The Collaborative consists of fifteen nationally recognized and respected partner organizations dedicated to educating about the genocides that have occurred since the Holocaust. The partnership with the Collaborative and the associated professional learning will focus primarily on the Ten Stages of Genocide, including classification, propaganda, dehumanization, othering, and extermination. There will be five in-person sessions, each centered on two stages of genocide. These sessions will provide historical and contemporary examples, along with opportunities for participants to explore how an informed and civically engaged citizenry can help prevent future atrocities. The sessions will be hosted at local museums and cultural centers, allowing us to thoughtfully leverage county resources and community partnerships. In addition to the in-person sessions, there will be four virtual case study sessions focused on specific genocides.Series DescriptionThe first will examine the Holocaust, and the second will focus on the Armenian Genocide. While the remaining topics have not yet been finalized, our intention is to ensure that the histories and lived experiences represented within Los Angeles County are meaningfully reflected. Potential case studies may include the Cambodian, Rwandan, Guatemalan, or Greek genocides. Our goal in this work is not to elevate one tragedy above another, but rather to emphasize the shared human experience and the universal lessons that can help prevent genocide in the future.Holocaust Museum of LA
