With a stronger organizational foundation and the addition of our third full-time team member, we were able to partner more intentionally with individuals, companies, and organizations. These collaborations have become increasingly diverse, each bringing a unique and meaningful impact to children of different ages and needs. Working alongside inspiring role models and partners, who offer fresh perspectives, new ideas, and motivations, has been deeply encouraging not only for the children we support, but also for Mirai no Mori as an organization. Our commitment to collaboration is not only about forming new partnerships with like-minded people, but also about strengthening those with communities already connected with us. This year, we deepened our relationships with care homes, explored new ways to engage graduates in meaningful projects, and empowered camp volunteers to grow into new roles and responsibilities. And internally, Mirai no Mori’s growing team worked to build the organizational capacity needed to maintain this progress. Together, we launched the Care Home Liaison Project to better meet the needs of the care homes we serve and we updated our Safeguarding Policy to ensure we are aligned with global best practices. With this momentum and the strength of our ever-growing community, the Mirai no Mori team is ready to embrace another year filled with new projects, new possibilities, and new dreams. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and look forward to building an even brighter future together. Message from Mirai no Mori Mirai no Mori 2025 Annual Report: 児童養護施設の子どもたち • CHILDREN WE SUPPORT 2 0 2 6 年 に 日 本 で 導 入 さ れ る D B S (Disclosure and Barring Service) 制度に合わせ、セーフガーディン グ・ポリシーを改定しました。 Revised our Safeguarding Policy, aligned with Japan’s implementation of DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) in 2026. Children living in care homes have limited opportunities for experiential learning due to the restrictions in the current child welfare system. Through Mirai no Mori programs, the children encounter new ideas and values and are exposed to a unique environment where they can think and act on their own. Program activities naturally teach them about leadership, teamwork, and communication. And through new challenges and minor mishaps, they begin to learn and gain new skills. Recognizing that children have different needs as they age, our curriculum supports each stage: elementary and middle school campers, high school participants in the Leader in Training (LIT) program, and graduates who have aged out of the care system. Together, these programs create a developing pathway of growth into healthy and successful adulthood. Children can continue their learning based on their experiences in the previous programs. In 2025, collaboration with care workers reached new depths through the launch of the Care Home Liaison Project, led by our new project manager, a former care worker with 20 years of experience in the sector. This initiative was created to build stronger, more personal connections with care homes by understanding their specific needs, and how Mirai no Mori can best support both the children and their care workers who play a key role in supporting their transition to independence. As a part of this project, we hosted in-person, pre-camp information sessions at each of the nine participating care homes, offering practical guidance on what to expect, how to prepare, and how to support children during the program. These sessions strengthened trust and communication, ensuring that care workers could join the camp with more confidence and enthusiasm. CAR E WO R K ER S Our monthly Back to Nature programs provide consistent touchpoints throughout the year with campers, helping them to gradually develop resilience and confidence, among other life skills. These one-day weekend programs are also a space where care workers can step away from their demanding daily routines and experience the same learning opportunities that the children do. Recognizing the essential role care workers play in the children’s growth, we intentionally design these programs to include them as active participants. Care workers are encouraged to enjoy the activities for themselves, re-energize, and see the children in a different light, beyond their daily responsibilities. Our aim is to create shared experiences that strengthen the relationship between care workers and children, helping them return to their care homes with renewed motivation and a deeper understanding of each child’s potential. LI T PAR T I C I PAN T S CAR E H O M E S9 Even we care workers, who see the children daily, were moved to witness growth that only Mirai no Mori staff could draw out and acknowledge so carefully. 16 By welcoming a Mirai no Mori graduate as an intern, Walk Japan wanted to provide the younger generation with an opportunity to experience an actual workplace and confirm their own interests and strengths. We believe the value lies in gaining an understanding of concrete workflows and a sense of responsibility that cannot be gained through academic studies alone. The unique perspective of a Mirai no Mori graduate also brought new insights to our work, making it a mutually beneficial experience for both parties Mirai no Mori collaborates with companies to support older youth as they prepare for independence by creating opportunities to step into real-world professional environments.
