High above the sleeping world lived a little star named Lumi. Lumi loved to shine. She loved the moon, the clouds, and the tiny lights of houses far below.
But when the sun disappeared and the sky became dark... Lumi would hide. “What if the dark is too big?” she wondered.
“What if something is hiding inside it?” “What if I can't find my way home?” “I’m scared,” Lumi whispered.
The Moon gently called to her. “Lumi, come out. You don't have to stop being scared before you become brave.”
Lumi took a tiny breath. Then she slowly floated out from behind the cloud.
The darkness still felt enormous. Then Lumi noticed a little boy sitting beside his bedroom window. He was afraid of the dark, too.
Lumi gathered her courage. She shone a little brighter. The boy looked up... and smiled.
Lumi thought for a moment. Maybe her light didn't need to chase the darkness away. Maybe... she could simply shine inside it.
So Lumi traveled farther. And she discovered something wonderful. The night wasn't empty at all.
She saw the ocean reflecting the Moon. She heard the quiet sounds of the sleeping world. There were so many beautiful things in the night.
Lumi still felt a little afraid. But now... she kept going.
“I can be scared,” Lumi whispered, “and still shine.” That night, Lumi didn't hide behind a cloud. She became one of the brightest little stars in the sky.
And whenever a child looked up at the night and felt afraid... Lumi would twinkle a little brighter. Just enough to remind them: You don't have to be fearless to be brave.
Lumi smiled. The night was no longer something to hide from. It was something beautiful to discover. Goodnight, little one. Keep shining.
