Mindset for IELTS Foundation is an official Cambridge English course for students at A2 level who are thinking about taking the IELTS test. It is designed for up to 90 hours of classroom use and aims to improve general English while introducing elements of assessment useful for the IELTS test and English language assessment in general.
The course is organised into ten topic-based units covering daily life, house and home, hobbies and leisure, travel and holidays, food, transport and places in town, jobs and study, health and medicine, language, and science and technology. Each unit lists clear outcomes, such as using the present simple, reading multiple texts, writing about a daily routine, and speaking about your day.
Skills are integrated within each unit. Reading skills support writing tasks, and listening skills support speaking activities. The Foundation level helps students build confidence on familiar topics, get used to the types of questions on the IELTS test, and develop strategies for listening and reading, including guessing meaning from context.
The course includes online skills modules for listening and speaking, reading and writing, a language builder, and grammar and vocabulary practice. There are also customised online modules for specific first-language groups and an academic study skills module. Students get access to authentic IELTS Academic practice tests online.
The Teacher's Book offers step-by-step guidance on activities, extension exercises for more practice, alternative activities to tailor lessons, and definitions of key concepts. Tip boxes, bullet boxes, and mini tips help improve task awareness and language skills throughout the course.
