. Oh! I see a man here who resembles my friend, But I doubt whether he is my buddy, because The man here is cold, ignorant and unmannerly. He once used to call me his best friend too, But his behavior says it is not true. My friend has left our pond where only two fish swim, To escape into his ocean to find several such fish like him. Until we were together, I was elated and bright, But now as he is distancing away from me, I feel as if a star has started to loose its light. My friend might have gone far from me, I have fond memories of his which I reminisce in glee. I want to relive those and create many more. I had a best friend, whom I think I lost, But don’t know where, The place doesn’t seem to be anywhere on land or in the air. 9

Section II: The Echo Chamber The youth have a great dilemma and turmoil, when they lose connection with their loved ones and peers. It leads to constant fretting and mulling over what happened between the two friends . This feeling makes them feel uneasy and disappointed. The minds tend to become entropic, only thinking about them drifting apart and feeling lonely. This section captures the anguish, disappointment and loneliness that one goes through later during teenage. 10

The Noise Of Silence This silence perturbs my ears More than a noise could ever do, I realize we are drifting apart The silence’s awkwardness unnerves me More than anything else could ever do. This silence with its utmost muteness Conveys our reluctance to talk today, I always chuckle reminiscing the times When we used to chatter endlessly all day. Now we occasionally speak Only a few words we exchange, Then the uneasy silence creeps in To leave us confused about what to say, Both wait for each other to converse right away. However it never happens, I don’t know why, The two of us have just become too cold, Not being able to talk, how much ever we try. This stillness in the silence is calming in no way, It just agonizes me thinking of our parting ways. I hope our untold differences get resolved soon, I feel the absence of someone who is always by my side I hope this noise of silence settles down soon. 11

The Familiar Stranger I see a familiar face Who behaves like a stranger with me, It is hard to believe My eyes craved to see him once upon a time, It is hard to believe Best friends can also act As if they are meeting you for the first time. Now we walk past each other like strangers, Seldom do we ever see each other I wonder what went wrong I simply don’t have any clue, Of why my friend turned into a stranger out of the blue. I stand smiling at a place he does not notice Watching him enjoy and laugh with others But that smile of mine has its hidden Anguish of separation, that I feel He has forgotten me moving into the new world of his, He has taken away something from me Which gave me utmost comfort and bliss. 12 I see a familiar face Who behaves like a stranger with me, I often ask myself this question these days, Did he ever consider me his companion really?

I just hope that this familiar stranger Once again becomes a close friend of mine. 13 Well, I still await the time For us to have a conversation fine,

Solitude All I am left with me Is the sole feeling of solitude. Having people yet not having them, That silence of loneliness is solitude. This wall of isolation That I am unable to get past through, Has forced me to stand On the droughted land of desolation. The world beyond the barricade Has respect, understanding and gratitude, I wish I could find one like that But all I am surrounded with Is the wall of solitude. I no more share comfort with anyone So anxious and uncomfortable do I feel today That my menage seems to only have familiar faces I know But the people I don’t, We share the same roof but barely any understanding, I think this disturbing muteness is what Is making me stand where I am currently standing. When I step out To be amongst my peers Feeling of alienation takes over again. I see people mingling with each other, Sharing all their moments of joy, 14

But I sit at one corner All by myself, just as a lonely boy. My friends so called don’t act really friendly, Seem to give me cold shoulder all the while, I sit wondering to myself Will anyone notice even, If I move to far away miles? 15

Section III: The Turbulent Waves Of Emotion Certain events leave an impression, where the youth’s mind gets hit by an emotional turbulence. It can either be a relationship one steps into, or difficult situations that one has to deal with grit and composure. This section specifically delves on the sprouting feelings in the teenage and the struggle one faces with oneself in hardships. 16

She Is Surely The One She is surely the one, seeing whom My eyes sparkle with joy She is surely the one Who embodies comfort and kindness, Whose magical presence always fills me With utmost warmth and happiness. She is surely the one whom I love talking to truly She may not know this but Whenever we don’t talk to each other, I feel as if I have nobody to pour my heart out really. She is surely the one Who is really special for me, Even in a massive crowd She is all that my eyes can see. It is truly commendable how She always reads my mind, She is surely the most understanding person I can ever find. I love talking to her That is all I can say I fall short of words to express How sad I feel sometimes When we don’t converse Even for a day. 17

My Innocent Love I wonder when the flowers of love Blossomed in my heart, I wonder when her charm Cast a spell on me, Such that my eyes crave to see her these days, They don’t find anything interesting anymore Than just adoring her in an admirable gaze. I however feel shy Whenever we see each other, My mind says “Hold back” Though my core Questions my mind “But why?” Sometimes, the hesitation in its uneasy muteness Conveys a strange discomfort of hers, I wonder thinking why, At times she doesn’t look At me for even once, Instead, just goes on and passes by. The sonnet is etched in my heart and memory, At times I feel even the eye of heaven Fails to match her beauty and glory. Her presence is all I need, Looking at her my eyes stay still while steps take the lead, Gazing at her face rich with sweetness It doesn't seem to be less than a God's feed. 18

Conundrum The enigmatic situation I am in now, Only confuses me to think How I am able to feel two emotions together Both contradicting the other kind, What else do I call this Other than a conundrum in my mind? The blazing fury is what I feel, She has only seen through me This is not really like her, But the coldness is all With what I have had to deal. She shows up just like a blue moon But somehow, no matter how angry I am, I always keep hoping to have a conversation soon. “Do I or do I not talk?” The question always troubles my mind, I am so confused feeling these emotions together Both contradicting the other kind. Temptation I feel for an instant, Trying to talk yet again But as I go, the head just turns around I keep wondering in an irritated mood, Is the person the best I’ve found? 19

Something attracts yet pushes me away, I wonder whether we’ll be together in the longer run. 20 She calls me a good friend, But certainly doesn’t have fun ,

Epistemology Of Failure Life is an interesting affair, Where the almighty sends together Failure and success in a pair. The former tastes bitter, while latter tastes sweet, I wonder why we beings Expect to taste success always And get disheartened over one bitter defeat. Failure does not demean Your potential and the efforts you put in, If success is what you think You would always achieve, Wake up to reality, Life is not as ideal as what you perceive. Failures are hurtful Surely tough to face, But it is an unavoidable phase Which willingly or unwillingly Everyone has to embrace. Epistemology of failure is the art Of acceptance and recovery From the debacle you may face, Dip moments just come and go How many times will you lament on your woes ? Have an iron will and just go with the flow. 21

The Innocence I know an year old baby Who only knows how to smile ear to ear Face always lit with playfulness Translates love and innocence sheer. The eyes seem to sparkle with joy forever Doesn’t let the world bother him ever. Only the fond faces and cuddles is he familiar with, Nothing else seem to have him shed a tear Than to not see his loved ones near. A few years later down the line The baby has grown a bit Yet has some innocence still, Free of the complex emotions Only showcases love and devotion. As some more time flew by, The boy completely changed in demeanour, I don’t know why. The innocence is masked upon by anger and stress He feels troubled in the quagmire of the emotional mess. The boy who always had a spirit free and high I often wonder to myself taking a sigh, When did the innocent one bid me goodbye. 22

Section IV: Finding The Ground In the last leg of teenage, adolescents begin their trail to comprehend others’ perspectives. The late teenage is an important phase where youth start finding their ground and maturity sprouts. The last section reflects upon real-life challenges, philosophy and the transition journey from a youngster to a thoughtful adult. 23

Dealing With Destiny The paramount creator of the universe As some people say, Perhaps incarnates intelligence To live what is underlined in one’s destiny or fate per say. How can one claim that one is predestined for a journey and does not write his own, One cannot figure that out even with a cornerstone. The cornerstone embarks the beginning of that journey Whose direction is in our control. The outcomes that our actions bear Or the way we face a situation, Is exactly what can put us in a snare. Majority of the people may simply blame their fate, However a chunk would surely learn and make a comeback great. No mortal knows what turn their life will take, Don’t fret and sometimes just leave Time with decisions to make. Although some things only the time can mend, Just make a conscious effort, Under the light of destiny and time, Don’t just pretend. 24

Grit and perseverance determine Your character to deal with the challenges On the path that would take you to the throne. 25 Sometimes destiny is inevitable, Sometimes one tweaks his own Life is full of challenges perhaps,

Life Is A Bicycle Ride Life is a bicycle ride Where the road of challenges is laid long and wide. The bicycle of life stands on the wheels of grit and knowledge When you fall and then rise on your feet again, It reflects your mettle to face the challenge That from facing, others might have refrained. You may fall a few times Facing the challenges coming your way But one little scratch is not the end, That is what you must comprehend. There is a long way ahead Where you might come across obstacles Along with the difficulties they pose, What matters here is your spirit And your iron will to deal with those. There will be times When the breeze of happiness tickles your face, To lighten your mood and bring a wide smile on your face. But there would even be times, when the road becomes very slippery, Don’t fear to move ahead, thinking you would stumble Be confident in your wheels, For any such challenges, the wheels are there to deal. 26

The journey is of your own, They can only show you the way It is on you how you ride on the path that is shown. There is a road of challenges laid long and wide On which everyone travels Life is just like an exciting bicycle ride. 27 People can only guide you

Self-Worth There are millions whom you meet in a crew Some do good while still bad are few, It’s in your control what to take and what to not People make shallow judgements Which are never really worth a thought. The bitterness eventually those bunch of people bring Surely hurts and makes you think upon hard On who really are you, But those scornful gestures and perceptions are just a reflection of their own, They are surely not the reason for you to mourn. Some relations you find close Turn out to be relations just for name sake, What hurts you the most is The wrong character sketch that the close ones make. People and their perspectives on the face of the Earth Don’t determine your true character The almighty has blessed you with by birth. Opinions and notions may change or stay the same Why to demean ourselves and lament, Let us look forward to succeed in the future with a fresh mindframe. 28

Sprouting Maturity This semester, as I visited home from university, I was embraced with warmth and smiles pretty. Every visage I met, emanated joy and delight, It seemed as if an honorary was the invite. Might not be honorary, but beloved rather, One figure stood firm with all emotions to gather. Living alone for a while, I reflect upon now He firmly steered my ship ever since, Leaving behind the rampant storms in his sea of dismay He silently focused on just clearing any obstacle that would come my way. Seeing the young pretty little face again The same old smile on her fore, Everytime I visit and greet her, I just feel like cherishing that laughter even more . Not long ago I was eager to roam To live and explore far from home, Yet, this homecoming of mine Is gradually resting my mind, And comforting my core. Spending time alone, slipped me in elders’ shoes Having errands to run, managing with outdoor dues. I’ve now come to realize How cumbersome things were, That seeing I just ignored. 29 Now having seen it and explored, I start to see what my eyes never showed.
