A technical specification sheet listing grades of paraffin wax with their physical properties.
This document is a technical data sheet for paraffin wax grades. It is intended for buyers and specifiers in industries such as candle making, paper coating and corrugated box manufacturing.
The first section explains how paraffin waxes are refined from crude oil. It defines three categories: slack wax with 5% to 20% oil, scale wax with 1% to 5% oil, and fully refined wax with less than 0.5% oil.
The main table lists fully refined wax grades from FR50/52 to FR70/72. Each row gives the melting point range in Celsius and Fahrenheit, maximum oil content, Saybolt color number, needle penetration at 25 degrees Celsius, kinematic viscosity at 212 degrees Fahrenheit, ultraviolet absorbance and flash point.
A second table covers scale wax grades from SR50/52 to SR70/72. These grades have a higher maximum oil content of 1.5% and a lower minimum Saybolt color of 20. All other test methods are the same as for the fully refined grades.
All test methods are identified by ASTM standards: D87 for melting point, D721 for oil content, D156 for color, D1321 for penetration, D445 for viscosity and D92 for flash point. Ultraviolet absorbance follows 21CFR172.886(b).
